The way she communicated with people and the way she always spoke from her heart is what inspired me most about her, the most important thing is that she was born in 1907 and this The era was when British India officially adopted Indian Standard Time and she was one of the only women who were fighting for the prostitutes. Hats off to her for this, she was truly the Kohinoor of India but sadly we came to know about her very late. Indian Standard Time and she's a woman only who were fighting for prostitutes. If what this lady is saying is true, then why does gangubai's (adopted or not) grand daughter Bharti is saying that she didn't run brothel and also she was not from the kamathipura red light area. We know that she was forced into this thing, as she wanted to be an actor. But, Bharti was saying that this was untrue and she never became a sex worker. Her story of a social worker was indeed true as we've witnessed that in the movie as well. But, Bharti was not accepting the thing of gangubai being a madam of brothel, else the social worker thing was right. We don't know who is saying right, who is saying wrong. But, whether she was a sex worker or not, she did alot of things for her people there and so that's what is commendable. We should respect them irrespective of their occupation.
From what I know she was sold to the brothel at the age of 16 by her husband. So yeah she was trapped and couldn't escape because she ran away with a lower caste man to marry him as her parents wouldn't have approved
Maybe it's hard for the grand daughter to accept some truths That being said, I can't find her authentic story anywhere either I'll guess we won't know for sure.
