    I've found it helpful to focus on betterment of the local community, which has virtually nothing to do with identity politics. Just neighbors helping neighbors.

    Very good info. Thanks. A fews things i would suggest if thats ok. We are open range you hit a cow you will pay for the cow. Two you dont speed past horse back riders. I take pics of license plates numbers now Three the water table is dropping also due to increase of housing here. I lived here 38 years.
    Thank you.

      Thanks for the additional insights. Yes water table is dropping, so advise anyone/everyone to have rain catchment. I don't rely on wells or the groundwater at all, I have rain catchment only, and as a solo person, it works well. Large families may not find it so simple or effective. But for singles or couples, i think its a great solution.

    As a non native to Cochise Co or the USA for that matter, You could also mention the pro's and Con's of 2A carry in the area...It was a eye opener for me back in 2001 when i first arrived here seeing that just about everyone around here is carrying a firearm of some sort...Something i love...lol...I carry as well now

      With all the illegals and cartel here and the rise in crime and the illegal criminals who want to hurt or kill Americans coming here. Plus the criminals coming to a small town from large inner cities. Our sheriff Dannell's encourages us to carry to protect ourselves.

    It only take one a-hole to make life difficult. I got a racist one(one night came to my place at night yelling F*** You N-word) who we've have to go to court against several times. But if someone knows how to use the system, they can make your life difficult. For example, Cochise County Zoning is complaint driven. They won't bother you unless someone complains. If someone complains, even if they just make up things, Code enforcement comes out and inspects. I've been dealing with regular non complaints....including a complaint for having a bright unshielded light because at 1030pm, the crazy neighbor(who lives a mile away) was parking outside my property videoing my property when I pointed a flashlight at him. I've passed every inspection but having to deal with them because of an "anonymous" complaint is just tiring.

    • @solohomesteader

      yes, neighbors can make life difficult for sure! Sorry you're dealing with this!

    When I added a 24 x 24 outbuilding to my place south of Sierra Vista, it took seven months for a concrete truck to show up--unannounced--and pour the foundation.

    I wonder why you don't use an outhouse or composting toilet, rather than manually dumping your waste into septic.

    • @solohomesteader
      @solohomesteader  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question! Short answer: Simplicity. Cant legally use an outhouse, poop has to go into the septic system. Composting toilet is an option, but since my situation is temporary, im just going with the cheap route of a camping toilet. One more year and then i'll be back to a regular flushing toilet, living the deluxe life again.

    Great video! What about having water hauled? Is that an option, if so, are there companies that bring it? Or does one have to go somewhere to get it?

    • @solohomesteader
      @solohomesteader  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, water hauling is my fallback plan if we have a really nasty drought for multiple years, although with a 3rd cistern I likely could never run out... I collect far more than I use.. There are several companies in the county that deliver water.

  • @peteyb5150
    @peteyb5150 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video. Great speaker.
    I was thinking about soil type. Caleche (sorry if I misspell) or sandy.. Sandy would be worse right? Because how do you remedy soft ground? If its hard ground, it'll take more time but its possible... sandy ground sounds like a nightmare 😢🤣
    Great video my man, thanks for making them 😉

    • @solohomesteader
      @solohomesteader  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, sandy soil is harder to build on, you have to dig deeper and pour more concrete, and its harder to create electrical grounding too if the sand is bone dry. Caliche is a beast to work with, but having "bedrock" to build on does provide some peace of mind that your building won't settle. And I just like looking at it where it breaks the surface.

    It’s easier to just buy a crappy little industrial building in an inner city industrial park or really the type with few windows or the few there are being glass block then shut the world out. Being out in the middle of nowhere it’s impossible to get anything done plus everyone can see that you’re there cluttering up their landscape especially in desert areas with virtually no trees except up in the mountains.

    Great info but we cannot generalize. Though you're very close to reality. Politics (both sides) stink in Cochise county. The cities would be better off without mayors because they aren't working to raise the quality of life. They destroy the cities, actually. Bisbee has been going downhill with the last two mayors.. Like everywhere else vandalism is growing by the day. The border is open, not like TX but they find their ways in, and I'm here to prove it. When walking around, I meet many illegals dressed in camouflage hiding behind the bushes not making me feel very safe. You're right that everything is ridiculously expensive here. The supermarkets, gas, hospitals, clinics, and services are ripping off everyone. I was told that's because 'rural areas' are considered the same as 'resorts', go figure. They dare over charging people because there is no competition which is a real a crime. I was also told that it is because of people coming through the border and having no money to pay for services therefore Americans living in rural areas will pay for them which is unfair because there are no jobs here. The sun is always rising which is wonderful but yes it's very, very windy which is frustrating. The nights can be very cold in winter and the days very hot in summertime. Still, it is a beautiful area and a lot better than living in Phoenix or Los Angeles, for sure. Corruption is everywhere in America, no matter where you want to live. The best is yet to come.

    I am 65 years old and able to CLEARLY see both sides of any argument. And at every election season and in between, actually enjoyed spirited debates between the BLUE and RED ideologies. Like elbow to elbow at our favorite watering hole taking friendly jabs back and forth.
    Now comes along a "guy" who has set a tone for vile disgusting hatred of one another, to where we can't tolerate one another any more. Hatred is back with an ugly vengeance and intolerance never seen before. And I had friends with racist background that were still "friends". But now they've all jumped onto that MAGA bandwagon. People used to ask me to "help them understand". Today, they don't want to "understand". They just head to the clerk's office for their carry permit and keep to themselves.
    Red vs Blue used to be fun and healthy. Now it's an ugliness of unmatched proportions.

      Yes! I can still remember my Grandfather, dad, his brothers and their friend discussing politics in the 50's. It was a rather convivial engagement where points of view were thoroughly discussed.
      My grandfather was a progressive union Democrat and a one time member of the Wobblies and a staunch supporter of human rights. The rest were a mix of political and philosophical leanings, but I don't recall ever hearing a raised voice, Things have certainly changed. Rational discussion and discernment is currently extinct and we tip toe around it at our peril.

    I love Bisbee. I've been married there once, had two honeymoons at the Copper Queen, taken every girlfriend there and still go. I'm retiring in a couple of years (I've lived in Tucson for 40 over years. One of the three blue dots in a big sea of red.) I think of living in Bisbee on occasion but it would have to be in the main part. I prefer to walk as many places as I can. I wish I had bought one of those old dilapidated hillside houses in the 1970's when I was stationed at Ft. Huachuca. They averaged about $7000 back then. Thanks for the video. Maybe I'll see you around.

    Old Bisbee!? The hippie artist town all the hippie counter-culture lfolks revived the old ghost town by squatting in the old abandoned miner's shacks!? Bisbee where the tunnel through the mountain into town has been dubbed by the locals "The Time Tunnel"!? Red?? NO WAY!!
    Sierra Vista/Ft Huachuca? Yep. Douglas? Benson? Wilcox, Kansas Settlement!? Yup!
    Maybe even in Waren right outside of Old Bisbee...but NOT Old Bisbee, the Town Where Volkswaggons Go To Die!?
    Naaa....
