I strongly advice you to enter the Rabbit Hole of Ayreon. Arjen Lucassen is a master composer, if not THE master composer of prog rock. Next to that he is a sincerely nice guy that is a joy to work with. He composes this epic music for 30 years now and literally about the whole world top of singers and musicians want to be a part of his projects. The beauty of this all: They sincerely love to cooperate in these projects together on a base of mutual respect. No ego's involved. It's a happy reunion. They are having a blast. Can you imagine what that does to the audience? I know, I was there at this concert in the audience, together with more than 60 nationalities from the world over. People fly from Australia and South America to the Netherlands just to see these concerts. And for good reasons. It is a life changing experience. You must be fast because Arjens concerts are sold out in five minutes. For starters, check out this whole concert. It is guaranteed to blow you away.
I was at that concert last year. I traveled 6,000 miles all the way from Brazil just to be there. It was well worth it. Ayreon very rarely plays live, a few concerts every 2-4 years, always in Tilburg, NL. A new concert is expected in 2025 and Arjen says he already has all the songs and singers confirmed. It takes a lot to organize those concerts. Most Ayreon albums were never meant to be played live. Dozens of singers on each album, crazy riffs and solos. What Arjen does to make that happen is amazing. I'll surely go back to Tilburg in 2025!
Ayreon is one of the music project of Arjen Lucassen. The studio version of this song has James Labrie from Dream Theater at the beginning and Floor Jansen from Nightwish at the end. In this first version alive is Irene Jansen (Floor's sister) and Marcela Bovio at the end. This show belongs to 5 shows that Ayreon did in a weekend of September 2023 in Tilburg, The Nederlands. Many people around the world were there, even me from Chile. Amazing show!
The venue in Tilburg, where this concert houses, can hold about 3K. Not more to make shure everyone can enjoy to participate. Tickets for, at first, 3 shows in September 2023 came on sale in November 2022 and were sold out within 5 minutes. Two more shows were announced and sold out in 3 minutes each. Tickets did 70 euros. For the musicians it has really become an honor to be invited. It is a sort of Ayreon family they participate in. All have their own bands they play or sing in, Ayreon is a kind of coming together and enjoy all that talent around you. Budget is not a problem.
First of all, welcome to the Ayreon rabbit hole. Ayreon is a musical project of Arjen Anthony Lucassen, a Dutch multi instrumentalist that creats metal operas (on the prog side). He writes all the concepts, at least the 95% of lyrics and at least the 95% of music and then he invites several singers and musicians to record his opera. What you saw in the video was the last encore of the concert "Live Beneath the Waves" of September the 17th 2023, where Arjen brought live the entire album "01011001" (ASCII code for letter Y). In that concert there were: 16 lead singers (the original album has 17 lead singers) and in the concert there were as many as possible of the original album singers 3 backing vocalists 8 instrumentalists. "The Day that the world breaks down" Is the First track of the album "The Source" and It has 11 main singers. You should check also the video of the studio version, because in the video Arjen himself has written some comments that let the listener being in contact with the creative process of the Mastermind. In the live version there were only 3 of the 11 original singers, so believe me: check the studio version of this Song.
This is prog rock/metal, always changing and you never know what you get..... I was at this concert, and when the first few notes of this song were being played you could hear some jaws drop to the floor because no one expected this song to be played, being from a totally different album. An almost completely different line up of singers compared to the stutio version, and they all did a great job. Arjen writes almost eclusively concept albums, so every album tells a story, hence that many vocalists as each of them represents a different character. With only a few exceptions the storylines of the albums are connected, creating the Ayreon Universe.
Of the 11 original main singers on this song, only 3 are featured here (Simone Simons, Hansi Kürsch, and Michael Mills). And really, the only one I think was a bad choice was Daniel Gildenlöw. Mind you, I love his band, Pain of Salvation. I just don't think he's a good replacement for Tommy Karevik of Kamelot.
Haven't heard much of Pain of Salvation yet. I really like his voice, but it seems like it's more geared towards for something a little less opera. Fit better on The Sixth Extinction, to me.
Arjen Anthony Lucassen is a master, and with hes Ayreon projects, he bring something to the table, no one else does.. people often say yes to work with Arjen, because they repect him, and think the projects are unique to..
Haha Ayreon is amazing I was at that concert! Also did that back up vocalist seem familiar to you? The 2 Ayreon Angels are Marcela Bovio and Irene Jansen yes the sister of Floor Jansen. You two seemed impressed by the first vocalist that was my absolute favourite singer Damian Wilson, he sang in a lot of bands Threshold, Landmarq, Arena, Headspace, Star One and the list goes on. I recommend That's Why We Came by Threshold, And The Druids Turned To Stone by Ayreon, River Of Time live beneath the waves (this concert) by Ayreon and lastly Twisted Coil - Electric Castle live and other tales (Twisted Coil is from the other tales segment) by Ayreon. Also I got to recommend Mike Mills and his band Toehider check out How Much For That Dragon's Tooth by Toehider, he was the guy singing in binary. The binary spells out trust Th1, TH-1 is his character from The Source and it is a robot as you might have guessed. Normally people go for the album version haha, but oh am I glad to see this concert again. Truly the best concert I went to because I entered as someone that likes the music and left as a true fan and it introduced me to so many amazing bands, I went to see Damian Wilson's solo show because of Ayreon which made me a true fan of Damian. He is such a nice guy it is difficult not to like him, he went outside and said hi to people waiting in the queue for Ayreon. I was able to get a picture with him and have talked many times with him since, not even a month ago I got him to sign my Threshold cd which I picked up because I knew he sang on it.
if it ain't dutch it ain't much... Welcome in the amazing world of Arjen A. Lucassen Aka Ayreon Universe (Ayreon, Ambeon, Star One, Supersonic Revolution, Plan Nine, Guilt Machine, Gentle Storm, Stream of Passion).... Enjoy this 100+ artist thick rabbit hole….!!!!!

The list of singers that you read out for The Day The World Breaks Down is for the studio version. The live version had some different singers as some not available but did have Anneke van Giersbergen, Damian Wilson Brittney Slayes Marcela Bovio to name a few. Worth watching the music video.
Arjen Lucassen is besides a amazing music artist, from guitar player, keys, writer of music, arrangeur etc etc also a down to earth man. He takes time to meet the fans, he post, does youtube interviews. And as you can see, everyone wants to work with him. And the whole organization ...what masters in agenda management to have all those amazing musicians come together
Do yourself a favor amigos, also try the video version, you get most of the singers (several changed with this fantastic live performance (and all did a brilliant job) but you also get the gist of the story and info of Arjen himself during the video. Another ' Star Warsie' fun song is Ayreon's ' Intergalactic Space Crusaders'. with a Belgian singer who has a voice that could crumble mountains. Fantastic lady ! Great reaction lads & cheers from tha Low Countries.
Nearly all singers in this act are lead singers in their own bands. Hansi is indeed from Blind Guardian. Fun fact: the guy on the keys (Joost van den Broek) is the producer of Powerwolf.
If you want a second video from the same concert, try "Fate of Man" ( Qt9A4g2whCo ) Yet another singer (lol), paired up with the two 'backing singers' from this one (also sand the final stanzas.... Marcelo Bovio and Irene Jansen). Talk about a show-stealer/show-stopper/show-ender.
The similarity between "Ayreon" and "Arjen" is, apparently, co-incidental. The hero of the first Ayreon album was going to be called Aries, but than name didn't scan so Arjen extended it to Ayreon.
Great reaction 🤘 You have a new subscriber. You should really check out the studio version where you have comments from AL. And go for some Nightwish to
Hi Six Scars, the first female singer that you heard is Simone Simons, she is the lead singer with Dutch Symphonic Metal band EPICA, absolutely incredible band, check them out, this is from a show last year in Amsterdam: EPICA - Unleashed (Live At The AFAS Live)
Nice reaction. Power metal (Manowar, Helloween, Blind Guardian, Dragon Force, Hammerfall, etc) is typical led by relentless drums and a lack of changing time signatures. Besides some guitar solos, it mainly features a verse-chorus-verse-bridge-chorus structure like pop songs and typically has cheesy fantasy lyrics. While Ayreon is often cheesy, it's generally too complex to be compared to power metal.
