Metro Manila is a mix of everything. Intramuros is the old Spanish fort built back in 1600s. Chinatown nearby is the oldest Chinatown in the world. Then there’s the ultra modern BGC, Mall of Asia, try the Ortigas center area, try to go buffet at Spiral. Then for course there’s the islands. Go North and it’s colder cause it higher. Lots to see around the country. Lots of foreign vloggers now call Philippines home. English is not a problem at all. And people are really friendly and hospitable.

Well done, I've been traveling and living in the Philippines for over 30 years and yes the local people are friendly . There's lots of armed security guards here and I definitely feel safer around them. There was a lot more trouble here years ago and I saw a few shootings. The security guards are cheap to hire and they are very helpful I have found

    • @solkalibri1376

Yes, cheap. You can hire one to guard you as you explore around in the rundown parts of the city. They are armed with a shotgun.

in terms of ultra modern and number of tall skyscrapers MANILA is Way Ahead than Bangkok. for example BGC vs. the Bangkok CBD. its unbeatable. its just that Manila is way behind in terms of advance and moderm Transpotations of Bangkok. i been to both cities and they are similar but, what i love the most about Thailand is the rich culture and foods many options phi🇵🇭 has good food as well but its just depends to the peole taste yet, the beaches and isands of the ph🇵🇭 to be honest is unbeatable.

    Welcome to the Philippines 🇵🇭
The most economical way to tour the city is via the LRT & MRT get a Beep card and wiz through BUT travel between 9am to 3pm to avoid trainmagedon.
Also, research the P2P buses, they keep a regular time tabe and you can go to the suburbs for an average of 110 pesos. At Greenbelt-1 you can catch a bus to Alabang Town Center, sadly you won't be able to tour Ayala Alabang which is a nice upscale subdivision.
Since you're in Makati, search McKinley Road - the most expensive residential street possibly in the county. Take a walk towards BGC or look for the BGC bus teinal. The BGC is a newer development, stroll down High Street at night when it isn't raining. Enjoy👍

    • @mikev.5845
      @mikev.5845 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Re: MRT, Ayala Station is connected to SM Makati which is linked to Glorietta.
      * The end of the South line connects to LRT Taft, taking the LRT to Monumento will allow you to pass old Manila (National Museum, Luneta Park, the Walled City, China Town)
      * Taking the MRT north line you'll pass Ortigas (2nd CBD after Makati), Araneta Center Cubao, Trinoma mall is the last station - just look for the pedestrian walkway to head back.
At Araneta Center Cubao there's another train, LRT-2 which connects to LRT-1, not much to see along that route but if you're adventurous why not.
All trains honor the Beep card, just re-load when needed. G'luck.

As a regular vistor to MNL, you got done over with the taxi - don't worry it's common. One time i got a taxi out of the airport and once he understood that i would not be getting screwed over (take their details to report them), he dropped me off just outside the airport! FFS then i got another taxi, same thing, but this one was nice enough to drop me off on Roxas boulevard, where i know i can get a bus to QC. I then got a local bus with all my bags to QC - FFS. Did not pay for any Taxi, but they always try it on... No issues to the airport, always from the airport as you are fresh meat.

Most of the foreigners visiting Manila are usually gathered around BGC area, in Taguig City, Philippines. So far, that specific place is the most modern city in Southeast Asia. Try to tour around there, especially at night, and you'll definitely come across many foreigners.

its a ridiculous to think that most foreigners going to Manila go to BGC for what point ?for example foreigner came from US, Canada or Australia. which what they see in NY. I'd say Singapore is the most modern city in Southeast Asia, not BGC. But maybe in the next decade, it may come close to Singapore.
But to me personally, I hope the government doesn't just focus on one urban area, or several, when it comes to development. It would be great if the rest of Metro Manila would look like BGC, Makati, Ortigas, etc. And other cities in the Philippines would be develop in similar ways too.

@@nielk799 People travel for many personal reasons. Some like the adventure aspects of travel, going to rural places, enjoying nature, doing outdoor activities and sports, etc. Some like a leisurely approach like spas, resorts, nature walks, quiet beach resorts, etc. Some like to travel and not go far from their comfort zone and conveniences, so they stay in modern cities and just shop, dine, stay at hotels, window shop, food trips, etc. I don't find anything wrong or bad if people only want to stay in BGC.
Sure you can assume they're less adventurous, but there's nothing wrong with that. Not every trip is about going out of your comfort zone, hard-core adventuring, going to the most unfamiliar locations, etc., nor does everyone desire those things when they travel. People saved uo thousands of their currency to t4avel to an unfamiliar place, so let them enjoy their travels/vacation the way they want to. To each their own! 😉

@@alistairt7544 how can you say so? the difference between BGC and singapore is that Singapore is an island nation surrounded by ocean and way larger than BGC with advance transportation. while BGC is a landlock and only a small district of MANILA but, in terms of cleanliness, urban design to skyscrapers BGC could beat singapore. so how can you say that it takes decade to looks BGC closed to SINGAPORE lol. even Kuala Lumpur is way Better than Singapore with numerous Skyscrapers than singapore.

Proper train stations should be at the periphery of the CBD not in front of the prime areas like Bangkok. One AYala Center, an integrated land terminal, best describes the ideal setup for a pedestrian-friendly CBD. It will soon be connected to the MRT station and to the elevated walkways of Ayala Center CBD where buses, taxis, AUVs, and jeepneys could be booked online.

As a Filipino, my number-one advice for foreigners coming here to the Philippines is to AVOID USING TAXIS altogether. They are very stubborn and greedy and a majority of them are just not honest about their jobs. Instead, I suggest every foreigner to install the app called GRAB for both TRANSPORTATION and DELIVERY services. In Grab, you will instantly know how much you have to pay when a route has been established without any extra charges and you can use electronic payment for it to prevent the hassle of handing out cash. I know Grab can still be a bit expensive but it really gets things done. The other alternative is to use public transport, which can be cheap as $0.20, but I don't recommend it to foreigners because admittingly, it's not entirely safe.

I like how you always try to present a balanced view, like on the use of security guards here. Actually, the overall crime index rate of PH is not too far off from that of Thailand's, and we are among the safer countries in Southeast Asia. However, crime here is a lot more concentrated in Metro Manila. But it gets progressively safer as you travel outside the metro.
About stray animals, sadly there are actually quite a lot here too, just not in those areas that are in your video.
You Irish right? In Panglao Island in Bohol, there's an Irish pub owned by an Irish guy. Try to visit it. The beach there is an amazing turquoise blue with rich marine life like dolphins and whalesharks. And in Bohol's mainland, visit the famous Chocolate Hills and the Tarsiers - world's second smallest primate. And take the Loboc River Cruise too. :)

Makati was the most advanced and the first corporate city in the ASEAN Singapore is a newbee. Makati was developed in the 50s, the neighboring countries copied Makati in many ways, including Bangkok which was a big slum up until the late 70s and 80s. Lee Kwan Yew copied many ideas from Ferdinand E Marcos Sr and you can find videos where he said so. Indeed, the Philippines was already very advanced but corruption and US meddling put the country into disarray. The US wanted a big chunk of the Philippines, thinking that it was still their colony.

"fishes" I'll keep that in mind. Great green spaces. Obviously police and everyone else values tourists. Thanks - yes Sydney has many beautiful spaces. Yes Samui is expensive - I find Hua Hin and BKK much cheaper. Grabs pretty good. Bolts cheaper but less reliable - when it rains suddenly no ones available. Your right I don't normally see the police in Samui. I would often walk past the police station in Bo Put and it appeared to be closed.Enoy the rest of your trip.
