I went to the Dominicans once and I asked for rollers and they told me rollers weren’t meant for nappy hair and I tried to explain to them that it would stretch my hair and avoid the high heat from the blow dryer but they were persistent that my hair would not come out correctly with a roller set. This is why I’m in cosmetology school so I can open up a hair shop for natural girls so we don’t have to go through these things
Casual I'm sorry you had to go through that. I honestly would have gotten up and left with a wet head. Lol. But I know how awkward and difficult it can be to say something in the moment. I never went to salons religiously just occasionally. I hate doing my hair. Even washing it is a chore but let me tell you once I took control and started doing it myself it's never been healthier. I do wish I could find a good stylist that I could trust and that actually listens and cares about hair health and growth. It's frustrating and time consuming because you have to literally interview them.
Yes ma'am! I got my hair braided a few weeks ago and my mom's stylist was so rough combing my hair out. I know my hair will be much thinner. She also popped a lot of hairs off when braiding my hair. That's the exact reason I've only been to a stylist 3 times in the last 7 years!

I get tired of doing my own hair and there are times when I would like to let someone else do it, but they either don't listen, suggest a relaxer, do everything to tight or ignore my pain etc. I shouldn't leave a salon with less hair due to roughness or damage.

HairByPierre She actually is in Atlanta! I traveled there for the World Natural Hair Show and had to go see her while I was in town. And the only thing she put in my hair was water and heat protectant so the shine comes from my hair being healthy and me using the rollers to stretch my hair. Stretching with indirect heat allows my hair cuticles to lay flat and reflect more light, while using a blow dryer raises my cuticles - making my hair frizzy and dull.

This woman is amazing! She uses the same techinque they use in my country (Dominican republic) they do roller set and then they blow dry it straight or just use the flat iron, when i used to get roller set done my hair was lo ger and healthier because once you do the rollers you dont have to pass the flat iron many time to make it straight, one pass is enough so the hair don't get that much heat damage that way

This woman is amazing! She uses the same techinque they use in my country (Dominican republic) they do roller set and then they blow dry it straight or just use the flat iron, when i used to get roller set done my hair was lo ger and healthier because once you do the rollers you dont have to pass the flat iron many time to make it straight, one pass is enough so the hair don't get that much heat damage that way

Very nice video. I like the care Eden had with your hair. My fav part is the slight bump she put in your hair near the root with the flat iron. That small detail really makes the difference in volume with you finished hair style.

I love those rollers. When my hair was relaxed I use to go without a relaxer for 3 months. It straighten the roots really good.
Your stylist is Ethiopian isn't she? I can tell my people from miles away, plus her name is a common name in Ethiopia. She did wonderful. Ethiopians seriously know how to do hair, i'm not kidding. Michelle Obama's hair stylist was Ethiopian. No wonder her hair was always beautiful!
