I had a couple A-10s use me as practice one early morning out on my local lake. I was the only boat out on the lake when they did a fly by. Next thing I knew for about the next 15-20 mins they were making passes at me from all different angles. The last passes they made I was standing up on my kayak waving them on hyped as hell. Both after doing their last pass gave me a wing tip, was super cool!

The other day i saw 2 F16 dogfighting over the fjord where i live in Denmark, i have never seen or heard anything like this in my whole life, it was fantastic....it was probably a Danish pilot training with a Ukrainian pilot, as they are getting the majority of our F16 fleet as we are transitioning to F35

I used to live at Hill AFB in Utah in '81-'83. I would ride my bike around the base and ride really close to the south end of the flight line where the jets take off. That's where the F-105's would pass maybe 200-300 feet above me. Beautiful site but it was the loudest sound ever!
Been living here since 00... and the F35 demo squadron is now based out of Hill. Can hear them practicing out over the west desert northern range all the time. The AF had to put out a statement and practice schedule because the sonic booms were freaking people out. Lol. The F35 has a really unique sound to its engine. A mixture of turbine whine and the roar of exhaust gasses. Had them fly over a bunch. Always amazing. I'm not sure you can get out to the runway end like you did any more. But the do have the public air show every other year now which is a great way to get out on the tarmac and experience the planes up close. Got to stand next to a Raptor and a Nighthawk a couple years ago. Absolute engineering masterpieces blending form and function. @GridIndustries It's a hard to beat location for scenery. Those mountains are pretty iconic. Gotta be super pretty in a glass canopy flying over.

I was at a air show at Lemore NAS. All the shows ended and people started packing up. All of a sudden f35 buzzed the crowd flying over and banked to the right so you could see the bottom of the aircraft horizontally. You could feel it in your chest. I'll never forget that. I just wished I had my camera going.
Was at an airshow and hit the porta John before the Thunderbirds started their display. Damn thing pulled a sneak pass literally over me. Rattled the hell out of the Porta potty. Scared the literal crap out of me. Was awesome.

I was in the military as an electronics technician, and I know how to fly an airplane and I understand what is happening. The USA military is a joke. F-35's are horribly slow. They max out at Mach 1.5. You needed to see an F-15 Eagle do an afterburner climb in the old days. They held the record for 2 decades as the only plane that could accelerate to Mach while in a vertical climb.
Oh I don't know... the sound of a Vulcan bomber's 4 Rolls Royce Bristol Olympus engines delivering 13500 lbs of thrust standing on its tail at full throttle over the playing fields in Lincoln when I was a boy was a pretty shattering and awesome.

The only way to see that in most cases is at the air show in southern California that is out in the desert (Edward's?). They just brought it back last year and I went, I had no idea how loud the sonic boom could be even though it was at altitude! Wayyyyy louder than any subsonic jet can create with afterburner

No. A high speed pass can be as low as Mach 0.9. It's around the highest they can do without blowing out windows from a supersonic shockwave. Had you gone to any military airshows, you would hear the commentators refer to a high speed pass being performed and for it to be just under Mach 1.
When I watched the Blue Angels the restaurant I worked at was about a quarter mile from the runway and a crowd of people gathered in the parking lot to watch. One came over so fast and low it was like an explosion it was literally a flash, and the plane was gone like it disappeared. People started taking their kids to their cars. I heard some windows were cracked. You don't know what a real jump scare is until you experience that. I think it's the equivalent of a minor heart attack.
@4eightyvolt If I'm not mistaken 2 booms 1 plane. One from the front and rear of the plane. It happens quickly so at lower altitudes, it seems like only one because it takes less time for the sound to reach you. The distance plays a role too.
You can’t tell the speed of an aircraft purely from sound unless it goes above Mach 1 lmfao, which its not allowed to do anyway because it’s flying over land and over civilian areas

After a few generations of aircrafts they realized that most of supersonic aircrafts never use that feature, because the missiles are a lot faster and its useless and they dont use it fighting. That a why speed wasnt a critical feature. Electronic Warefare, advanced missiles, advanced radar, stealth capability and other stuff were first than speed.
I live in Wisconsin. There is a base near by. I see the F-35's about 4 times a week doing training runs. This last summer I watched them over my house doing some crazy maneuvers. Some have complained, mainly those in the big city. I live in the country where it's trees and wildlife. I love seeing them.
I saw something over Newport Beach moved twice as fast as this plane. It was a shape of a jet but it went from 100 ft to over 30000 ft where it passed over a jet and then shot past the horizon over my back with all in less than 15 seconds.
It’s insane how fucking loud those after burners are in person. I live by a base and every once in awhile I’ll feel and hear them as they go straight up into the sky. It’s amazing.
The sound def dosent do this justice either, there was an F22 Raptor taking off from our small airport in salisbury, md i just landed in my little Cessna and if felt like the ground was shaking, and it was at the other end of the runway 😂

They're incredibly loud. Recently I was at a funeral, and 3 F35's passed overhead - the service / eulogy had to be stopped, and it took quite a while before people could make themselves heard again. F16's really are much quieter.
When I was in the Army (Air Defense) we were out practicing with training tubes they had an A-10 Thunder Bolt/ Wart Hog same thing. Fly over it was not at all this loud that far away I remember we heard it and then it was passing us. One reason that they call it a tank killer is you can't hear the warthog till it is hitting the target usually and it flies under Radar easily. A corsair was there also a huge difference in sounds. Warthogs are sneaky.
Have lived in Lincolnshire for 10yrs. First time l heard a sonic boom from 2 fighter jets on routine practice was absolutely amazing....and scary! Find their regular practice flights very reassuring tho. But the very first one we both heard was whilst out for a walk through Elveden Forest on a holiday at Center Parcs. Swear we nearly $h!t ourselves!! 😱

Have lived in Lincolnshire for 10yrs. First time l heard a sonic boom from 2 fighter jets on routine practice was absolutely amazing....and scary!
Find their regular practice flights very reassuring tho.
But the very first one we both heard was whilst out for a walk through Elveden Forest on a holiday at Center Parcs. Swear we nearly $h!t ourselves!! 😱
