    Absolutely worked a treat. We have the 46" model, and the problem was the horizontal 'shadow lines' and also a few rows of dead black pixels. When playing with the ribbons, I found that unplugging the left ribbon (right when repairing) resolved the issue on the other side of the screen. I tested with a 2mm wide piece of tape moving over different pins, and found that some of the pins about 2/3rds the way along solved the issue completely. Can't thank you enough!

    brilliant, just fixed a tv with this video, picture is now looking perfect after a bit of trial and error with the tape, i taped about 5mm wide close to left edge but still had some contacts showing. What i don't understand is how this works, i would have thought taping over contacts would make the picture worse, so a bit baffling how taping over contacts makes it better, but hey it worked!

    Thanx very much for this video. Just bought a Samsung LE40A558 model lcd tv on the flea market here in the UK for 40 pounds that had bad vertical and horizontal lines and double image. I guess you can imagine the picture what it looked like.
    Using your method loosening up the left side ribbon (facing the screen) and just re-seating it fixed it. I didn't use the tape, but just undid the clip holding the ribbon, pulled it out and while watching the screen started to play with and voila, the screen became clear and line and double image free. Good Job. Hope it'll help others as well.

    Dave, you are not only a genius, but also a gentleman, a scholar, and a huge dollar saver. I walked into my house tonight after a long week at work, and my wife says "Not good, something is wrong with the TV". And it was the dreaded double screen that I had never heard of before. After following your video, it is working great. I could not get the UN40D6000 to power on during the repair, and rolled the dice with a comment about covering 16 pins with the tape. Put her all back together, and she is working great. Just in time for Ole Miss football tomorrow. Many many thanks.

    • @DoItWithDave
      @DoItWithDave  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zilnich Productions thank you. I'm glad you found this helpful. I don't know exactly why it works. Some people have posted that static electricity builds up on the connections and causes the double image, and by applying the tape it acts as a insulator preventing the static electricity to build up.

    • @ZilnichProductions
      @ZilnichProductions 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow. The thing that makes me wonder is, I actually replaced my t-con board, the ribbon cables and the power supply. None of that worked. The little piece of tape worked though. It almost seems the problem is elsewhere and for some reason this remedies it. Where did you find out about this anyway?

    Thanks to Dave for posting this fix. Very detailed and clear enough to follow. Unfortunately, when I tried it on my 46 inch Samsung LCD TV made in 2009, it did NOT solve the problem. My set failed exactly 1 month after the extended warranty expired in late 2013. I lived with it as it got worse for about 9 months then bought another TV. Apparently, this horizontal line problem is endemic to many Samsung TVs and pervades ribbon connections in their other appliances as well and it's been going on for YEARS. There really should be a mass recall and repair/replacement since this has effected MILLIONS of buyers. A $1200 TV should last more than 4 years. I will NEVER BUY SAMSUNG again.

      Unfortunately, "they're" all in with the Planned obsolescence (search YT for the video). MJ sang it best "They don't care about us".Even when some class action suits hit them in the wallet. It's just too small a percentage for them to care. But thanks to people like Dave, I got rid of the double image but not able to fix the lines. At least my $1200 TV is somewhat watchable for now. I'll keep praying that maybe just maybe the lines will go away at some point.

I was considering taking it in for repair but I have other larger TV's and didn't want to spend the money so I said whatever if I break it who cares, no loss. This totally worked and took me under an hour to do. Great vid. I'm curious if you know why covering these pins with the scotch tape has this effect, do you know the tech science behind it? I don't know for a fact. Companies make products based on supply and demand. If a product sells well and everone is buying than the demand is up. However once everyone buys one the and has no need the buy another one of that product than the demand goes down. If a company wants to keep the demand high to sell more products then people will need to keep buying those products. If a device is purchased more than once by a consumer before the life expectancy of that product than the company makes more revenue then if a consumer only 'needs' to buy the product one time. In my opinion I wouldn't put it past a company to design a device to fail at a certain point so that same device would be purchased again before it become obsolete.

      My guess: this is why Samsung uses horribly cheap capacitors. I've had lots of Samsung LCD's with busted capacitors after two years. Not-so-coincidentally that's the same length of time as the typical manufacturer's warranty!

      What the tape does is to give the ribbon some tightness in order for stability. There is better connectivity when the tape is inserted. After a while the ribbon cable gets a little worn and so a little servicing becomes necessary. Hope this gives you some sort of clarity.

    • @DangolWhopper
      @DangolWhopper 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      In this video the tape seems to be covering some of the electrical contacts on the ribbon cable. How is that not preventing electrical connections between those contacts and the socket? The video leads me to believe that not all of those connections are necessary for the tv to work.

    • @carlcollard
      @carlcollard 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only logical thing I can see about this FIX method is the capacitance effect of the tape. It is doing the job of some bad SMD ceramic capacitors on the LCD boards.

    • @possiblydavid
      @possiblydavid 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I belive this works because the connections are redundant. I also think the connections which are disconnected by the tape were faulty due to the solder connecting the connector to the pc board breaking loose.

    Dear Dave, Thanks so much for your video, it really worked for me and I can't thank you enough! A month ago a neighbour had put a Samsung LA40550K7M out for rubbish collection. I took it home, plugged it in and only found that it had two thin horizontal lines around the middle of the screen, everything else was working fine. I looked for a couple of days on the net and couldn't anything that was helpful apart from buying a new or second hand T Con card and hoping for the best. In my heart I knew this was something of a connector issue but couldn't put my finger on it. One day i pulled the tv apart and had tried to to reinsert the ribbon cables and the like but to no avail. It was only after i put it back together and actually left the screen on for an hour and saw what the neighbour had seen to throw it out. The top half of the screen developed a double image after warming up making it virtually impossible to watch anything and thats how I found your youtube clip. At first i tried the left hand side(from the back of the screen) and found no improvement, only made it worse after mucking around with differing widths and positions of the tape, but when I pulled out the cable from the right hand side and half the picture went, the problem horizontal lines went too. I then knew that this side had the fault. I started on the left hand side of the cable but it was only until i got the the right hand end that i made the breakthrough. My sticky tape piece covered only about 8 segments and from about 2/3rds from the left hand side of the right ribbon and with a little experimentation the issue is now completely solved. Got myself a nice free LCD screen now.Cheers :)

    WORKED!!! I still have a few horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen, but they are fainter now. The double image issue is fixed. A replacement T-CON board for my TV was like $10 so I ordered one anyway. Better than spending $350 on a new 32" TV.

    Wow... It worked!!! I had problems on both sides, but fixing a single side seemed to clear the problem completely. I even sliced about 1/6th through one of the ribbon cables & almost gave up, but somehow the slice didn't mess anything up. Thank you so much for posting this, I've been looking at this "broken" tv in my room for 2 years, wishing it was working. Now I don't have to wish anymore :)

    I had the same problem with My 40" Samsung LCD. I watched the video and it really worked. My Samsung Service Personnel asked to replace the LCD panel which was quite shocking. How companies are cheating there customers. As the LCD was out of warranty, I gave a try before going for replacement. This video really worked in the first attempt. Dear Dave you were a great help. Thanks a lot and keep on posting such interesting videos

    This happened to my 55" SAMSUNG LED last saturday and was too afraid to open up the back and do this so I instead took it to 2 different tv repair companies which they BOTH said my panel went bad. Both said it's cheaper to buy a new TV than to replace the panel. THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO.... after buying a new TV and looking at the 5 year old Samsung that supposedly had a bad panel, I decided to go ahead and try your fix.... AND IT WORKED!!!!! Got the screen back to the way it originally came.
    THANK YOU AGAIN - who would have thought that a piece of tape would do the trick and it wasn't THAT scary to do it myself. (with the help of my hubby)

    Dude. You are the freaking Man!!! Saved me ALOT of money. I had to put my tape on the right controller and not at the very end, but a bit more inwards. Maybe skipping 24 pins or so on the end before i put my tape on.
    But this video gave me the know how to troubleshoot and find out which controller it was, and after the first few attempts at tape on the end didn't work, i moved more inwards and BAM! Perfect picture.

    Thanks so much for this instructive, informative video. Just brought a Samsung 40 inch back into the realm of completely usable. After eliminating all horizontal lines, I'm left with some vertical line artifacts, but, not enough to ruin the party of bagging a monster like this off the street and totally re-animating it. Thanks again, Dave.
    PS: I think it's worth repeating the line about patience; had to experiment multiple times to find the exact sweet spot that would eliminate both problems faced trying to use the TV initially. When I don't need this one anymore, I'll figure it all out (lol!).

    Hi Dave, I have a Samsung LED 40inch (UE32C5700) and all of a sudden this problem started 3 days ago. I called in the Samsung engineer and was given a hefty quote to replace the screen + service charges. The technician himself recommended me to buy a new one which will be cheaper than the repair cost.
    I looked up TH-cam and found your video. To be frank, initially I was a little skeptic on how sticking a tape would work. But, I am no electronics guy and thought to give it a try. I followed your video religiously (right to the being gentle part and delicate fingers :-)) and was able to fix the issue in the first try. Thanks a ton for your easily understandable step-by-step procedure, I did not even feel that I was repairing a costly electronic product.
    The only issue is that I am now seeing a line between the 2 halves of the screen, it is very light but noticeable in channels/programs where the lighting is bright and has enough contrast and colors. I gather from comments that I need to play around with the width of the tape and the positioning of it. Is that correct? If so, I will try it some other Sunday and try to get this fully right.
    Thanks again, and anyone else having the problem and reading this, don't doubt or hesitate - go ahead and try it out with this video. It is super easy - you just need to be patient, methodical and delicate as Dave instructs multiple times.

      Siva R thank you so much, yeah people have posted they adjusted the cable a bit. If you do just be careful as the tape can peel off a layer of the cable when removed.

    Can't thank you enough for this! My screen on my 50" Samsung (UA50F6300AM) went in a similar manner. In my case, the bottom left corner went white too and the panel was really hot in that corner.
    Getting to the ribbon cable in mine was very simple though. Just removed the back panel and that's it. Selotape applied to the left cable and it worked first time! Didn't need to fiddle with anything. So a bit lucky in that respect :) so many thanks, again!

    I Can't believe it, Bloody brilliant fix! I have a Samsung UE40D6530 purchased in 2011 with ghosting issues.
    Your fix worked a treat, I was quite dubious at first after watching the video, I didn't understand, how you decided which ribbon to adjust or how the tape affected the picture (I still don't understand how the tape stops the Ghosting?) I did some research on LED TV's and LVDS cables and after reading all the comments to your video I was convinced it would work.
    Hint; If you have my model TV, you do need to reconnect the surround panel to operate the buttons at the back or the remote control to test your picture, be careful and take your time, all in all it took me and my retired electrician neighbour 1 1/2 hours.
    Thanks Dave for a brilliant fix.
