I absolutely despise the tribalism in gaming culture over PlayStation versus Xbox (or PC for that matter). There was a time when Xbox was new and PS had a near 10-year head start where the argument could be made that Xbox is an inferior product, but 20 years later the gap has closed. Xbox has matured into a respectable platform with compelling reasons to buy in. Both are solid platforms.

I have to say when Microsoft put Phil Spencer in charge of gaming it was a master stroke. I find him very smart and very calm, he knows what he is talking about and that self confidence is contagious.. Microsoft is in great hands.

This interviewer asked all the right questions, and I commend him for not sugarcoating and beating around the bush in regard to the harsh reality of the Xbox brand’s perception and success this generation with the Xbox One overall. However, he’s got a very condescending manner of speaking and presenting his questions. Almost like there’s an entitled and unapologetically arrogant air about him. Very off putting and experience breaking in what would have otherwise been a really great interview. Props to Phil for keeping it professional and very light.

@Jeff V that's what I'm talking about... they were struggling financially plus the lawsuit. With new console generation they could also optimise cryengine to work best on their hardware. It's wasted potential but I guess if it was possible they would do it. Maybe the lawsuit with Amazon is a barrier here...
As someone who has owned all the consoles, I'd say that XBOX definitely has its challenges and needs to pump out some quality first party content to rival Sony's, but getting Phil in front of the players definitely helps such as how he handles an interview like this professionally and doesn't get drawn into mudslinging or letting the negative tone of the interviewer get him flustered. There is a passion for games in him that seems genuine and gives us gamers confidence in the brand for the long haul. Besides the XBOX One X, which made us all sit back and say, "Woah, Microsoft is serious about console gaming", I'd say that Phil himself is the next best thing that has helped the brand with the core gaming audience.

It was a tought interview, but very clarifying. It's so much better than those other medias. I see media sites like gaming informer just putting the click bait title, instead of bringing the full content. It's completely out of reality. And sadly, Xbox fans falls in these traps without seeing it.

It’s also a horribly misleading question and clearly edited answer. Phil has been clear on his role in leading to the Xbox One's initial failure. But since then he's risen from a general manager of their internal studios to directly reporting to the CEO of Microsoft.
This interview is amazing, Competition is good for gaming, I hope Phil understands that. Sony and Nintendo are not Phils buddy. They want to destroy Xbox in sales and see Phil lose his position.

He asked difficult questions, pressed for straight answers, kept the interviewee on track and kept the interviewee talking. He did a good job. An interviewer is not their to kiss the interviewee's arse.

And these questions were nothing Phil hasn't addressed to the public before besides maybe the stadia question. But That is a subjective point. The interviewer routinely cut Phil off, interrutped him, talked over him, made odd noises while Phil was speaking. These things I'd argue are less subjective than difficulty of questions and keeping the conversation on topic.

People say that, but I don't want to game on a PC. I want to play on a console on the television because I like that experience. If you like to game on PC sure, but if you like to game on consoles, then no.

You can hire all these studios but console needs games for that platform to sell. Playstation and Nintendo has games but Xbox has what exactly...Another Gears, another Forza... Also i know what people will say about Playstation and Nintendo. But Sony has games coming exclusive to their console or first to PS4 such as: Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, Medievil, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Concrete Genie, The Last of Us 2 and probably more in development. Nintendo has Breath of the Wild 2, Pokemon Sword and Shield, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Astral Chain, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, Luigi’s Mansion 3 and more. Xbox has Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Gears 5, Halo Infinite, Battletoads, Age of Empires II Definitive Edition with indies exclusive to Xbox but more if not all games are coming to PC so Xbox One the console has no exclusives that are strictly made for Xbox one. Nintendo and Sony has games strictly made for their consoles. I understand what Microsoft is trying to do but streaming games is not the future that will shape the industry, it will only hurt the industry. Now keep in mind, Nintendo is bringing games back as a remake or making sequels to games we been asking for a LONG time coming. So i think they get a small pass on the sequels that are being made. Sony has their 1st party studios already working on New IPs for PS5 and finishing up games that started on PS4.
As somebody who owns all consoles, I can definitely agree with the above. If I were only on Xbox, I'd be pretty disappointed in the 1st party output by Xbox, because it's literally just Halo, Gears, Forza when it comes to the bigger titles. I really hope that these newly acquired studios don't work on existing IP's and come up with their own ideas instead or at least very old IP's that haven't seen a title for quite a while. Ideally, we'd get a wide variety of game genres, while at the same time the games actually release in a state, where you don't have to wait months for meaningful content, like in the case of Sea of Thieves, which is now a much better game, but since the first impression wasn't that good, people already moved away.
Totally agree with you. Microsoft needs to really step their AAA output up because none of their plans will work greatly without some compelling new ips. The biggest issues Microsoft has now is time and hype.
As a long time fan of the brand, pretty nice to get some statements like that admission about this last gen. Even with the efforts they put in to make the console something to be proud of after the initial announcement, I personally lost faith in the direction their established franchises had taken, and even originals like Recore launched with content promised at launch MIA for a year until it had a major update. At this point I only want Series X because they game they've talked it up for Backwards Compatibility means it's just marginally better than the Xbox One S I already own for playing games (graphics aren't a major selling point to me but I understand its importance). I dunno, interviewer kinda met what I wish I could say to Phil.
Meanwhile all gamers want is great exclusive games making the purchace of Xbox one X worthwhile. Mine is gathering dust while my PS4 Pro is used daily, I wonder why?

1st time checking out this channel. Dont really like this interviewer! He doesnt seem genuine, hes seems real short in his response / inquiries and it feels as though hes talking down to Phil.
And he didn't even dress up or try to look good for it either. Then he puts Phil down a bunch like you said. At one point calling their investing in servers and growing as a service rather than short term profit as something a start up would say. Like okay bro...what's your job again?

I see media sites like gaming informer just putting the click bait title, instead of bringing the full content. It's completely out of reality. And sadly, Xbox fans falls in these traps without seeing it.
There are loads of other interviews that have asked the same questions. There really wasn't anything new said in this interview if you have been paying attention.

It’s also a horribly misleading question and clearly edited answer. Phil has been clear on his role in leading to the Xbox One's initial failure. But since then he's risen from a general manager of their internal studios to directly reporting to the CEO of Microsoft.

This interview is amazing, Competition is good for gaming, I hope Phil understands that. Sony and Nintendo are not Phils buddy. They want to destroy Xbox in sales and see Phil lose his position.
Tekno I think he does. He did say they compete for time and money of each gamer. It just isn’t always in the traditional locations anymore. It’s not always on Xbox or PS4. Truth is, if you’re playing Minecraft on a PS4, MS is still winning, and that’s the point.

Whoever this interviewer is needs to...practice interviewing. I can't recall seeing such a bad interviewer in a professional setting.

He kind of reminds of the interview that was so rude to RDJ that Robert walked out the the interview early.
He asked difficult questions, pressed for straight answers, kept the interviewee on track and kept the interviewee talking. He did a good job. An interviewer is not their to kiss the interviewee's arse.
@@stopthetories I don't think the questions were that difficult, they were answered pretty easily. And these questions were nothing Phil hasn't addressed to the public before besides maybe the stadia question. But That is a subjective point. The interviewer routinely cut Phil off, interrutped him, talked over him, made odd noises while Phil was speaking. These things I'd argue are less subjective than difficulty of questions and keeping the conversation on topic.

The interview was informed which is the point of interviews. Other then that the profitability of xbox question/scene was awkward. I would say when the next gen hits next year, yes! Why? Well cause what xbox is offering it's consumers compare to sony and google. To me it seems like Xbox is giving you a combo of both and without VR lols

You can hire all these studios but console needs games for that platform to sell. Playstation and Nintendo has games but Xbox has what exactly...Another Gears, another Forza...
Also i know what people will say about Playstation and Nintendo. But Sony has games coming exclusive to their console or first to PS4 such as: Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, Medievil, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Concrete Genie, The Last of Us 2 and probably more in development.
Nintendo has Breath of the Wild 2, Pokemon Sword and Shield, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Astral Chain, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, Luigi’s Mansion 3 and more.
Xbox has Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Gears 5, Halo Infinite, Battletoads, Age of Empires II Definitive Edition with indies exclusive to Xbox but more if not all games are coming to PC so Xbox One the console has no exclusives that are strictly made for Xbox one. Nintendo and Sony has games strictly made for their consoles. I understand what Microsoft is trying to do but streaming games is not the future that will shape the industry, it will only hurt the industry.
Now keep in mind, Nintendo is bringing games back as a remake or making sequels to games we been asking for a LONG time coming. So i think they get a small pass on the sequels that are being made. Sony has their 1st party studios already working on New IPs for PS5 and finishing up games that started on PS4.
As somebody who owns all consoles, I can definitely agree with the above. If I were only on Xbox, I'd be pretty disappointed in the 1st party output by Xbox, because it's literally just Halo, Gears, Forza when it comes to the bigger titles.
I really hope that these newly acquired studios don't work on existing IP's and come up with their own ideas instead or at least very old IP's that haven't seen a title for quite a while. Ideally, we'd get a wide variety of game genres, while at the same time the games actually release in a state, where you don't have to wait months for meaningful content, like in the case of Sea of Thieves, which is now a much better game, but since the first impression wasn't that good, people already moved away.
Totally agree with you. Microsoft needs to really step their AAA output up because none of their plans will work greatly without some compelling new ips. The biggest issues Microsoft has now is time and hype.

As a long time fan of the brand, pretty nice to get some statements like that admission about this last gen. Even with the efforts they put in to make the console something to be proud of after the initial announcement, I personally lost faith in the direction their established franchises had taken, and even originals like Recore launched with content promised at launch MIA for a year until it had a major update. At this point I only want Series X because they game they've talked it up for Backwards Compatibility means it's just marginally better than the Xbox One S I already own for playing games (graphics aren't a major selling point to me but I understand its importance).
