The difference is apparent and shown through their animations, such as movements, expressions, and speed. The way I see it, Aether’s the gentler, older twin with the wholesome personality and then there’s the cute-looking, younger twin Lumine who’s actually a lot more sassier than what her initial appearance tells you.

@@kevinmendoza1830 I mean if they weren’t separated and trapped in tayvat they could try to learn about the unknown god and how to leave but the sibling separation just add more to the story and gets you attached to the characters and the story would be a bit calmer if they weren’t separated (with the chance of the abyss order moving slower or never becoming a thing)

Lumine: left handed, uses 1Hand for Anemo elemental skills, uses 1Foot for Geo ele-skill, faster sword attacks, more expression with her eyes being bigger
Aether: right handed, uses 2Hands/seems to be struggling for Anemo ele-skill, uses Hand for Geo ele-skill, climb&run faster

I’m pretty sure lumine might be ambidextrous, because while her elemental attacks use her left arm, she uses her right for physical.
this is a super late answer but if you look closely aether isn't actually struggling more than lumine when using anemo. It's just that according to the stance they use, lumine uses her legs to support herself while aether just uses mostly arm strength. Also if you look closely aether isn't actually holding his other arm he just keeps it close.

I regretted picking Lumine at first but as I begun playing more and more, I started liking her and I'm glad I picked her! I really like her voice and expressions she makes in the story so even if she technically isn't the canon heroin, she makes an awesome protagonist!

Aether is faster when sprint jumping, idk why but characters that has the same height as him and are male like chongyun, xingqiu, venti, razor, albedo, and xiao seem to sprint faster. Same goes for tall male characters.

Yeah height actually affects the gameplay if you haven't noticed. A big example of this is the smaller characters like klee being able to completely dodge some attacks with their height.

I love how much effort mihoyo put into making each character distinct with their attack animations. Aether is energetic and powerful while Lumine is patient and controlled.

I chose Lumine because I'm a girl and I want more female MCs in games. Getting sick of the guy being the MC majority of the time.
@@Mikura39 I chose him primarily because his gold/black design is great, but that's just me. Others probably think the same, it's all preference.
Mostly because of two reasons:
1) The game has much more female characters than male ones, which leads people to choose Aether so they can build a harem
2) Aether is the chosen twin by Mihoyo for official merchandising and media, leading people to believe he is the canon MC (even though Mihoyo themselves stated there is no canon MC and they only chose Aether out of convenience)
He looks cooler while lumine looks bland.

elemental skill: teleport behind the enemy and deal a massive AoE dmg that will dealt light damage, if it's crit enemies get additional 50% light damage based on traveler crit dmg. cooldown: 5 sec
( hold ): traveler AoE dmg will dealt 20% more light damage cooldown: 7 sec
elemental burst: traveler switch into divine mode, it will give traveler: crit dmg +50%, crit rate +30%, infuse sword with light ( light damage increased 20/30/40% if your crit dmg is more than 160/200/240% ), convert atk into light damage this effect will ended after 12 sec ( except light infuse ), the divine mode will ended if Traveler got hit ( it means the effect you got after using burst only last for 12 sec but you still on divine mode till you got hit ) cooldown: 8 sec
passive ( ascension 1 ): after using elemental skill, the AoE dmg will summon reincarnation soul, if traveler got hit, it will dealt small AoE dmg to enemies surrounding by 20% of traveler light dmg.
passive ( ascension 3): traveler 5 basic attack will dealt light dmg.
constellation:
1. if traveler get wet effect, stamina consumption -30%
2. if crit active, get 1% hp
3. elemental skill talent level +3
4. 50% reset elemental skill/elemental burst after using elemental skill/elemental burst.
5. elemental burst talent level +3
6. from now you can stack your burst. if you already on divine mode, you can active elemental burst after that all your stat given by divine mode increase by 20/30/40% and the duration of the effect reset to 0 and increased the duration time by 14/15/16 you can stack the burst 1 time every 15 sec, you only can stack the burst until 3 times ( you will lost all your stack after get hit ).

Listen, dude, believe what you want because Genshin Impact still got a long road ahead before we get to fully understand the situation between the two siblings. For now just enjoy the game as it is.

Aether looks so confused all the time and I'm so glad I have him. I picked Lumine on my alt account, and I like her, I just need to spend more time with her. It's crazy how different they feel despite having almost the same personality.

Aether comes across as the one who wants to always do the right thing so when he's the abyss sibling it makes him almost seem confused and lost. When Lumine is the abyss sibling she comes across as cold and calculated which is why I feel she fits the abyss sibling role more. Even hoyoverse agrees because they use Aether most of the time as the protagonist.
Since Oppa is how you address an older male (by a few years) or your older brother in Korean, this kinda confirms who the older twin is. Unless the Korean team was just screwing around on that scene, of course.
All the three Asian languages have indicated that the boy is the older sibling.
I mean, they're twins so I highly doubt one's older than the other by a few years. A few minutes though? Yeah sure.
One thing I find interesting is that even though Aether’s stance is more rooted when using anemo, he’s blown back more at the final burst.

There was another video that explained while Aether has longer reach, Lumine has the speed. She finishes her combo faster than Aether. Hence why his attacks look stronger.

Aether shows more emotion, whilst lumine shows softer emotions, but still, she's the best fit for the antagonist. we love hot ladies as antagonists.
Lumine is definitely on the cute side, not hot, that's what makes her a good antagonist too, because from her appearance it's unexpected, but I also feel like aether would be good because of his color scheme and he gives off protective brother vibes.

Out of context but i personally really like the silent mcs, when they talked when the qixing asked them what they would want. When they spoke it felt as if im not controlling them anymore from that point and it gave me chills. It was such an awesome moment 😳

I think it’s more about stereotypes that girls have to be graceful and elegant and boys have to be strong and powerful. It’s pretty common in japanese media, not sure about China.
It's because Lumine is actually the stronger of the two (indicated by her higher charged attacks scaling) while Aether is the faster of the two with more health and DEF.

Mihoyo really should add an option to switch between these two characters. I’ve known other games with similar styles to do it that sort of thing, and since the story of Genshin impact is almost exactly the same, no matter which character you pick, I don’t see why it should be hard to make them interchangeable.
Hell, I would pay a few bucks if they would let me switch characters without re-rolling my whole damn game.
No one wants to wipe their account and start from scratch, just for the sake of having a different protagonist, especially after so many players have invested hours and hours and not to mention (for some) *money* into growing their teams and progressing through the campaign.
I just think it’s a shame that this isn’t already a feature.
Tho canonically, Aether's the main character that ended up in Teyvat to find his sister (even the official trailers confirmed it). But yeah I agree. The closest we can get is with co-op but you have to have someone with the opposite twin with you.
