This was a needed topic that has been mostly neglected. Thank you for the video. I cannot function in the sun very well and need to use sunglasses and hats most days, even when cloudy like you mentioned. You did an excellent job on this topic.
Hey there! Thank you so much for your feedback and I really appreciate your support! Let me know if you have any video thoughts or requests in the future that could benefit our community. I really appreciate you watching and supporting my work! 💜 Blessings.
@@SeeingBlind I thought I would tell you that I purchased both pairs of glasses you recommended in the video description. I used your links. One pair was just under $20.00 and the blue tinted ones were just over $20.00. I just got them today. I love the ones with the blue reflective lenses. They are almost as good as the $90.00 pair I lost two months ago. Great glasses, and for a fraction of the price! Thank you again.
Yay! That has made my evening! I am so glad they are working out for you. Hardly anyone uses my links but I am so thankful that you did. I really appreciate it and thank you for supporting my channel 💜 Blessings
Hi Cindy! Thank you so much for this video! I learned a lot today. I started wearing hats when I was 18 cuz I noticed it was easier to see around me and more comfortable to walk outside with them. Plus I was walking outside a lot more on my own being all growed up and all. You just taught me that it is important to have a dark brim on your hat so the light doesn't get reflected into your eyes. Thank you! And I like what you said about not having to stick with a single style of hat, though I myself do still enjoy wearing baseball caps. Sunglasses are good. I've worn sunglasses off and on. My eyes are a little bit light sensitive but I also wear prescription glasses. So I found that cocoon glasses which go over prescription glasses are really helpful for me. I like what you said about playing around with the different colors and having different colors for different days depending on the light in cloud cover. Also, side note, it was super cool to see you outside with your cane! Cory
Hey Cory! I’m so glad you gained something from the video. Yes, I have heard of those glasses. Do they provide protection on the sides? I personally have never had them so I don’t know much about them. Thank you for sharing that. Oh, yes, I need to do more videos outside with my cane. Thanks for noticing! 💜💜
@@SeeingBlind yes they do protect from sunlight creeping in on the sides or from up top. I've had a couple different pairs and they make a good seal all around your glasses without being tight. Only problem is they can fall off your face if you are doing anything vigorous like running. Still I take them kayaking and cross-country skiing where there's a lot of reflected sunlight from water and snow. They work really great protecting my eyes and still letting me wear my glasses. I would probably wear them more often just walking around but I'm not always sure what to do with them when I'm not wearing them while I'm out.
Very interesting! Do they clip onto your existing prescription sunglasses? Or are they something different? I have also seen the magnetic frames recently where you can switch out different magnetic lenses onto the frames.
@@SeeingBlind I've seen lenses like what you're describing that attach to your prescription glasses. I got my grandma some one time. The Cocoon glasses I'm talking about are just like big sunglasses that fit around prescription glasses. I have relatively small lenses on my glasses so it's easy for me to put those cocoon glasses over my glasses. They just fit on my ears over my glasses. They feel a little more bulky then just one pair of glasses or sunglasses do but they do a really good job blocking out light from all sides I'll still letting me wear my prescription glasses. Next time I get a new pair of glasses, I'm going to get the transition lenses. I had those a couple times and liked them.
Thanks! I have been trying to purchase various shirts to increase blindness awareness and support other content creators. thanks for noticing! Most of us blind/visually impaired don’t or can’t pick up on those details. I need to start providing some audio description though of such details in the future. 😎👍
the description of your t-shirt was read to me thats how i new what it said ,i can only see sadows and i have light perseption and that is all! LOL@@SeeingBlind
Hey Cindy, this was really an informative and interesting video about accessories. Very thorough. I love hats, different styles of hats but I don’t wear them much because my residual vision is so far in my peripheral field that I can only see around the very edges, including the upper field of vision. I noticed that I can see light poles only at the very top while the middle of the pole just doesn’t exist. If I stare straight ahead I can see the weekend newspaper on the green grass but when I look toward it, the paper disappears. It’s just one of those Stargardt‘s magic tricks, lol! This was really so well explained. Taking care of the vision that is left is so very important. Stay safe and take care, love, Beverly
Thank you so much! Yes, I know exactly what you mean about things disappearing. Lol. When my vision got really bad I started becoming extremely sensitive to the sun and this topic became so much more important to me. Thank you so much for watching and supporting my work. Let me know if you ever want to do a blind community chat. 💜
Hi Sindy, Ray here. Still going barefoot even outside? I still do. I still have not returned home yet from hurricane Ida. Much work remains to be done. My hometown was totally destroyed. Anyway, I may be going home soon if the repairs can be done. Well, take care.
Hey there! It’s so good to hear from you! I am so sorry to hear that but I hope repairs can be done and you can return home. Sending you best wishes 40 speedy return home
Yes, as my vision has decreased my light sensitivity has increased. Photophobia is a frustrating thing and if I don’t take care of my eyes, it triggers headaches. Thank you so much for watching and supporting! 💜
I can't see well at all with sunglasses, so I wear photochromic multifocal glasses. And I like to wear a hat when running at night because it helps to block the light from oncoming car lights. Regarding your comment, having a dark brim underneath probably works like American football players who put black lines under their eyes.
Hi, Cindy. I’m visually impaired, but I wear glasses. I’ve been having an increasingly hard time with light sensitivity. What do you recommend for me? If possible, I’d prefer something that I can have on top of my glasses I currently wear
A couple of ideas come to mind. Several of these ideas I talk about in detail in some videos. Number one, see if you can get the glasses you currently wear polarized. Number two wear hat with a darker under brim. This will help reduce light, reflecting down into your eyes. Number three try to always face away from this song and avoid white table cloths.
Awesome as always and thank you.
Awesome topic and content!
For anyone who visits snow for the first time, remember to take sunglasses along.
So true! The snow can really really hurt
