Martin, great flight! It look a little busy especially being a single pilot in the cockpit...however, you did great handling it all. Thanks for sharing. I look forward the rest of Sun' N' Fun with you! :-) Don/NE Ohio
Excellent arrival Martin! I can't wait to watch your videos from the event! You have a way of bringing everything to life. I love that photo with you, Kim , Kriss and Kev.
It was great to see those guys and gals in Lakeland. The longer I fly, the more I realize aviation is about people more than it is about airplanes. And SNF / AirVenture are our family reunions, if you will. - Martin
@@martinpauly Yes, I was in the back, on your right in the corner, at your last talk on Saturday about making aviation videos (incognito -- not wearing any UAL1kFlyer swag, and without my usual entourage of supermodels). I took a bunch of notes and have already patronized some of your suggested gear. The talk was outstanding. The time you spend is apparent and appreciated.
Well Martin looks like you and I have the same dream plane. I did enjoy the atc banter "70TB do you want to cancel in the air or on the ground? I need another 1000ft lower to cancel in the air, 70TB descend and maintain 3000." :) Great video as always looking forward to the next ones.
@@martinpauly thank to you 😎 I end up selling my GNS and getting IFD 540. I love it better than GTN 750 😊 Avidyne was supposed to release a new softener 10.3 last year with new features and improvement. Wondering if you’ve heard anything?
@@MooneyM20J I hope you'll love your IFD as much as I love mine, Shawn. Avidyne was talking about version 10.3 in Lakeland at Sun 'n Fun and talked about a release later in 2021. From the features and improvements they mentioned, this does indeed look like a nice upgrade. I suspect we'll hear more details at AirVenture. - Martin
Great opener!!! I was wondering if you were going to cut the corner and fly over water. See you took the safer route :). Can’t wait for the next 6 vids!
Great Video, why did it not seem like total chaos on the radio when you arrived? I listened to a couple other videos from other TH-camrs and I was getting stressed out with them... yours was great, assuming a lot of editing or was it fairly seamless? I am thinking about flying in this year but was Leary of it as Im not up for that stress yet as I am a low time PP
Martin can you explain the reasoning or benefits of having the two IFD’s in the panel. I’m currently VFR only but considering getting my IFR ticket. I would need to upgrade some avionics to do so. I would love to hear why so many pilots seem to install two. Thanks Joe
Hi Joel. Good question; especially since the free IFD100 app turns an iPad into a second, larger screen to control the IFD, view maps and make flight plan edits etc. The reason I still added a second IFD is a little bit comfort, but mostly for redundancy. If the sole IFD (or a GTN, or a GNS) fails, you lose GPS navigation, VOR navigation, and VHF radio communications. Especially on an IFR flight, losing all that at one - unlikely as it is - would be a bad day. Having said that, we all decide for ourselves how much redundancy we want and how much risk is acceptable (even my dual IFD setup could fail), so there is nothing really wrong with having just one IFD - especially if you have a simple VHF NAV/COM radio as a backup. Best regards, Martin
I came in am early Friday IFR, after an overnight in Gainesville.....actually an anticlimax not the fly the VFR procedure. Hope you got your plane cleane, my A36 has never been so dusty/dirty!
Hi Andy. My Bonanza was dirty, very dirty. Funny thing is I flew home through heavy rain, but it only cleaned the leading edges. Most of the wing I still had to clean by hand after I got home. Great to meet you in person in Lakeland! - Martin
Why not stay IFR? Assuming that was a serious question, David: it is clearly spelled out in the Sun 'n Fun NOTAM that above certain weather minimums IFR flights are expected to cancel IFR and follow the Lake Parker visual arrival. Lakeland couldn't handle the traffic volume they handle if they had to apply IFR separation. I'll be in Oshkosh - see you there! - Martin
@@davidrumolo422 You'll find very similar language and instructions in the AirVenture NOTAM, David. IFR even requires a slot (reservation) for Oshkosh, so it's even more stringent than Lakeland in that regard. - Martin
Yes, less than 100 days away. You may want to consider going to KMCW the Thursday night before Oshkosh; usually they have around 150 planes and a BBQ, lots of warbird and other historic airplanes. I'll head over to KOSH from there on Friday morning. - Martin
