    Great vid, really like seeing you point out all the little things, especially the bolts for the engine under cover, and cleaning the mating surface for where the filter gasket rests, for example - things I do, and rarely see other people do. There are "techs," but then there are techs who have an eye for details and are meticulous - not some sloppy people doing the minimum and leaving more damage in their wake. Keep it up!

    Customers MUST always check their oil before leaving any place when getting an oil change. My mother in law (72 years old who lives with us) took her 2017 Escape 2.0 (17,000 miles) to a Ford dealer in Okc for an oil change. I checked the oil when she got home (about 12 miles). It had no oil. None. I called the dealership who didnt believe me. I called Ford customer service who sent a tow truck and hauled it back to the same dealer. Service manager was awsome. Most dealerships have cameras in the bays. Manager called us in his office to review the cameras. Tech did everything right but forgot to check the dipstick when done. They found the oil dispenser registered oil being put in but very little passed through. Maybe a half quart. They were very transparent. They fixed it all and wrote and signed a contract that said any damages to the engine and lubricated components will be completely paid for by the dealership. They also gave her 10 oil change coupons. It's been a year since an no problems. I'm surprised.

    Great video on the oil change procedure done right. Also nice tip on those aero pan fasteners. I ended up having to replace some on a Focus because they were all boogered up. Another thing I like to do is write the date/mileage on the filter.

      I do date tech number and initals because I have to r.o. saved with mileage if I or anyone else needs it in the future

    Great video. I have a 2018 1.5 FWD Escape and I’m a fanatic about doing the maintenance myself. I have 20k miles on it and I’ve changed the oil 7 times already!

    Thanks for the little tips. Some things aren't so obvious when you're working on ramps. One mistake I would avoid in the future is using an air ratchet on the undercover bolts. I stripped a few of mine out doing that. The other thing is the tabs on the undercover which I didn't realize were there. I just had my oil analyzed on my 2018 Escape 2.0 Ecoboost and it showed an excessive amount of fuel at about 4000 miles on Motorcraft synthetic blend 5W30. I switched to full synthetic and will do another analysis at the next 4000 miles.

      @@FordBossMe Right after I bought it Ford switched to the 2nd gen 2.0 ecoboost which concerned me thinking it had tons of issues, but it has been flawless.

    Send one of these 5k mile oil changes in for oil inspection. You‘d be surprised how much life is left in that oil. With full synthetic you can go 8k miles no problem

      @@FordBossMe i run 5 k oil changes in my 2.0 fusion.. and i fill or get at least 3/4 full of oil in the filter before i install it... always a good idea.. if you can do it.., this way the engine wont have to run for those few seconds while the filter gets filled.. no fuel smell..( oh yes..i work on classic Italian cars.. so i know what am posting about) not some /off' the street guy..i know what fuel in the oil smells like.. a row of 6 idf carbs on a colombo v12... carbs never run perfectly.. and those pistons and rings on classic cars../

    Nice job sir. You do good work, I agree on the oil change interval with the boosted engines.I’m on my second 3.5 ecoboost f150 , I’ve had zero issues but I run a motorcraft filter and change the oil every 3000-4000 miles . Did the first oil change on both at around 1500 miles/50 engine hours.I have no cam phaser issues ,just a great running Gen2 ecoboost

    I used to work at a Ford dealer as a lube tech and I memorized the oil capacities for every model. The 2.3L is by far the most confusing with 4 or 5 different oil capacities for the different models its in. And those skid shields are a pain! Some guys leave them hanging by a corner and tear the edges off and then people ram those screws into the red fittings and it just doesn't work. I found that T30's fit better into the hardware as well. Love this content. Wish I could still be working there I miss it a lot.

      @@FordBossMe Had troubles getting along with my manager. After working there for a year I asked to take advantage of their paid schooling so that I could become certified and work as an apprentice underneath a main line technician. He didn't seem to want me to leave quick service because I was the best guy they had and the only one who stayed longer than 6 months. So I told him if I can't take this schooling thay you offered when when I got this job, I'd at least like my yearly raise. So it took them 3 more months to raise me up to 15 an hour after I kept asking every paycheck, why hasn't my pay changed blah blah blah. So another 3 months go by and they start hiring more absolute nut jobs that don't care about their job or the quality of they're work and I went to complain. Told them I'm having trouble working with these guys. They don't work, they sit around all day and they've had at least 1 comeback every day and I've only had 2 after a year and 6 months. They told me they'll work on it and fix all the issues going on. Soon after they began cutting my hours, so I started to lose a lot of motivation and decided I wouldn't work as hard anymore. Started showing up late, leaving early, long lunches. They asked me what was going on and I told them if they don't want to pay me what I'm worth, I'm not going to work as if I'm worth that much. Then one week I came in 5 minutes late as usual and they fired me. Told me it wasn't working out. Now I'm at a Nissan dealer which I genuinely have no passion for. So I'm currently just making a paycheck and trying to find a good opportunity in the diesel industry because there's shops around town that are hiring all they can for as much as 20 an hour starting. I loved working on the bigger trucks at Ford, so I'm excited to see what fun the even bigger fish have to offer!

    For a vehicle that's not yours you made it seem like it was but I'll never use a gasoline rated 5w-30 on an Ecoboost or any turbo engine. Turbo engines really need better air filters to decrease contamination into the crankcase and a better oil filters to filter more crap out. Motorcraft filters aren't great, they were known for tearing a few years ago by I'm sure it got fixed. In our 3.5 Ecoboost we're running a fram ultra, rotella t6 and a Purolator air filter. Oil is so clean and isn't trashed at 6k. Diesel conventionals are sometimes more robust than ful syn gas oils. The only way I could have confidence in these going to 300k without smoking or having the turbos fail before 150k. All the gritty contaminants just scuff the contact points and increase wear. These ecoboosts can last but they need stellar maintenance. If it's getting dumped before 100k then I'd run cheap crap on it but it's going for the long haul and we do everything since we want it done right because guys like you hardly exist even at dealer. Great to see you're doing things right but I agree they're rushed to get more done than incentivised to do a proper job.

    This illustrates the reason I hate that so many car makers are switching to turbo engines. They're too expensive for commercial use. I drive 1k miles a week and can't afford to be changing my oil on a monthly basis. Right now I do it every 10k with full synthetic on my non-turbo cars and they've had zero issues.

    Looks like it has a timing cover leak. The part of the belly pan under that part of the motor looks dark and oil stained. I have a Focus ST with the same motor, and same leak my local dealer insisted was the turn oil return line crush washers. Anyway, great videos, and you are making me rethink my oil change intervals.

    Ive been doing all my own maintenance for years on my cars, but for a short while I had Ford doing my 2016 Focus ST oil changes since it was brand new. About 2018 I bought an aftermarket oil cooler and ran a larger filter (FL400-S has .25qt more than the stock one), and started using Mobil1 full synthetic. So instead of 5.7qts total, i run almost 6.7qts due to the cooler/filter. One thing I do that i didnt see here, is i pre-fill the oil filter about half way with oil. I heard this helps with avoiding any potential dry start so oil is already in the filter. From a Ford tech perspective, is this not necessary?

    I have a 2016 ford fusion awd and I use ford full synthetic and change it every 2000 for pre maintenance. And the rest of my fluids every 10,000. I also pre fill my oil filters as well to help it.

    You do the same thing I do. Clean the seal mating surface with 360. If not man those filters are known to leak. Great video 🤘

    My ‘17 Escape Titanium 2.0 had been serviced exclusively at the Ford dealer up until this month. I did my first ‘home’ oil change on it last week and found several of those T27 bolts were missing as well as all the 7 mil bolts in the side covers were missing. I’m not impressed with the quality of the work the dealer did and called it ‘The works’.

    If I put in 5.7 quarts in my 2017 Escape 2.0--the oil level isnt at the top of the hatched area on the dip stick. 6.0 quarts will reach the top of the hatched area of the dipstick. Where is the oil level on the dipstick when you install 5.7 quarts in the shop? And I use a very small amount of silicone adhesive on the threads when installing the fasteners of the underside shield--to prevent them from backing out and getting lost--because they are low torque fasteners. Nice to see the pride you have in your work. I enjoy your videos. I wish all techs would pay attention to details as you do.

      @@FordBossMeShould I continue to put 6.0 quart in it? I am using an aftermarket oil filter--a Mobil 1 EP oil filter. And there may be a difference of the amount of oil that it may hold compared to the Ford OEM oil filter. Off topic--I have a 2017 Escape with the 2.0--33k miles--and the coolant level has dropped 2/16 of an inch in 4k miles and over two year period of time . Blackstone oil test shows no coolant in the oil. Should I be concerned? The engine doesn't use a drop of oil over 5k miles.

    on my fusion 2.0,, the lower cloth fiber sheild was going bad..so i cleaned it really well.. go some cheapo car wax.. layed a lot down on the inside ( engine side ) then put 2 layers of fiberglass cloth on it and 1 10 oz fiberglass matt.. let it cure ( cloth- matt- cloth ) drilled out the mounting oem holes onto the new fiberglass sheild.. bolted( screwed ) it back on.. should last a very long time

    People do 5,000 mile oil change cuz that's the manufacturer's recommended interval or that's when the cars computer tells you when to change it. Turbos would be harder on oil because they use the engine oil to to lubricate and cool the turbo as well

      Ford says 10,000 miles on this 2.0 Ecoboost and their oil monitoring system is based off that.

I've seen it in my GM say that 10,000 mi for normal driving and for extreme 5000 but I also read the oil monitoring system takes engine temperature RPMs and some other factors in my engine oil life monitor always tells me to change the oil between 4:00 and 5,000 mi so it's not based off straight mileage. They use your operating parameters like heat and RPM like I mentioned

    I really appreciate the information on the oil change intervals. I have a 2018 Escape that doesn't get driven very much (only 16,000 miles on it), so I'm more curious about the time between changes and how it affects the oil's performance.
    Also, if you get bored and want to come over, I've got the blend door actuator out of my 2015 Taurus but haven't put the new one in yet. I'll wait if you want to come do it for me and shoot a video. I'll watch and make timely comments about how smart you are and how the way you do it is way better than how I was going to. ;)
    I was going to take a nap before work tonight but it looks like I'll be binge-watching your videos instead. I like the "no BS" approach. Just straight education.

    Great tip on removing the varnish. IRL, how many regular oil changes do you do, it would be great if you instructed the oil change Krewe at your shop how to do that.

    After you drain the oil on a 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder is there any problem with getting the fresh oil to the turbo bearing. What I mean is on older engines you could pull the wire off the coil and turn the engine over till the filter was full. Now people fill the oil filter as much as they can. Before they start the engine after the oil change. But what about the turbo bearing starving for oil till the oil reaches it. After changing the oil. Is this a concern or a none issue with these EcoBoost engines? Shawn.

      I mean instant oil pressure is going to get oil there but that's why I always recommend people do flood mode

    Wow - excellent video. Amazing level of care - sometimes dealerships get a bad rap. I have a 2015 Escape 2.0 Ecoboost AWD and do DIY maintenance. My OCI is 3k miles with full synthetic. I learned a lot, the frame tabs for the underbody cover and starting in flood mode. Thank you! I also change the PDU oil every 20k miles. Any tips on changing the oil in the RDU?

    I know that these are direct injection engines so a cleaner won’t touch the valves but is there any benefit of putting something like Techron in the tank? My 2018 escape had 65k miles and I’ve never put anything in it. I heard it might be worth doing once a year for the high pressure pump since i don’t have top tier gas around where I live. If there’s no major benefit I’ll skip. Thanks in advance.

    I always try to wipe the surface clean for a good oil filter seal. Seen some oil residue cover the oil filter and the filter is tight.

    Great Video! Love how you show how to do the service reset for the oil light. Old trick for oil filters to reduce the mess, poke a hole in the bottom and let it drain first. Little car filters like that aren't too bad, but i'm used to the big commercial truck ones which can keep anywhere from half a gallon to a full gallon of oil per filter in there. Helps reduce the mess :)

    Was is your opinion on priming the filter? I noticed you didn't prime it. Since the filter is hanging completely straight seems logical to prime it. Some techs don't prime it though.

      If you're running it on the expressway everyday 5000 miles Max really I like to see them done by three to four thousand miles because of the turbo

    Holy crap I thought that was my car until i saw the non-Motorcraft filter on it. I thought I was doing good at 5k mile intervals mostly highway, at 85k miles is it better to let it ride, or start shortening intervals or use synthetic? Same exact car as that one and that 2.0 is a great engine!

    Alright the 2.0 ecoboost maverick. What is your honest opinion. We have 2017 Jeep Renegade. I keep up on all the maintenance intervals. We have almost 70K on the Jeep with no maintenance issues. If we got one of the 2.0’s I’m hearing the turbos can’t even make it 70K? What are your thoughts?

      I use Clear flood mode to crank it and pull the oil up through the oil pump and fill the filter that's why I demonstrated that here so it's not started dry at high RPM

      You are absolutely right you should because I'm the one that pulls these engines apart to see what's going on inside they don't
      Remember you have a choice to make in life you can either be respectful to people and build relationships and maybe have them in your corner if you ever needed something from them or you could step up their plate and be a sour person and ruin relationships
      You should really work on your communication skills and ask more questions before saying ignorant things

    How common is it for the vacuum pump to leak oil on the 2.0? I have one in the shop right now with an insane leak, I'm talking clean the oil off fire it up and after 15 seconds you can see a steady stream of oil coming out

      I would say over the last couple years I've probably done by her six of them but when I do them I do the valve cover gasket the vacuum pump gasket

    Real question is how do you too off the coolant with the reservoir cap under the cowl?

      You use a transmission funnel long thin funnel and then they actually make one that's curved that goes into those coolant reservoir as well

      You should not have to top off your coolant. If you are losing coolant, it is either leaking somewhere or is he there being burned in the combustion chamber from a perished head gasket

      The same exact way if it's a key you just have to use the gas not the brake

      If it's a push button start you after use the brake and the gas and then hit hit the push button and then let go of the gas after a few seconds of cranking

      Yes the only thing that you don't need to do is hit the brake just the gas pedal and turn the key for a few seconds before you release the gas pedal

    A motorcraft filter can not be beat for the money! If it fits a vehicle I own it ships. There are technically better filters but I'll take a motorcraft every 5k on my 2.5 and 3k on turbo ford/mazda engines over a mobil 1 or amsoil for 10k. K&N's are nice for flow but you lose some filtering ability.

    Fusion's, escape's focus's have the most annoying skid plates ever the screws dont get tight then guests return saying its the techs fault.

      Early on Ford had a problem with the screws actually backing out and then people over torquing them stripping them out whatever you will but it was definitely a problem very bad design

      @@FordBossMe Dont you hate the new F-150 plastic drainplug trucks? Got those carpet splash guards underneath, then the oil filter drain that pools up oil instead of draining it all down. :D I like your oil prime trick you did on this vehicle. Very handy!

Then the other thing I think is stupid is on the newer ford trucks they put the transmission dipstick down on the trans pan with a little metal bolt on top. How an older person would get down there to check their trans I have no idea. lol.. Heck I would have a hard time and Im not even old. :D

      The new 2020 5.0 has the same issue as soon as you pull the plastic plug it gushes out and gets all over the sway bar link and the oil cooler

      If you have a long pair of pliers, or something similar, hold the drain plug half way in place while the oil drains. This will stop it from gushing out and splashing all over everything. The ones where the sway bar isn't in the way, I use a long trim tool. Just remember to leave yourself an escape route in case you mess up. Not worth getting burned over.

    I despise when someone over tightens a oil filter and drain plug. Over a 500000 miles driven and a hand tight filter will not come off.

    What are you talking about dude? 3k miles on a full synthetic 5w-30? Man, if what you're saying is valid on Fords, then those engines are seriously bad bro. We do 7,5-8k miles on a full synthetic 5w-30, 5w-40 turbocharged vw/audi/porsche/seat/scoda engines all the time. Gas, diesel and some factory lpg. Engines are running strong well over 300,000kms for some. We don't see that old most of the time, but we do see over 200,000kms for sure. Especially diesels. I don't understand how a modern engine, designed to run on full synthetic, high quality oil can require 3k mile oil change intervals. Please fill me in.

      I don't agree with what people are being told and I don't agree with what people are doing especially at the dealership level going longer on oil change intervals because they're only reason they tell that to customers is because they want them to feel like they have to maintenance the vehicle less and they are basically enticing them to buy the product but the intervals are not accurate

      @@FordBossMe I'm not sure how it works at ford dealerships. I can only speak from the point of a vag specialized repair facility technician. People come to us and say they were told they can go for 30,000kms which is 19,000miles oil change intervals. Obviously we educate them that their cars are not driven hwy only and cruising at 2000rpm for 13hrs at a time each time the engine is started. However 6.5-7.5k miles is a pretty decent and healthy interval on full synthetic, high quality oil. Unless you guys use conventional oil which should never be placed in a modern engine past year 2000 anyways.

      You didn't watch the video all the way through because I showed you what I did in place of priming it a flood moded it so the cranking RPM would pull oil into the filter please watch the video all the way through before leaving comments

    We're on 12500 mile services on that engine in the uk. Not had many issues except blatant abuse or poor history.

      Yeah that recommendation is horrendous but if it's working for you to do it I would never recommend somebody go over 5,000 miles
