Gangubai's daughter speaks to outlook

Up the flight of stairs in a dingy building in Gully No. 14 in Kamathipura, if you turn to your right, a passageway appears. Under the reddish glow, the bust of Gangubai cast in marble appears. An epitaph is there. Not much. Estd. 1981 by Sasa Ratna alias Aunty Family. It isn’t really a replica of hers if you compare with the photo that hangs in her adopted daughter’s one-room tenement in the twelfth lane.
Babbi is one of the many children Gangubai adopted. Across from Babbi’s room is Gangubai’s former living quarters, which is now a small factory.
Babbi says Gangubai Kathiawadi didn’t represent the real Gangubai.
For instance, there was no Ramnik Lal, she says.
