Good video Peter. This video showcases a lot of Waltham cross as you have TfL, non TfL, arriva herts and Essex and even London at the same place that you cannot get more arriva than that. What do you think of Go ahead on the 217? I personally think it’s ok as I rode it last Wednesday this time as I went to Waltham cross. 242 is being withdrawn by Metroline which is a huge shame on them! But at least UNO got it which means a full service between Potters bar and Waltham cross will be reinstated which is very good how it will serve Potters bar and Waltham cross fully as it is very BS how 242 doesn’t reach Potters bar on every trip and only goes 2 trips a day (4 on school days) so I shall hope UNO will do better on the 242. Good video nonetheless Peter and Waltham cross is great for buses
Good video Peter, good to see a variety of routes at Waltham Cross including the new operator for the 217 route. Heard that 242 bus route is going to UNO, surprising but let’s see what’s yet to come lol.
Yes, I read about that. I'd expect the service to still run operated by someone else (Probably Central Connect) as there is no direct bus to the Brookfield Centre
Intalink (Hertfordshire's travel information authority) announced Uno is taking the 242 over on Monday to Saturday, with the full route getting an hourly service. This is much better overall but is a lower frequency in Cheshunt. I just hope Uno has improved by a lot, they were really rubbish when I used them a few years ago so hopefully they hired many new staff. They must've given they run several TFL routes, like the 298 now.
@@BristolRE I hope so, I was so put off Uno routes for a long time from before. I never bothered with them since. Well you'll get some nice variety in your videos at Waltham Cross. I've traveled all over the country on the trains this year and no one else has that combination of pink and purple. Not even the open top buses in Skegness. Uno livery is very unique. At least when this change comes It'll be a lot easier to try the 610 and X10 routes, been meaning to for a while.
You may have to cap your video to 30fps in the top left corner to stop the flickering, although I think that would then cause flickering on the newer TFL blinds that run at 60fps
So you said you've been a bus enthusiast since you were 13 and now, you're in your 60s; how were buses like back when you were a teen? I'm 18 years old, I have no clue how they were like
They were much better in terms of engine sounds, a more basic interior but much more comfortable in my opinion. Generally fast as well, once they had built up speed. For some perfect engine sounds, fast forward 6-8 minutes for the bus to get going, then watch this with your volume turned up! th-cam.com/video/ICoeKNm6fdQ/w-d-xo.html
I wonder why some electric blinds flicker and others don't with a phone camera? I like taking pictures of buses and the electric blinds are a nuisance. Seems to be easier to get a picture when the blind is white for some reason but it's not consistent at all. It don't like the orange at all!
In most cases a slower shutter speed, ie below 1/150 will stop the flickering. Drawback to that is if the bus is moving you may get motion blur, so you need to photo them on bus stops etc

Thank You. There was so much more variety though in Potters Bar 12 or so years ago
@ truth potters bar was a lot better in those days
4:33 what a nice driver, even alerting the passenger to say hello as well as that 242 driver, nice glimpse of that ex-80 optare esteem at 7:18
Yes indeed
That nice driver was driving my fav bus

Thanks, and yes, UNO is confirmed and a new hourly service all the way through to Potters Bar again
''Such a shame how the blinds flicker... when you're trying to video.''
Truer words have never been said
👍👍
Thanks Peter, good video...
Thanks
I’ve been to Waltham cross
Nice

It has been announced that Metroline are withdrawing the 242 from 04/01/2025.
I am not sure if a replacement operator is being sourced.

I gather London Buses are not keen on LED Blinds?
They are now being used on all new buses in London, but very unreliable, showing often with parts of the wording or route number missing.

30fps doesn't play back smoothly. It's actually the shutter speed that causes it, on a normal camera usually need lower than 1/150

At Potters Bar, the 134 and 231 have evening drivers. I'd probably go for the 231 if I worked there.
Nice video Peter
Thanks
@BristolRE your welcome Peter
