Its sad how Gangubai initially wanted to be an actress but was, I assume, forced into becoming a sex worker due to circumstances and now after her death, she has a movie on her life which the privileged upper class ppl profit off of it. On the brighter side tho, to be able to hear her story is great and inspiring.

    • @rridhi8614

Why do you always think it that way abt them earning profit!! They could have made some other story or some other movie to earn profits but they chose to show the Gangubai side world to the world. Tbh before this movie, many of us didn't even know who she was. After the makers made the movie, kam se kam we know the legend now. Don't always blame Bollywood. When it's doing good, appreciate it. Hollywood ko support karte ho har dam but at least when Bollywood is trying to bring a change to it's movies perspective, try to respect it and encourage them, instead of being a Kangana, who is only making comments to make controversies.

@@rridhi8614 thats why i said on the brighter side we heard abt her and got to know her story and rightfully so what she did is commendable and deserves to be known. It's not really black and white, its not abt bollywood is good or bad, right or wrong and I acknowledge that. But also I do think that Gangubai's unfilled dreams and then afterwards a movie being made on her is ironic and deserves to be talked about too.
Also it makes us question right that who knows how many of struggling actress from lower or middle class families were not able to achieve what they wanted and probably were forced into the same as Gangubai.

@@riririri5-jt1 Yeah, they don't look at the good part. India and Bollywood has it's own history. People always are into the western trends and so the Hollywood craze and Bollywood bash. Movies like 3 Idiots, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Wake Up Sid, Tumbaad, Yeh Saali Aashiqui, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, YJHD are all no less than Hollywood( mentioned all genre). If you guys haven't watched any of these, do watch and then judge Bollywood.

If what this lady is saying is true, then why does gangubai's (adopted or not) grand daughter Bharti is saying that she didn't run brothel and also she was not from the kamathipura red light area. We know that she was forced into this thing, as she wanted to be an actor. But, Bharti was saying that this was untrue and she never became a sex worker. Her story of a social worker was indeed true as we've witnessed that in the movie as well. But, Bharti was not accepting the thing of gangubai being a madam of brothel, else the social worker thing was right.
We don't know who is saying right, who is saying wrong. But, whether she was a sex worker or not, she did alot of things for her people there and so that's what is commendable. We should respect them irrespective of their occupation.

well Ali was just doing a movie on the true story it doesn't mean they do a movie based on the story it has to be 100% same they have to change it to look modern as well but I think Alia deserves a hit for that movie im sure lots if research went into the movie itself and she had a really difficult role alias young and I think she did brilliant job to represent that movie im sure the lady herself if she was alive she would have said the same. because on those days u can't compare of today's generation so there will be some difference in the movie. we'll played Alia I luv the movie the direction was spot on the songs were brilliant and the way Ali played her role it was just really nice to see something different. . So nice of you to share daughter of Gangubhi sister I respect you so much how lovely is this lady I don't care they are poor their hearts are rich and I wouldn't swap that for the world. The way she communicated with people and the way she always spoke from her heart is what inspired me most about her, the most important thing is that she was born in 1907 and this The era was when British India officially adopted Indian Standard Time and she was one of the only women who were fighting for the prostitutes. Hats off to her for this, she was truly the Kohinoor of India but sadly we came to know about her very late. Indian Standard Time and she's a woman only who were fighting for prostitutes. I think the greater question raised in the movie and society today is will schools in general help a sex worker’s kid study and people don’t usually do that just because they tend to look away from that part of society. It’s not just “convent” school.

Kalyug is when villains(people who do bad) are more respected, loved more than the heros(those who do good)
Infact you can see that today also, people like villains in movies itself
      Imagine real life
Gangubai did some good and some bad, but everyone in kalyug will do this only.
So let's just focus on positive no bad in that ig.

@@rahulbosebose1 not really, if you hear ramayam itself
Ravan is bad because of his ego
      Even ram respected ravan knowledge
Ravan was killed because he was affected by bad virtues.
And BTW in kalyug people actually praise ravan by saying he do anything for his sister
Without even knowing the real reason he kidnapped her
And the do the exact opposite with the Agni pariksha.
They don't even realize that if people today can speak so ill on sita imagine then
Plus they don't even know what is Agni pariksha why it happend etc.

These people should be given some financial support from the stars who do films on their lives. It's like you use their life stories to make all the money and stardom for yourself. There should be some corporate social responsibility from bollywood as well, like it is expected from the corporations.
