      @@TheTownshipRunner simple, because Nike & Adidas have the most & best athletes! Yes great to see ASICS winning a major. Pacers wore MS Paris too. And I’m seeing more people around me wear ASICS now. I will say as someone who was at Chicago, I was surprised by the lack of Adidas overall. They had probably the smallest booth at the expo, with only having the supernova and ultraboost (even puma brought more, including the fast-RB). Where I was in the pack, there were still Bostons, AP3 and Prime X 2s, but not nearly as many as I saw Asics or Nike products. I think combined (obviously just from the small sample I saw around me), I saw more Superblasts than I did all adidas combined. Didn't see a single Adios Pro 4, but did see a few Evo 1s

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ya, it was odd form the coverage I saw as well (I wasn't on the ground obviously). Not just the elites. I also saw very few Adidas anything in the pack, much less than I've seen in recent years. It does tell you something about the size of Adidas's market in the US. While it's a popular brand for American runners, it's not as large as you would think.
      Not surprised about no AP4s as the shoe actually has not been on sale yet. Only elites, selected influencers and some friends/family have them at the moment. I believe there will be a very limited drop later this year but the official release date ins Jan 2025 but I'd not expect mass releases until at least March 2025.

    • @michaelcaricoo
      @michaelcaricoo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @SagasuRunning I would also say it has something to say about the average consumer, which I realize comes off as haughty but is not meant to be so
      In the hallowed halls of the shoe social media space, the Adios Pro 3 is still held up as a pinnacle racing shoe (which I agree with but that's not the point). Same thing with shoes like the Deviate Elite (which I know you have feelings on but still), which I think I only saw 4-5 of including mine. Most consumers are going out and buying what came out last and rolling with it. At least from what I saw, it was a sea of Metaspeeds and Alphafly 3s. Which goes to show, at least from this anecdotal experience, things we worry about (picking the right metaspeed for the runner for example) aren't that big of a thing in the grand scheme.
      It was just eye opening, which it shouldn't have been but was anyway

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @michaelcaricoo Agree here. The AP3 is a great shoe…but it’s over 2 years old. No matter how many colorways Adidas tries to “keep it fresh” with…it’s still an OLD shoe (great, but old). Attention definitely moves to the new shiny thing, AF3s and MSPs. It will be interesting later next spring, once the shoe is on sale for a bit, to see how many AP4s are out there in the pack.

    I was in the D corral at Chicago and I saw a pair of either EVO 1 or AP V4 on a person nearby, they were all white and I didn't take the time to determine which it was. But it definitely surprised me. Beyond that it pretty much played out how you described it. There were a few people running in more daily trainer'esque models. But I saw a ton of VF VX, AF VX, Asics Metaspeeds, and a surprising number of HOKA Ceilo X1's.

      If I had to guess I bet you saw Evo 1s, unless it was an influencer that was also in berlin.

    Hey man. Awesome insights as usual, thank you. I was in the Asics’ flagship store on the Gold Coast last week, and the manager was saying he’d received the photos of the MS4s - they look drastically differently to the MS/EPs, saying how they have a very “flat back”, and are much lighter. So I wonder whether the ones that Korir was wearing are actually that close in design, anyway. Confirmed also that unsurprisingly, Tokyo in early March will be the big launch…

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ya, that is totally the shoe he was wearing. You can see the "flat back" in the photo of what he is holding. Imagine a AF3 heel, but if it was straight and not curved in. There is another Metaspeed as well, something that looks like a Prime X type shoe that was in the leak drop, so there could be as many as 4 Metaspeeds next year...

      @SagasuRunning  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't remember hearing that. The AP4 is a 2025 shoe and will have a limited availability in Jan 2025 (likely just the white colorway in limited regions) with full availability in March 2025 (slowly rolling out to all regions my April, likely). They just did a big press event at Berlin, because... it's Berlin and Adidas's "home" race. I don't even think they sold them at the expo.
      The Evo SL is meant to have a limited release in Oct 2024, then full availability sometime in early 2025. Here in Taiwan I'm not planning on seeing them until spring.

      @@SagasuRunning yes thanks, just though would write it here since talking different supershoes. If given as pace per distance (mile,km) rather than “5k pace”, “10k pace” etc then that should work? @Mr80Miles 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SagasuRunning thanks, yep, no criticism of your vids! Just an observation generally when I watch shoe reviews after my experience of keeping 4:05/km in a recent HM and found that I wasn’t getting the best out of my Sky Paris (compared to say 3:35/km pace) and thought another shoe where this pace is in the sweet spot might be better (your suggestion of VF3 might work, although could be a costly mistake as I just don’t get on with the VF2 (don’t like how they make me land although I think this pace would be in the sweet spot area with them). Enjoy the content and detailed analyses, hope your channel continues to grow!

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Mr80Miles I don’t take it as criticism at all. I see the point. But again, pace is so personal. Not sure how much my pace (or anyone else) would be fully relevant. It’s one of those things you need to workout for yourself in the shoe. This is why (at least for me) I often ballpark paces as “5k” or “10k” because while our pace may differ the use case of the type of running does not. Make sense?

      We shall see...but I wouldn't hold my breath. Asics race shoes have always been true race fits and VERY narrow, for many years. Even a bit before the Metaspeeds. @adamfeerst2575 Oh, I know… but that is also what made them so nimble and gave some of the performance they have. However it also made them very unstable. We shall see what they do next year. Offering big checks, when sample sheos are provided for tryout the athletes are generally saying “I don’t care how much they pay me, I can’t run in those.” A few do make the jump, hoping to be able to develop a shoe to their liking but find that will never happen and basically fade away as they burned other bridges to jump into the big contract.

      I see the Qiaodan Plaid 1.5 in EU reviews and comments…but nothing from the US. A big issue in the US right now is a lot of these brands sell through AliExpress, which has a massive stigma in the US right now, especially with all the news coming out about Temu and SHEIN…it’s an uphill battle that these brands are not helping themselves with. It’s either that or resellers. I know there are many like me but I flat out won’t buy through a reseller on principle alone. I don’t support that business, period. Maybe it's experience and time on feet with them? David has a whole routine of ankle taping for use with the ASU.

    As I'm a slow heavier runner I took notice of the shoes that I saw at my pace on my marathon and it was almost 0 super shoes. More daily trainers. I wonder what the science says about 5 hour marathons and what shoes is slower runners benefit from.

    • @therapygrind
      @therapygrind 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It says carbon plates add significant stiffness to the sole of the shoe and slower runners may be paying a penalty for using them in the form of a higher metabolic cost than if they used a softer soled shoe (Juliet Hochman & Coach Jeff Sankoff, M.D.). The science of max cushion & carbon shoes is very different than the marketing. Most of what are called "supershoes" are designed for runners with a 18-20 bmi (elite men, slightly more for women) that can toe/ball strike the distance. That's a tiny segment of runners. For non-elite runners in most every case the best shoe is going to be the least fatiguing shoe for you, regardless of it's weight, material, etc. For a great many people that's going to be a standard & sensible neutral or stability shoe.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There you go... One niggle, I disagree that a "stability" shoe will be good for "many people"...but a sensible neutral shoe that IS stable will be. Looking through photos I noticed far less super shoes in the masses of runners than I normally do. The press photos i was looking at, I have no idea of the pace, but I would guess well over 5 hours finishing times given the proximity of crowds still around the course. I noticed some supershoes, mostly Alphafly 2s and Vaporflys, a random Adios Pro 3....but then not much else. Lots of Saucony Triumphs, Rides, Endorphins, Brooks models I don't recognize, some Asics and Hokas (but not as many as I expected).

      @@SagasuRunning my time was 5:22 but not Chicago and I went with the superblast 1. I saw a lot of brooks ghost, a few gel nimbus, a few novablasts, some I did not recognize some of those may have been Pegasus as I can not eye the Pegasus vs other Nike shoes. I did see one couple who both had on vaporflys but that was the only super shoe I saw around my pace group. For half's I always use the endorphin pro 3 and my half times are around 2:20 but for the full I felt something more comfortable would be better.

      @@SagasuRunning You're arguing with numbers? In June '24 Runner's World said 50% of runners overpronate. Asics on their website say that metric is 60%. Even if it's just a tiny fraction of what RW & Asics says....it's 'many people'. "The Impact of Excessive Body Weight and Foot Pronation on Running Kinetics: A Cross-Sectional Study", check it out and be mindful 'excessive body weight' starts at a bmi of 25. Couple the stats with the studys and it explains the wild success of Brooks GTS technology, Kayano, GT-2000.

      It has it's place, but I much prefer to see racers with race craft work through a race on their own. Far more interesting.

    Again this rule that the shoes are available for sale at retail is not enforced in any meaningful way. It was always an anti-Nike rule because of athletes white shoe sponsors that were asleep on tech developments.
    The lack of enforcement is fine but the rule is inscrutable.

      In Asics’s case here I have to agree. No effort, at all, was made to sell these. Granted I think they are early in the prototyping phase…. But still.
