    Just a tip, if the head of the screw/bolt is messed up that bad then just drill the head of it completely off. I use a 1/4 or 5/16 drill bit.
    Also, if you are working on Japanese bikes you should get a set of JIS screwdrivers. I have a set from vessel, they are amazing. The pan head screws are not a regular Phillips head, they are JIS.

    I just checked in after not seeing GoldGuy for almost a year. Dude your channel seems to be doing awesome as well as your continued education as a mechanic and rider. Although to me, you're a kid and I'm pretty sure I have sons older than you, I love your work ethic, dedication and willingness to learn and make mistakes all while sharing it with us fellow riders and backyard diy guys. Keep up the good movies buddy, maybe I'll see you out on the road someday. Peace

    Great vid Mason, always entertaining. Cv Carbs do not like pod filters. It can take hours and hours to try tune around them. Best thing you could do for that bike is put a factory airbox on it. Much cheaper than a set of Flat slides!

    Last year I had to re-jet a carb in a Suzuki LS 650. The spring pushed the needle up against a similar nylon spacer. Which means I had to use a thinner nylon spacer to get higher needle position. But I don´t know your bike and couldn´t see fixation good enough in the video. So it can be different there.

    I don't know if you're bike came with a kick starter but if it did I'd put it back on especially since you made a scrambler to do some off roading. If battery happens to go try bump starting yourself off road. I believe 1981 still had the kick starter. that's me though. I personally always Saw the advantage of both electric starting and kick starters.

    dude im like literally right behind you when it comes to our bikes lol got the digi odometers at the same time, electrical issues same time, oils started leakin around the same time, now clutch is startin to sleep... we also have similar humor, dry ay eff (af) lol but really, if no one else, know theres someone else going thru the same next/if you ever feel like kickin it over lol

    I've seen a lot of things watching you tube videos ... but thats the first time I've seen a guy weld a screwdriver to a frozen bolt ...
    Did you get your performance issue figured out yet ..
    Hows your charging ..is it 13.5-14.0 ...
    Get a few 1" ball bearings ..cut that dent out of your exhaust pipe..pound in the bearings to knock out that horrible dent ..then reweld your pipe on ..
    Ride on ..

    Hey @GoldGuy, I think you’re having a problem with the charging system. You’re having 12.3V at top end. That is very bad and that’s why your batteries are dying. I’d suggest to check both the stator and the regulator-rectifier. If I remember correctly, this bike has a 3 phase Stator and of course, a 3 phase regulator. If you have a multimeter, you can check the stator. The stator has 3 yellow wires (3 phase). Find abs unplug those wires and check with a multimeter if they have continuity with each other (engine side of course). If all of them have with each other, stator is fine. Now check that they’re not going to chassis ground. They should not have continuity to chassis ground. If they have, stator is bad. If you do this and passes the test, then your RR is bad. (Regulator rectifier).

    • @bryanmora960
      @bryanmora960 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, I highly recommend replacing both parts if one of them fails. 3 phase charging systems are very delicate. Usually when one part fails, the other will eventually fail too.
      Also, you can check if those wires have voltage. Again, wires unplugged, all of them should have around 30-90V AC with the engine on between each other and not chassis ground.

    • @bryanmora960
      @bryanmora960 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m certain that your charging system is faulty. At idle, you should get around 13.7 to 13.9V on the digital multimeter. At high RPM, it shouldn’t pass 14.4V.
      And you’re seeing 11.7V at idle. Definitely the charging system is bad. Battery is not getting charged by the electrical system.

    • @GoldGuyRides

      The voltage meter is hooked up to the headlight power wire, not the battery.

    You probably just needed new clutch springs they usually only last 15 years or so and then get week and cause slippage that's my experience at least but I have had to replace friction plates as well.

    I have a question, I have a 1973 Honda bobber with a 1980 kz650 motor. I rebuilt the carbs on it because they were over flowing and the bike would turn on then turn off. Now no leaks . It turns on and turns off quick. Question why doesn't it stay on? What can the problem be?

  • @abbashussaini1492

    I have a question, though it is not related to this video, but some of your previous once. I saw the digital speedometer upgrade on the GS850 and went ahead and ordered one for my bike it's has been over a year now, but I can't seems to get accurate reading both from the speedometer and RPM

  • @chrisgreenwood271
    @chrisgreenwood271 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had issues with clutch slip on my 850, all the friction plate were in spec I found one of the metal plates was slightly distorted, what sorted the slip was a new clutch cable, and properly adjusted.
    Did you measure the length of the clutch springs for spec.

      I have RS34's on my KZ, they are responsive and make the bike pull hard up top but they are kind of annoying at low speeds in traffic and get awful fuel mileage. It's a love hate for flatslides with me.
