I was soldering while working on a drone once when one of the wires released and flung the melted solder into my left eye. It was excruciatingly painful, but felt so much worse when I started flushing it with water. My vision in that eye was blurry and I couldn't tolerate any light for about 2 days (I wore sunglasses while working on my computer in a dark room for those days). Then one morning I woke up, my vision was perfectly fine again and it didn't hurt anymore. The eyes are an amazing organ. Now I wear safety goggles religiously when soldering anything.
Holly “got something in my eye” .. my 8 year old self “yeah ya finger” … 😂😂 your friends advice of just sticking to one place at a time is absolutely spot on, it won’t seem like it but it is the absolute fastest way to wade thru the tedious work
Thanks Holly, I'll catch up on video's as I can. Snoopy went 640 miles in 11 hours coming home from the games! Speedlimit all the way and no complaints. Love to you and Walter . I've had my eye shaved twice in the ER due to fragments.
Glad the eye cleared itself up...but the Mom in me was internally yelling STOP RUBBING IT!! Agree with the eye wash station suggestions. After watching your video about how you film, I am even more impressed with your work in the shop and your vids. Filming takes so much time and planning. Mad props to you. There should be a no working in the shop alone rule just like no wheelin' alone. Oh, never mind, Holly doesn't follow that rule anyway.
Most daunting would be assisting in installing a 14 foot long Channel Master long range TV antenna with a mast and rotator up on top of a 100+ foot tall White Pine after topping it. It was fun getting the mast, rotator and folded antenna up there but then the real fun started when you had to unfold the antenna, attach it to the mast, connect all the leads for the antenna/rotator and then raise it into place so you could clamp it to the tree. Plugged the bottom of the mast to lessen the chance of getting cookie cuttered if it slipped. The antenna itself was only about 10 lbs but add the weight of the rotator motor and steel masts along with all the wires and it became quite a handful especially every time there was even a small breeze/puff of wind. Of course a lightning storm started brewing after we were past the point of no return on what was supposed to be a still and quite day. Best!
To answer your question. My wife has a 21 JLU that we have done most of the add on work to (bumpers, winch, rock sliders, etc). But the most daunting thing so far has been changing the rear-end in my 96 XJ. It was more scary looking than it actually was doing it though. You've been a huge inspiration to both of us Holls. Thank you so much!
It could be that you got whatever it was in your eye out, but the scratch made it keep feeling like something was in there until it healed overnight. That happened to me once.
You might try a glass of water and put the glass up against your eye and roll your eye around then look in the glass to see if you got it out believe I've had plenty of experience experience and if it came out after leaving it probably wasn't steel like a peirce of grind stone
The sanding particulates get everywhere, and no matter how well you protect your eyes, that stuff finds a way. I've used goggles, generic safety glasses, prescription wiley x safety glasses with the foam inserts, face shields, and no matter what, it happens. Get yourself an eye wash station, even just the bottles of wash that you can squirt at they eyes, and that will help immensely.
Was working on a volunteer project recently and another volunteer got trash in his eye. We were in the middle of nowhere. I poked a hole in the cap of a water bottle and used it to flush his eyes by having him look down while I squeezed the water bottle. Worked like a charm.
Hey pro tip: if you ever need a cat scan make them do eye X-ray first to confirm you still don’t have metal shavings in your eye. Otherwise it could be bad
We just got a bunch of abrasive disks, cutoff wheels, flap disks, etc from Benchmark Abrasives. Super happy with them so far and they’re way cheaper than big box stores. The 40 grit flap disk does some work.
Most daunting thing for me was cutting the frame on my TJ to do the safety caps and the regear on my wife's 17 JKU. Now I'm now afraid of gears and I'll cut anything just hand me a plasma torch and point at what you want gone. Lol
I'm just really glad you recovered from the back injury and back up and at it, so inspirational You just never know how much we take our health for granted.
Some time if it feels like you have something in your eye but you can't find it it may be that it's already out but may have scratched the inside of your eyelid or the eye it's self so it still feels like there is something there. Best of luck to you Holly take care of yourself. Be safe and healthy.
I wonder if you can actually get that broken red fuel line clip from jeep , or are they gonna make you get the whole fuel line , because that little red clip is unavailable by itself , jeep seems to like to do that these days..
You're problem is those traditional grinding disc's, you need to get ya some REX-CUT Sigma Green 4.5" grinding wheels. They cut fast and are way better than any disc I've ever used over the years. Grinding sucks, but it sucks less with the right tool. Finish it up with a quality flap disc and I think you'll find yourself not dreading "grinding" as much.
crazy cool gas tank removal tool clever, very clever. i did a full engine swap one-time mid-winter under a open carport as in it was a roof on 6 legs took 5 days in the -15 f COLD, WITH WINDS BLOWING AT 20 MPH burr. normal time for me to do this was 2 days and a few last bits of wiring to install about 2 hours on day 3
I also dislike grinding. But I found that if you need to do it a grinder with thinner body feels more secure, specially with smaller hands. Metabo makes a nice one for an example.
I LOVE a right angle grinder!!!!!! Taking stuff off is a "grind" and just needs to get done. Rear brakes on my 1978 Chevy Monza back 26 years ago when I was 18. First try was a FAIL in the driveway, second try was SUCCESS.
Heater cores are what I hated the most when I was working as an automotive tech. The only thing that bothered me with gas tanks is the dirt on top as your dropping them and the gas smell that doesn’t wash off easily.
Eye wash station maybe?? But you can flush it by holding your eye open with one hand and taking a water bottle holding it close and squeezing it forcing the water up and out with some force. might take a few times, but, it's worked for me.
Hello, the Pretty Lady of the TH-camworld, big hug to ya working hard 💪, thanks for the share awesome to see the progress, slow an steady Does it right. You got my vote on onX 🤘
I hate those little plastic clips on various tubing lines. My last two cars have had them and I have had to deal with a few of them. They are easy to break, and never as easy as you see on TH-cam.
Get some fast cut wheels. More money but worth it. You will probably have to go to an industrial supply as I don’t think Harbor freight carry them. Edit: if you learn to gouge with the plasma torch you will end up grinding less.
I'm wrong every day, but if you try to get a little closer with the plasma it seems like you would save on quality time with the grinder/flapper wheel.
Last time I pulled the gas tank out of a Jeep, I cut an access hole in the floor so I could remove and replace the fuel pump without dropping the tank. Good thing too, the new factory OEM pump failed after 200 miles out in the middle of know where Montana.
I’m sure I’ll get lots of pushback but who cares. Put your angle grinder shield back on. Then you can grab the grinder closer to the head. This will give you more control. Also, wear a full face shield when grinding and especially when using the death wheel (cutoff disk). One day, you will thank me.
The shield should be on, but I find it way to difficult to use it with it on and I actually wear my ESAB Sentinel A60 welding hood (on grind mode with glasses on as well underneath the hood) while using the cutoff disc and sometimes when using the flap disc.
Hollie, please put the guard back on that grinder. Yes it can get in the way but you’re a smart lass and can work around that. Rather that then hurt yourself badly. The injuries I’ve seen in 38 years as a machinist would turn your hair white. Be safe please
Yes indeed! I've learned to use it and it can save your knuckles plus helps divert the sparks away from you when used correctly. One thing to note that many ignore is to wear a dust mask when grinding and cutting with and angle or even a bench grinder since the wheels as the wear down will also throw silica dust into the air which if you breath it in will eventually give you Silicosis which is a form of Pulmonary Fibrosis. It incurable and can only be pacified and if exposure is continued will cause death. I was there when a dear friend finally got to the point his living will was enacted and they had to pull the plug. He had gotten to the point that an Oxygen Bottle or Concentrator was no longer sufficient so he was living in a semi-conscious state hooked to a Lung Machine. Don't take my word for it and check out what the American Lung Association has to say about this: www.lung.org/lung-health-diseases/lung-disease-lookup/silicosis Besides a mask there are clean air systems that will put positive pressure inside you face shield to keep you from becoming heat prostrated and the dust from getting inside. My Father as an engineer for a rubber and tubing manufacturer had designed some of those clean air systems using medical grade tubing and pumps about 50 years ago for use in machine shops, foundries and by Hellcat Oil Rig Fire Fighters along with the pressurized air cooled fire suits. We like Holly and wouldn't wish this even on our worst enemy. Walter would be devastated to have to face the tough decision my best friends wife had to. Best!
you need to quit messing with those little grinders ,you need to get a good 7 inch corded grinder with a good grinding disk not any thin cut off disk ,when you get something in your eyes you need to get it out right away cause your eyes heal fast and metal will rust in your eye as it heals over the metal ,the only time you need flap disk is to smooth things out after you have used the Grinder to get the work done, keep up the good work love the channel 👍
I have a corded 7” grinder, but it’s something silly like 15 amps and I’m not comfortable using it yet. You are absolutely right though, that thing would tear through this work! 😀🤘🏻
@MischiefMakerTV whenever you pick up a grinder make sure you have a good hold of it and have a good footing and be ready for the way the grinder works 💪 you can do it just don't be afraid, make sure you know where your sparks are going as you work 😉
Honestly it was a little later in life but doin my first lift and crossover steering myself. A supposed 4-6 hour job took me 4 days. But i conquered it.
Good news. I’ve never actually (even once) used the grinder with a cutting off wheel without using my entire welding hood (it has a grind mode, gloves and my welding jacket. Not only that, I wear safety glasses underneath the hood. I don’t use the hood when I’m running a flap disc, just safety goggles, gloves and welding jacket. Seems pretty safe IMO and I’ve had them come apart several times and it’s been pretty uneventful because of the gear I wear.
On hold til September(ish). That’s a personal project. The giveaway Jeep and the Liberty are work projects that have deadlines 😁. I could work on it here and there, but Walter and I enjoy working on that one together.
I don’t mind inviting friends to help install things (and I have), but I wouldn’t ask them to come do the boring stuff like grinding and cutting. Once all this prep work is done you’ll start to see others involved & I’m actually filming with a friend in about 4 hours for the next episode 😁

Flap disc is much nicer to use in an angle grinder than a grind/cut wheel. 80-120 grit is good for everything!
It could be that you got whatever it was in your eye out, but the scratch made it keep feeling like something was in there until it healed overnight. That happened to me once.

Eye wash is needed both in the shop and in the kit on all the rigs.
Best!
My most daunting task was my first Spanish S tile roof full lift and relay 2000 Sq feet. Wife and I worked alone. Came out great
does your plasma cutter have gouge setting with it you can scarf the weld, a good coarse sanding disc will make grinding faster and cleaner
Was working on a volunteer project recently and another volunteer got trash in his eye. We were in the middle of nowhere. I poked a hole in the cap of a water bottle and used it to flush his eyes by having him look down while I squeezed the water bottle. Worked like a charm.
Go to Harbor Freight and get an eyewash station. Absolute necessity in a shop. Especially when grinding!
Meeeeee !!!! I enjoy cutting and cleaning off axle mounts .
Get some flapper disks makes grinding down metal quicker
Hello from New Mexico 👋👋👋
Hey pro tip: if you ever need a cat scan make them do eye X-ray first to confirm you still don’t have metal shavings in your eye. Otherwise it could be bad
Most daunting project on my Jeep was replacing the clutch on my TJ single handed without a lift.

Well done, Hollz! I love seeing your son and you go for a walk! Love that Fergus Boy! Give him a cuddle for me pls!! Thanks!
Put the handle in you grinder so you can hold onto it!
Hardest thing I had to do the first time was replace one of the turbos on a ford 3.5v EcoBoost engine in my F150. Took for ever.
I Really Appreciate your Caution on the Side of Safety

😂😂😂
Looking good…. Get an eye was station!
Try screwing in the handle on the grinder so you can use two hands with leverage. Reminder: guard is needed to avoid cuts and scraps.
Don't wait to long. I had a process of metal get in my eye and I had to go to the eye doctor and have ît scratched out with a needle .
Good morning to you and Fergus. Have an amazing day. 😊😊😊😊😊
Doing great job, I usually use a pair of welding gloves to cover lines when I'm grinding or cutting near them. Keep up the good videos.
It’s very tedious work but remember, 1 thing at a time 😊
Break-it Billy does enjoy all of the cutting and grinding. Not sure why but for some reason I do!!!! Miss you.
Fine job Hollie, can't wait to see it done. Thanks for the video
You did a good job 👍😎
I just adore Holly, such an inspiration, I had to share this channel with my daughter.

Get some fast cut wheels. More money but worth it. You will probably have to go to an industrial supply as I don’t think Harbor freight carry them.

You need a grinder with a 6 inch wheel. It’ll make it so much easier.!!
zee medical makes a wonderful eye tool that has a nylon loop on one end and a very strong magnet on the other I have been carrying one for years.
I'm wrong every day, but if you try to get a little closer with the plasma it seems like you would save on quality time with the grinder/flapper wheel.
Absolutely getting better at using the plasma each time. Also the frame for the JL is so much thinner than MM so making sure I don’t cut into that
Awesome work!!
Complete Rebuild of a turbo 400 trans for the first time OMG nerve racking.
👍
I made a signstand to put in a roundabout or whas it a crossroad i Donald quait remember but itt tack a long time!

Love watching your posts and videos my friend it’s awesome
@@MischiefMakerTV you are too kind. I figure the more I learn, the more I can help when people are in need

One of the scariest things I've done was starting a TH-cam channel
Dropping a gearbox must be up there
Never rub the that you have something in
If you’re not using grinding disc, you should. Can’t tell in the video. Flap discs aren’t meant for heavy grinding. Fine tune with the flap disc.
Can someone tell me which part of Scotland Holly is from please
You need an eye watch station in the shop.
Get yourself a reperator so your not breathing all that grinding dust. Also why not not do a less involded build?
You should be wearing a face shield. If that disc comes apart you will panic when you see the blood.
Good news. I’ve never actually (even once) used the grinder with a cutting off wheel without using my entire welding hood (it has a grind mode, gloves and my welding jacket. Don't you have an eye wash station in your shop! Safety should be the first thing!!
Gears / transmissions I’m Dyslectic sooo I question everything
Actually I enjoy grinding and polishing metal
What happened to the Scottish hammer build
On hold til September(ish). That’s a personal project. The giveaway Jeep and the Liberty are work projects that have deadlines 😁.
I could work on it here and there, but Walter and I enjoy working on that one together.
