The theme is based on a play called Calendar Girls, which was itself based on a real event where a group of women did exactly that for charity. EDIT - when Jen says "If it's unemployed men or old women from Yorkshire it's fun" --- she's referring to the movie the Full Monty in the first instance and Calendar Girls in the second.
The Full Monty - Written by a man from Bradford. Calendar Girls - Filmed in Bradford. Mark Addy from The Full Monty - Stars in at least 7 Bradford filmed productions (a few others from The Full Monty have also starred in Bradford filmed productions). Geraldine James from Calendar Girls - Stars in at least 7 Bradford filmed productions (most of the main actors have starred in other Bradford filmed productions, most notably Helen Mirren and Julie Walters).
For an episode in season 4, you will need to do some homework and watch an episode of the daytime game show Countdown. Preferably a 90s version. NOT the 8/10 Cats version with Jimmy Carr. That way you will get better context for one of the episodes.
I had never seen Countdown before I watched that episode. It's not difficult to get a rudimentary idea of the game just by watching IT Crowd. It's cool to see they got the actual Countdown people on it, though.
You should give "The Young Ones" a try. I'm pretty sure you'll both like it. It was my favourite show growing up, before Father Ted, The IT Crowd and all these other shows came out.
Agree it’s hard for people who weren’t around in the 80s to get the Young Ones now especially the first series. I’d recommend a few of the later episodes in series 2 to get them into it
22:00 What you guys call vacation we call holiday. I know that in the US holiday, or holiday season, is a thanksgiving-through-Christmas thing and the rest of the year you guys call time off work a vacation. In the UK any time you have time off work or school it's always known as a holiday. The biggest is the summer holiday because the kids are off school for 6 weeks so the whole family disappears somewhere sunny for a few weeks. Then there's the spring holiday, American youngsters call this spring break, then there's the autumn holiday - known as half-term or the October break in the UK, then lastly there's the Xmas holiday, which lasts until around January 2nd. In fact I think holiday in the UK actually means two thing in the US. When you guys have time off work and you travel somewhere you call it a vacation, and when you have time off work but don't go anywhere you call it a break (I think). In the UK we use holiday for both meanings. If I have two weeks off work and decide to go to Italy I'm on holiday, whereas if I have two weeks off work and spend it at home enjoying my free time I'm still on holiday. Holiday just means no work and no school.
When you get to the end of series 4, you'll have to find the very final extended episode 'The Internet is Coming'. Not sure where you're sourcing these videos from, but a lot of video servers don't include that very final episode.
That's because season 4 ended in 2010 and the closure episode The Internet is coming was aired in 2013. (Technically billed as season 5) So a lot of rips of the originals don't have it for that reason.
My "Byeeee!" has been like Moss since this came out. I also had to resist the strong urge, whilst on a military shooting range, to run around shouting "A gun! I've got a ruddy gun!" This show has ruined me.
@18:36 Those 2 "mob bosses" were purposely picked to look like 2 brothers from one of the UK's longest-running and most known TV soaps, "Eastenders"; Phil and Grant Mitchell, known for their criminal activity, and rough, no-nonsense behaviour
You have season 4 now, which is awesome btw, Graham Linehan planned to write a season 5 but simply wasn't enjoying it so decided to do a finale special one-off extended episode, which again was brilliant.
Hey, Boomers, I actually did take part in a nude-calendar photo shoot😊. It was even my own idea. I work as an independent artist ( metal, casting, forging stuff & medieval armor) and the ladies at the big compound where my workshop is located did a semi-nude calendar 2 years ago. So I launched the idea to do a male, but full nude version. Just to please the ladies. My picture in the month of May: Nude, wearing my viking helmet, hammering a sword on my anvil. Note: it was about 5 degrees Celsius that day...
This dates to when every charity, business and college did nude calendars. It was a huge fad in the UK after a Women's Institute did it for charity in 1999
Have you checked to see if a peripheral or even a nearby object is shorting or badly grounded? Or if something nearby is causing static? That MAY be the source of your computer problems.
The show was written right around the time the movie Calendar Girls was a big hit and nude calendars for charity became popular for a while (Firemen, Doctors etc)
Great fun, as ever! Sadly, you need to start planning to fill the void when you finish S4 and the extended special final episode. I recommend Green Wing, Upstart Crow (David Mitchell) and The Thin Blue Line (Rowan Atkinson).
What's funny is in when Moss comes back from his holiday, as an audience member, I hadn't noticed he'd been missing from the episode up to that point either.
Your setting issue is related to your USB issue. When usb devices drop out then programs you are running will be alerted of this and default to another device. The powered USB device might be a dodgy Chinese one with a sh1tty power supply that's failing. When it comes to powered hubs try to go for a brand name version that has at least USB 3.0 capacity
I need to watch this again with a bottle of whisky to take a shot every time Callie yawns, I'll be hammered in no time 😂...the joys of parenthood. Brian you never yawned once, I guess we know who gets up at night the most 😂
There was a craze for this sort of calendar here in England during the early 2000s amongst the Womens' Institute, which the fim mentioned celebrated. My Mother appeared in one....my MOTHER! I couldn't look at it. She was 82 for goodness sake! Probably looked as though she was wearing a pink wrinkled Onesie.
Like the joke about the old folks home resident who streaked through the halls as a prank. When asked what they were wearing one woman said she couldn't tell, but it needed ironing!
For audio switching problems, I recommend disabling all you other unused sound devices and make sure your main audio is set to the default. It's not just you, I have a 50/50 shot of screwing up my audio settings when I plug a PS4 controller into my Win11 PC.
“If you went up to a woman in her 20s and asked her to take naked pictures she’d say ‘no. Go away’” Uh… The Internet is filled with so many that said yes.
There is a play (and a film) called Calendar Girls based on a real story where the Women's Royal Institute (Jam and Bake Sales) created a nude calendar to raise money for a local cancer ward.
There's only one word for this episode - esotropia! (I can laugh, I suffered from a bout of strabismus several years ago. The jokes directed against me were the usual ones...)

These types of calendars happened occasionally as fundraisers. No one was buying them for their erotic qualities, just as support for people who were willing to do something a bit outrageous and humorous for their cause. Being able to poke a bit of fun at yourself and have other people laugh is generally admired outside the US.
You should watch a movie with the Mrs called submarine written and directed by Moss and I believe somewhat autobiographical I loved it and I think the missus will too
Great episode👍although I've got many IT qualifications I still can't get my HP Wifi printer to work wirelessly and it was one of the first wireless printers on the market, arghh 😜 and it got so bad that I ended up buying a six feet usb cable for it to my shame 😭so no help from me lolol😂🤣

One of the most funny and cleverly crafted of the series. I agree, the Boomers need to do some background research for that episode.
I had never seen Countdown before I watched that episode. It's not difficult to get a rudimentary idea of the game just by watching IT Crowd. It's cool to see they got the actual Countdown people on it, though.

I love Young Ones but it is a product of its time. Bottom has aged better - Foxy, stoaty stoaty stoat seeks.....Pig!
Agree it’s hard for people who weren’t around in the 80s to get the Young Ones now especially the first series. I’d recommend a few of the later episodes in series 2 to get them into it
I love how you guys compliment each other all the time. Never stop doing that.
Loved Roy's Bert & Ernie T-shirt!
Thanks guys, great stuff as always!
Once you've finished the entire catalogue of I.T. Crowd you can watch all the out-takes, they're on here, and are well worth watching.
You should watch Black Books, its in the same vein as IT Crowd.
This is hands down, my favorite episode from the IT crowd, Moss is absolutely brilliant in this one!
