IMO all of the problems in this point stem from Rune being late. Watch carefully and you will see his racquet still pointed up after the ball bounces, then he rushes the rest of the racquet take back & drop, and swing all after the bounce. Because of this he feels like he needs more time and wants to back up, or hit purely rotationally instead of forward weight transfer. You are right that good athletes can still get a ton of power with no forward weight transfer, but when given time and opportunity for it they can still hit an even heavier shot with less effort by transferring weight forward as well as rotating.
You are correct.
Excellent vid! Thanks Coach 🙏 appreciate
Great Analysis!! Good job!
It's funny, Holger hit a highlight reel shot against Fritz in their match last night where he ran down a lab in the ad court, and pivoted to hit an inside in forehand drive down the line from near the back fence. He was feeling it in the second set tiebreak and beyond last night, but I still think his ranking could be even higher if he played higher margin tennis! Appreciate the analysis
Based on your video I should say higher percentage probability attacking tennis AND higher margin tennis depending on the circumstances. Still excited to see how he develops.
Excellent video with great details. Thank you Ryan ! :)
Glad you liked it!
Very good video as alays
I saw the mistakes "immediately" as well; Ryan...
Before your analysis.
People need to understand your videos are about improving your tennis play,
and sometimes they will showcase pros who didn't choose the right; move,
stroke, or strategy at that very moment which puts them into trouble "in real time"
which; yes, is tougher.
Pro's are far from perfect...
They just make WAY less mistakes than rec players do.
Just because your highlighting these mistakes
(which are for players to learn from all levels)
doesn't mean you think you can do better....that should be obvious.
You got this 👊
Thanks so much for the support!
Thank you sir. Will you recommend this tactical changes on slow courts esp clay? Or will you apply some adjustments?❤
From what I taught in this video? All the same on clay…

Excelent analysis. Holger should have win this point if he juste moved in when Rune was in trouble. Hit a valley at the service line and approached to the net to hit the next shot.
Rune was just internalizing his inner Rafa haha
Ha very true.
See it again and again ; spacing isn"t optimal, and the low to high schould"t be tryde in this situation, but Holger schould drive high to high or on the rise low to low. Instead Holger put himself between " to chairs " in this situation. So antisipation is lacking. here from Holger. Great comments from you coach.
Pretty sure thats a force of habit when most of the time you do have to move backwards
Thanks for watching!
This is a training session. Players play differently during these and try things out. How do you know what Holger was working on.? Have a look at the session from Djokovic and Dimitrov. You can find a lot to critizise for both players. th-cam.com/video/StNXX45ek2g/w-d-xo.html
Good analysis
Send this to PM Ryan😂
Ahhaha
Should have gone to the net either after the serve or second shot but they just don't have that instinct these days!!
I agree!
Rublev's high ball was so deep Rune wouldn't do much with it if he ran to the net, he would be lobbed and rushed back. He is actually one of the guys who has the instinct and always follows good aggressive shots to the net (unlike Rublev who can push the opponents so hard but he almost never runs forward to finish the points). The serve was a 2nd serve, it's very rare to do serve&volley after 2nd serve but it could work with this one. What I would expect Holger to do is to play his third shot as a drive volley just inside the baseline. It's a risky shot, but surely pros can do it when they have that much time and this was a training session so he had nothing to lose. Backing off and trying to hit an aggressive flat shot without moving forward against the bounce was really the worst decision he could do.
@patrikmarflak6559 the high ball wouldn’t have gone over his head. Rune would’ve only been 2 steps inside the baseline. The point is he needed to be aggressive and take that ball with a full swing out of the air and attack.
@@2MinuteTennis I was reacting to atheistcory4174's suggestion to follow the second shot to the net. Do you think he would be able to smash it if he ran forward? I am not talking about going two steps inside the baseline, that would probably be perfect for a drive volley. But if he was too eager to take 3 or 4 big steps forward, he would have hard time with the defensive lob. It's hard to say how high the ball is flying over the service box area and if he could reach it with an overhead without having to move back. But judging by the ball's speed and depth it wouldn't be an easy overhead. On the other hand, he is a phenomenal athlete and he has the guts to smash the ball even from the baseline, so it would probably still be a better idea than what he did here. And even if he smashed it into the net, it would at least look much better :)
Hedline for this vid is not cool
Actually, I think the thumbnail and title describe exactly what happened… He made mistakes that you see beginners make.
That would have been a tricky swinging volley, right from the back of the court. I love to see swinging volleys, but presumably they don't do it much as there's a price to pay for taking the risk of being inside the court and for choosing the shot that's more difficult to execute.
Yeah, he really sucks. Otherwise his ranking would be higher than number 7 in the world now!
Do you think he players this point perfectly?
@@2MinuteTennis
Of course not. All your points are valid. But he’s still an amazingly good player being no7 in the world. So I guess it just happens sometimes. I’m sure you can find similar silly things Federer did as well. Well, maybe not. 😀
@watcher687 I really like his game. I think his forehand can improve a bit but otherwise I think Holger plays really well. That’s why I was surprised that he made these mistakes.
@@2MinuteTennis To be honest I haven't seen him doing these kind of mistakes on high slow balls in matches and I have watched him quite a lot. Sometimes he surprises me with how early he can take the ball when he is confident, other times he is a bit more hesitant. I guess it will all click together soon, he is still very young and his full potential hasn't been unlocked yet.
Stellar performance!
