I'm from the UK and I never studied too hard and I have a pretty good job now. I would really hate to go through the Korean education system, study day and night and not even be certain I'm going to get a good job at the end of it all. Still I respect how dilligent they are, and whatever they end up doing they will be excellent.

    1. Korea’s college entrance exam is a ‘Norm-referenced test’. There are usually 6 subjects on the exam.
-The subjects tested for students in the natural science department are Korean language, Mathematics II (extremely difficult level mathematics), English, Korean history, and two natural science subjects.
-The subjects tested for students in the social science department are Korean language, Mathematics I (easier than Mathematics II, but still a difficult level), English, Korean history, and two social science subjects.
    2. The difficulty level of Korea’s college entrance exam is very high.
-For reference, the American SAT math questions are at the level of Korean middle school.
In one broadcast, Harvard students came to Korea and competed against Korean high school students to solve math problems, and the Korean high school students won. For reference, that math problem was one of the easiest questions in the math subject of the Korean university entrance exam.
-The article presented in the English subject of the Korean college entrance exam is a professional academic paper at the American graduate school level.
    3. There are so many people in Korea who are good at studying, and their passion for learning is also high. (70-80% of Korea’s young generation graduates from college.)
This is a norm-referenced test, and the difficulty level of the test was taken into consideration so that the level of each Korean student could be clearly compared.
That's why they have no choice but to study from morning to night without complaining. (like unavoidable fierce competition)
    4. The reason Koreans have no choice but to study hard is because Korea is a country with almost no natural resources. Korea is a country where human resources are everything. What this means is that Koreans live in an environment where they must be smart.
    5. Korea’s college entrance exam cannot be solved through ‘memorization’ alone. Because one problem can be solved by creatively combining and applying various difficult concepts, it is like solving a very difficult IQ test.
This means that one cannot become a top class student through ‘effort’ alone.
That's why some people shave their heads like monks and study to go beyond their limits.
Again, Koreans did not choose to be born in this barren land with no natural resources. They simply adapted to their environment. That's all.

    • @user-cnksi223
      @user-cnksi223 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

I'm just saying this just in case. If there are students who want to enroll in a Korean university, don't be afraid.
Thanks to special admissions for foreigners, foreigners can relatively easily enter universities in Korea.

A little sad that prestige is the absolute main reason the kids are there. Prestige doesn't equal a quality education, connections, quality of life, options post graduation etc, it's literally a dick measuring contest. But it's completely understandable, in that culture i'd feel the pressure to do the same.

This is true and not just Ivy League, many state and "regular" universities rank higher than SKY schools in Korea. The US has a lock down on research and papers and talent. But what is also true is that most kids getting into our vaunted US schools would never pass the entrance exam to get into a SKY school much less Seoul National University. Period. Korea's education system and curriculum is not like the West. Different stokes for different folks.
