    IT'S A THING (the bed thing). My husband can put my baby to sleep easy. I think it's because they're so emotionally attached to their mamas that it's overstimulating and can't fully relax.

      @pandorahalfdanarson5171 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I think it's more because kids know how to push boundaries and do it in order to test the parents and see if they actually mean what they say. Since men are usually more assertive, they are also perceived more credible--even by little kids..

      I don't think it's always the case, for our twins it's when we are together that they're overstimulated, either of us is fine, our kids have always been great sleepers though.

    C’mon guys, WHERE are the accolades for Erik’s bedtime parenting? He deserves a HUGE attaboy! This mom of twins knows that delicate struggle (even without the I-respond-to-all-bedtime-requests-to-cuddle). Carrot Stocklin stepped up to the plate and hit it out of the park! Keep in’ it simple. Way to go, SuperDad!! Car-rot! Car-rot! Ca-rrot! 🥕

    Hey Colleen! Micro-preemie and NICU momma here. Something I learned early on was that because my children were born so early and in the NICU for 4 months, I would do anything to appease them once they got home. That included being at their beck and call at all times. However, by doing that I “trained” them to know that whenever they cried or fussed, I went running. One time I complained about my lack of sleep to a doctor friend of mine and she scolded me for doing what I was doing. She said it actually does them more harm than good. Meaning, they need a good nights sleep, as do we, but if we run every time they call, they will just be up all night trying to get our attention. It’s a hard cycle to break, I know, but if the twins do better with Eric then let Eric do it for a while to see if that cycle can be broken. Flynn may love it. Oh and by the way, I was told by my NICU physician that preemies can be horrible sleepers. I can attest that mine were for sure! Good luck momma! ❤

    It sounds like Eric should put all the kids to sleep and bedtime will be done in 10 minutes. Give mommy kisses and then he takes them to bed. He will probably also stop the waking up all night once they realize mommy isn’t coming to play with them and he makes them go back to sleep.

      i legit just googled this before reading your comment because I was like... how is there so much glass there? hahaha I've gone to beaches all my life and I have found exactly 1 piece of sea glass in 26 years

    • @kamisa7362

      Likely from old shipwrecks, trash on the beaches, tsunamis and hurricanes washing things out, etc.

    • @maddyson4992
      @maddyson4992 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was thinking the same! I’ve found barely any in the UK, maybe I’ve been looking at the wrong beaches

    • @shadowkissed2370
      @shadowkissed2370 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      People don't care where they throw their trash. When I was around 6 I went to the creak with my family and my little brother and I saw a dead fish floating in the water and ran and didn't see the glass in the water that I stepped on. It was the whole bottom of a 40oz beer bottle and it went deep into my foot. I needed like 80-90 stitches, I still have the scar.

    As a mom, I can relate....the kids always went to bed better for daddy. I don't know what the science is behind it. But it is frustrating but great at the same time lol. My husband gets upset that our daughter talks more to me about stuff, and I get upset that my son talks to him more. So idk....it's just one of those weird parenting things lol

    ITS A THING! I have vivid memories of screaming and crying for hours for mommy at least until 3 am no stop (I was pissed and determined) 😂 it was so bad that my dad put my mom's bathrobe on a towel on his head and a pillow in front of his face and came in to try and sooth me. It didn't trick me and I got even angrier and louder they stuck it out and I eventually passed out at like 5am. In my defense I hate sleeping alone and still do at 31 😂

    Tortilla Talk Question: I’ve asked this question several times. Please answer if you can.
    What is your favorite crystal/rock you’ve found? What is your least favorite? What’s a crystal you are wanting that you don’t have yet? What’s your overall favorite crystal?
    My favorites are labradorite, rainbow moonstone, opals, and Larimar, but I love them all! I have a large crystal collection and one of my absolute favorite pieces is my pink calcite that I got at a gem show. It glows red under UV light. I especially love the crystals that change color and glow under a UV light. I’m really drawn to calcites and fluorites for some reason.

    Ok from one mom to another sometimes kiddo put down is hard but my husband is a first responder and when our kids went to sleep it was me getting them down but I’m the believer of pacifier or blanket, quiet classical music and the strong mommy technique of “ lay down and go to sleep”. By that I mean I let them cry it out girl. But all moms are different so you do you. It does get easier. Enjoy this time. Hi Colleen. My mom passed away Sunday 3/3. One of her favorite places is Presque Isle on Lake Erie, so my siblings and I took a drive up there yesterday to pay tribute to her. I walked along the beach trying to find sea glass which she always found there, but I once again couldn’t. But the beach has a ton of rocks, that I usually would’ve just ignored but your excitement over rocks and all that made me look at them differently. I found a handful of cool ones. I don’t have a tumbler and likely won’t get one but they’re still cool keepsakes anyway. So thank you. ❤

    1 - can you show us your tumbler set up? I feel like its the one part of your rock process we haven't seen! how many do you have? do you label them? where are they tumblin' all day??
    2 - for your rock table, you should put in clear acrylic desk organizers so you can display the rocks in a more dispersed way. They come in all different sizes so it would look so great for the different categories you have!

I have all the secret cuddles that make her really tired and we don’t get to climb around or be silly. Daddy not so much 😂

    "-weird hunks in it." It's limestone trapped in molten quartz; from a volcanic eruption long ago. The original was most likely a large bolder before the ocean, and time wore it down.

    The bed time thing is true, but sometimes it’s reversed. My husband seems like big grumpy dad, but he’s really a softie and he puts up with the kid’s shenanigans and feels bad when they cry or whimper or whatever, not saying I don’t, but for their benefit and ours they need to sleep and have a good schedule. So if I tell them to go to sleep they just know that I mean it, but if their dad says it they know sometimes he’ll allow them to push back some. I also have 4 boys and they're spread out over 10 years and now my youngest is turning 15. thankfully (in some ways) he would leave for work at 2am so between 6-8 he was in bed so they learned that they couldn't wake him up.

    LOL you are so much fun the twins are afraid they will miss something fun! Awesomeness that dad can get kids to go to bed and sleep! Eric is fun but not as outrageously stimulating as you Coleen!
    I laughed out loud to her the little rooster wake up daddy story! ❤❤❤❤

    Bedtime was always when my kids wanted to tell me about their day. I would ask when they came out of school how their day had been and they would just shrug and say it was boring, but man at bedtime it would all come spilling out 😅. My husband would often shout up,the stairs “that’s enough now!” or I would have been up there all night. They are 17 and 15 now and they still do this. My opinion is if they want to talk I am going to listen because one day something really important will come out.

    TTQ: How has your dermatillomania been since you've been back online, and how was it when you weren't posting? I struggle with anxiety and depression and appreciate when you're open about what you go through too. So happy you're posting again, Colleen.

    8:20 this is exactly why my husband does bedtime. The baby goes down first, and I cuddle the toddler in the meantime. As soon as Papa’s got the first one to sleep, it’s the others turn.

    I used to love searching for sea glass when I lived in an area for it and when the edges were still rough I would throw it back into the water so it could “cook” longer. 😂

    Tortilla Talk Question: Are you planning anything for international women's day to celebrate yourself or the other strong women in your life? Have you started talking to your kids about how strong and resilient women are and how there are so many ways to be strong? Being a woman and a feminist feels like an uphill battle in today's political climate, and just in general, and I just wonder how you go about teaching your kids that women are incredible.

    You guys drawing on the fog of the glass reminded me of this trick I used to do. Make a fist and use the pinky side of the fist to “stamp” into the fog. Then use a finger to add 5 dots (toes) at the top of the stamp. Voila! A baby foot!! 🥰

    I think I found an agate today. I was excited. I told my husband all about your rock tumbling and all about sea glass. We were not on a beach. We were at a gas station in Tennessee. But it looked like some of your rocks. How cool and exciting ❤😊

    You finding a marble at the beach reminded me of the time my roommates and I went to one of our local beaches (a beach that is basically just big rocks, no sand) and found marbles EVERYWHERE. Like literally everywhere. You could barely take 3 steps before finding another marble and some were even hidden in the logs sitting along the beach. We didn’t take any because we thought maybe they were set up for some kids to find, but it was so funny just how many there were and kinda fun to see how many we could find. I think we counted at least 60 and we weren’t even searching a large area, lol.
    Anyway, that’s my marble story that no one asked for, lol.

    In my experience it's not about mommy vs daddy, it's about who's able to be decisive and not back down. If the kids know they can drag out bedtime, they will. Your kids are very smart and they know you can't say no to a cuddle request. I've put down my kids since they were born and once they were weaned off it always took me 5 minutes, to the frustration of many other moms in my life lol. I feel like it made them better sleepers too. To the point that they often announce they want to go to bed and then just go and put themselves to bed. This was very important to me so I took a strong stand on it and it paid off - I need my me time at night and that's the only way I'm able to be a better mom
