Girl you have inspired me!! Thank you so much :) I really needed that boost of confidence I work as a dental assistant and my long term goal is to become a hygienist, but I am not the best with standardized tests and it has created a lot of fear. I always think I can't pass those exams in order to get in. However, you have made me realize that failure leads to success and initially prepares you to strive hard.
Omg thank you so much for doing this video , I’m so discouraged right now. In the middle on this pandemic, taking online classes and taking care of my child it’s getting really hard for me, I even thought about dropping school, but your story helped me double think and stay on track.
First and foremost, congratulations on your success as a Dental Hygienist at the University of Michigan! Providing this positive and inspirational video will assist people in dealing with their doubts and struggles. I was accepted to the University of Michigan Dental Hygiene program in May of 2020, and I can recall my acceptance phone call like yesterday! I was at work as well and I was crying tears of joy because I'd come a long way and also had doubts about being accepted.💙💛 Thank you for sharing your story with us; perhaps one day I will do the same!
This was definitely inspirational! I haven’t had the best success with college classes so I took a break for dental assisting. I will be going back soon giving it my all to pursue dental hygiene! Looking forward to your videos to help with my journey!
This is actually really inspiring! My goal is to also go to U of M, Ann Arbor. I’m still doing my prerequisites at HFC and I met with an advisor to show me what courses I needed to take to be able to transfer. She said I’m shooting too high. It really discharged me, even though I’m a straight A student. Seeing this video now gave me a lot of inspiration. Thanks a bunch!
Omg 😳 story of my life🥺 I’m a dental assistant and I thought I dental hygiene would be perfect for me but I got discouraged because it was so competitive ☹️ well I changed my major to education and now I’m going to back to retake all my science classes because it’s been more than five years 😩 I wasted my time and money but this time I’m gonna be positive 👌🥰
Thank you so much sis i really do appreciate this video i am currenlty taking my prerequitites for the dental hygiene program. this video helped me a lot
Ur story is literally me rn!!! I’m a nurse aide at a hospital and have taken classes towards nursing w some bad grades and changed to hygiene, so now I’m taking more prereqs and trying to get my gpa up. I’m so nervous about applying, but want it so bad!!!!!
Subscribed! I never thought about dental hygiene as a career. I thought about nursing and physical therapy, for this reason I got my B.S in Health at my college. However when I met a dental hygienist and became friends with her I began to research the field. I have one more prereq to take Micro! My other classes I have pretty good grades except I'm struggling in A&P 2 right now.. but I have hope! I look forward to your dental hygiene content!
FitJess sorry I am still learning TH-cam and never seen this comment 😭 but thank you so much love for the support! 💕 I think you will like being a hygienist and I hope your journey to become one is great. & that’s good, keep your grades up. you’ll be fine. For A&P to, find memory techniques, that’s what works best for me. If you need any help I can try and help as best I can, just let me know! & keep me updated on your journey to rdh ☺️💚
Congratulations, im finished up all my prerequisites this summer and fall the I apply in the fall & I was so nervous about getting in & getting all As & Bs in my requisites .
Great video!! Your journey is very relatable and inspiring. Last year I applied for my dental hygiene program and unfortunately did not get in so I had to retake A&P as well so lords willing I get accepted this year!! Good luck on your journey especially During this time. Rooting for you girly!! Looking forward to more blogs/content 🦷👑💙
Genie J thank you so much 🥰 you WILL get in, sometimes it’s just a minor setback for a major comeback! You got this girl 💪🏽 glad I could inspire you to keep going 💕 keep me updated on your journey!
the program I'm applying to has the minimum requirement gpa at 2.0 and the minimum grade for all prerequisites at a C They also have a point system where if your a resident you get an extra 10 points If you have an associate's you get an extra 15 points, not like and associate's for dental assisting just a basic associate's, Do you see alot of people that have previous dental assisting applying for dental hygiene?
This was so inspiring because I'm also planning to transfer from Eastern to Umich, possibly for the same dentistry program. Could I know the prerequisites you took before transferring and other things you did to stand out on the application? Thank you so much!
I am a first-time college student at the age of 29 and currently taking prerequisites to enter a 2-year program for Dental Hygiene! You are motivation goals! Question, did you take Anatomy and Psychology 2? I think I may have to take microbiology as well... They say that it's not a must that I take it but also that I most likely won't get in without it. So should I just take A&P 2 and Micro before applying to be on the safe side? I am currently going to be taking A&P 1 in the fall.
Hi love! Yes I took A&P 1+2 and microbiology at a community college before I applied the second time around. They really wanted to know that I can manage science courses! If your other classes are looking good grade wise, and they will require you to take these classes before entering then I go for it! I would talk to the admissions director to see what they think as well because they would know best!
I’m 29 taking my second to last pre req I’m taking anatomy and physiology 1 & 2 these next two semesters. You’re comment is so encouraging!!! Good luck love ♥️♥️♥️

I am so sad that I won’t make it on time for this years Dental Assisting program at my college. I am going have to wait for next falls 2023 program ughhhh ): your story however shows me that I’m not alone and that I am not the only one who’s going through this ): thank you
Well you have to give yourself credit for how far you have come to get where you are now. I ended up getting waitlisted my first application cycle and had to wait an entire year to apply again. But I used the year very wisely to do whatever I could to make my next application strong! So I recommended to do the same and 2023 will be here faster than you know it, especially if your staying busy! Hope this helps, :) Good luck!
I dropped out of Human Anatomy. It was hard. I’m retaking it in the Fall. My gpa is 3.0 tho but I really need to pass with an A to get accepted in the program
So this might be a stupid question so bare with me, I’m 16 and I feel like I really want to be a dental hygienist and I’m confused on how it all works, do you go to college and then get certified, do you become an assistant first and then become a hygienist, do you just get your associates degree and your good, is it just a certification? If anyone can answer the steps you take from high school I would really appreciate it ! Thanks in advance
Hi love! This is not a stupid question, nor is any, so feel free to ask me anything! To become a dental hygienist, the process can be a little different depending on what program you apply too but for most programs, they require you to take certain pre-requisite course prior to applying to a DH school. Some school require you to take other Gen Ed courses too (English, Psychology, Math, etc.) Once those are completed then you can apply right to the program. No assisting school needed to apply to dental hygiene. There is no certificate for dental hygiene. It’s either an Associates or Bachelors, or Masters degree. Which state do you live in?
I’m applying next year! I have one more prereq to take in the fall and I’m done! This is helpful for me because I worry so much! & I literally push myself to get the best grades I can get. Did they look at your experience at all?

Hello love! & no I don’t think you should retake human anatomy. A “B” is not bad. Actually some schools average out grades if you take it twice, so even if you got an A the next time, it may not be worth an A still. I would stick with your B, that’s good and better than a C anyways
