That fucking epic intro theme, One Track Lover, the face-off in the Scotch mist, Dag's awesome sax solo on the hospital roof, and just all of the bgm and musical cues in general... it's a great show already but damn, Andrew Hewitt did a fucking glorious job with the music. This is a 5 year old comment at this point but I NEED to illustrate just how genius Darkplace is. You get the self-absorbed comment about not being thanked in the beginning. Then, towards the end of the episode, Sanchez DOES thank Dagless for the lift after thanking him for saving his life. So Marenghi did write in the thanks he felt he deserved, while saying "don't mention it", as if he is so considerate that he needs no thanks. AND THEN, in the epilogue, Dagless says he'll have to look after everyone "not that I would get any thanks" like he is annoyed at the lack of appreciation. Marenghi isn't just written as a narcisist. Even his narcissism is written with comedic iteration.

Way too often directors cut mishaps out that would have made the material less sterile if they left them in, would have worked, might even have been a great addition.
