Who says that you cannot smell or taste from watching a video. From both your facial expressions, I came close to tasting the passion fruit drink and that " fishy" papaya salad. The look on Sarah's face struggling to maintain decorum on camera while chewing on the salad was priceless! Sarah, you have a voice acting career ahead of you from your hilarious impression of Seunghyun! Keep doing what you guys are doing! Always look forward to your vlogs!❤

thank you guys for sharing your visit to Laos. I'm Lao/Chinese and i love the country of Laos. i just feel that this landlocked country is overlooked too often times. the country is similar to Thailand but the people made the difference. Lao people are more peaceful n charitable than Thai people. Lao people are extremely kind. i hope you enjoyed your stayed there.

I think the green drink (of the 3 drinks) at 14 minutes is blended Indian pennywort in English. You'll find this green drink in Vietnam too. It's supposed to be healthy. The orange drink is Thai tea which is black tea and sweetened condensed milk. The papaya salad is seasoned with the sauce from fermented fish, very strong odor. If you ordered the Lao version, it has sauce from fermented crabs and the crabs themselves. Very strong odor as well. It's always eaten with vegetables like cabbage or morning glory to tame down the strong flavors and peppers and accompany with sweet rice and meat.

We're from Korea and the USA. It's funny to us that you think most of these foods are commonly available around the US, especially Laos-style papaya salad.. Thai-style is, but not Laos-style. We got a good kick out of that 😂

Foods in Laos are more expensive than Thailand because the country is so poor that’s why.

The fermented fish sauce is use in many Laotian dishes called padek. I love it but it is very pungent and is an acquired taste like durian. You can tell them to make it very little padek or none at all then it would be more to your liking and not so overpowering.
Padaek or padek (Lao: ປາແດກ) is a traditional Lao condiment made from pickled or fermented fish that has been cured. It often contains chunks of fish, and is thicker, as well as more seasoned than fish sauce. The fermentation takes a long time, giving padaek an aroma similar to cheeses like Époisses.[citation needed] Unlike other versions of fish sauce in Southeast Asia, padaek is made from freshwater fish, owing to the landlocked nature of the former kingdom of Lan Xang. Padaek is used in many Lao dishes, most notably tam maak hoong aka papaya salad.

Thank you for the info! We'll have to ask for less padek next time we visit since we really enjoy papaya salad when it's less strong. It's funny you mention durian since we used to dislike it too but now love it, so maybe padek will grow on us too 😊
