There are also large solar sterling engines that are pretty efficient they will uses cases like helium in them instead of air also etc... for the working gas. Up to around 25kw etc...

thank you for this, i was told the starting process was difficult but after watching this it looks pretty straightforward and obvious if you understand how a stirling engine works. when you preheat it you want the displacer to be at the bottom, are there marks that you line up to ensure that? i'm guessing the pull rope doesn't take much effort? what is the maximum wattage you can get out of this without stalling it?
Hi Marzsit The position of the crankshaft is not known to me, would be good if the displacer is below. There is no mention of this in the manual. The maximum electrical power is 180 watts and 50Hz. The speed 1500 r/min is controlled by a centrifugal brake, this means that he constantly destroys energy via this brake

I think this is the first "high" rpm Stirling I've seen that hasn't made a lot of noise. I almost started to believe it wasn't possible to make... so this was kind of an eye opener to me. (Most home built attempts _as well_ as professional ones have been quite noisy. The only ones somewhat silent have been the old, slow machines from earlier days...)
By rapid change of pressures you get implodation, think of the sound of an old helicopter, boom, boom .......this engine has a pressure in the crankcase of 9.6 Bar ,through which imploding less violent

The entire inside of the engine is under pressure (130PSI), this means that there are more air molecules per unit volume, because of this there is more expansion and shrinkage of the air. This allows you to make a more compact machine. Rik
Awesome, I was wondering because I want to make one, but wasn't sure exactly how to make a good seal around the crankshaft to pressurize it. Is it common for a sterling engine to have an on board compressor to compensate for leaks. Asking, because well there never really has been a commercial one available. Been thinking about making a larger one out of a small block in case you were wondering. Will probably have to make a custom oil pan for those types of pressures though, and quite possibly custom seals and gaskets to.
The crankcase must of course be strong enough, to handle this pressure. In the car air conditioning there is a seal in the compressor where the axle comes out. The oil is Shell turbo 27 or 33

Human Dignity As far as I know, stirling engines are more efficient than any internal combustion engine. They just can't change speed nearly as fast as an IC engine, so they aren't suitable for vehicles
To be precise, 180 real Watts, This burner burns on kerosene, and as you can see: quite a hassle at startup, But that makes it so special as a collector item. It is made in the country where I live, the Netherlands

A vertical pipe is connected to the fuel, At right angles to it is a tube with air pressure, 0.9 Bar, This horizontal air flow creates a negative pressure in the vertical pipe, This causes the fuel to be sucked in, creating an air-fuel mist, this then burns in the head of the engine

Dadurch dass er einen eigenen Kompressor hat, der wenn er einmal läuft selber Druck erzeugt hält er den Brenner am Leben.
Yep. NASA actually built a great Stirling engine/truck back in the 60's or 70's. They even gave you the plans for free. The plans may still be available.

What's up with all these "presenters" of various exotic engines on youtube and their vow of silence? What good is a 1-3 mins video of some vibrating box without a single word for explanation? You do realize our x-ray vision can't penetrate the engine enclosing ... especially thru youtube? ;) It's a shame especially in this case since Stirling engines are real thing and what's interesting is how to build and improve an efficient one.

Isn't the biggest problem with a Stirling engine, being. That as soon as you put a load on it. It dies?... They freely rev at silly numbers. But don't really have any mechanical power. In other words. They are extremely inefficient...

Yeah a small generator, I think the idea was for rural houses to be able to use a radio and maybe a light bulb. They were going to start putting these into mass production but only around 150 were made before the project was canned.
It's a heat engine. It uses plain ol heat to power the generator. The pump he is using is to increase the efficiency by allowing more air to be heated, inside the engine

The Germans also did work with this & you can see a very big Stirling engine in the Deutches Museum in Munchen , built by MAN for use in a submarine.... My point is that this technology exist & is available to the military, but kept away from the civilian population. Stirling engines could power our cars, produce heat & power for our homes in a much more clean & economic way, allowing us to go off grid & get rid of utilities.. Because Stirling engines would endanger the monopoly of power companies, they are not allowed into the public domain... For the same reason, fuel cells are also suppressed...
@@jandoerlidoe3412 my friend, the Sterling engine cannot defy the laws of physics, the pressure involved is so low that it would need to spin 100x faster than the equivalent ic engine to do similar work but unfortunately materials with thermal properties that would allow this do not exist. The sub engine is very interesting but just a 100 shp genset supplying sufficient power for lights and coms, nowhere near enough for meaningful propulsion or oxygen production like on proper subs which is why they rely on chemical co2 scrubbers and liquid oxygen in bottles, pretty Micky mouse and endurance is measured in weeks and not decades.
@@dingledooley9283 The Stirling engines we know are just mere toys... the military have other stuff & technology that allow for much higher pressures & temperatures....the steam engine in the Enginion steam car did use ceramic pistons & liners, making it fit for much higher steam pressure and temp than any conventional steam engine could withstand... There even exist classic petrol car engines with these ceramic pistons & liners, that do not need cooling, and as such have a much higher thermal efficiency than the stuff we use in the public domain... Yet none are available for the public...
@@jandoerlidoe3412 I remember reading about a US experiment for a low heat signature engine with ceramic internals, I can't imagine what it sounds like. Increasing the mean pressure as our man does in the video increases the heat transfer rate and subsequent change in force applied to the pistons throughout the cycle but the change is less the faster the engine runs, and the effort is very low hence the inability of the swedes to use it as main propulsion instead of the two big mtu diesels, you'd need a Sterling engine the size of a lorry to power a car or a Sterling engine the size of a container ship to proppel a sub.

Swedish submarises use stirling cycle engines for underwater operation due to their quiet operation. Also the cold see water is excellent for cooling

how much influence does load have on the RPM and noise level? How man Watts can it deliver?

It looks like it somehow does and I am assuming that you have to check the oil with it depressurized?

КПД низкий, мощность слабая. Как я понял движок крутит генератор и мужик включил одну лампочку...

Wir hatten so einen auch mal. Das ist ein mit Flüssigbrennstoff, vorzugsweise Petroleum, betriebener Stirlinggenerator. Sprich so eine Art Campingkocher beheizt einen Stirlingmotor der dann mittels Generator Strom erzeugt. Dadurch dass er einen eigenen Kompressor hat, der wenn er einmal läuft selber Druck erzeugt hält er den Brenner am Leben.
Yep. NASA actually built a great Stirling engine/truck back in the 60's or 70's. They even gave you the plans for free. The plans may still be available.

Просто рабочее давление не атмосферное, при атмосферном был бы движек сам больше скорее всего а КПД зависит от разницы температур нагревателя и холодильника

Isn't the biggest problem with a Stirling engine, being. That as soon as you put a load on it. It dies?... They freely rev at silly numbers. But don't really have any mechanical power. In other words. They are extremely inefficient...
They are very fuel efficient but low power density for their size and weight as far as I know.

Yeah a small generator, I think the idea was for rural houses to be able to use a radio and maybe a light bulb. They were going to start putting these into mass production but only around 150 were made before the project was canned.

It's a heat engine. It uses plain ol heat to power the generator. The pump he is using is to increase the efficiency by allowing more air to be heated, inside the engine

Stirling engines are used to power submarines, and even this old unit proves that Stirling engines that can do useful work exists...
Yet none of this is available on the market....
A Stirling engine can be used to make a combined heat - energy unit to power a house; with this kind of engine we could become independent of the grit - and safe tons of money...
Enginion ; a subsidiary of Volkswagen had developed such a unit; the steam cell, They also developed a steam car giving clean exhaust & superb power & fuel consumption , having a 3 cylinder steam engine with ceramic pistons & liners..... there where even plans to fit such a engine into the new Skoda Fabia... Nicolas Hayek (of watchmaking fame ) was into this project... & Nicolas died unexpectedly in june 2010 ( 82 y/o )
Yet, it did not happen... the Fabia got a mainstream internal combustion engine...
None of these remarkable inventions saw the light of day... they just did disappear.... even Enginion itself did disappear....
Truth is that these technologies are being suppressed to safeguard the monopolies of multinational corporations....we are forced to use obsolete technologies for the profit of the few - and governments are complicit in this...

@@dingledooley9283 No: nuclear submarines are real ( so are the classic diesel -electric one's ) but besides these technologies there are submarines who are powered with Stirling engines - a Swedish specialty..
The Germans also did work with this & you can see a very big Stirling engine in the Deutches Museum in Munchen , built by MAN for use in a submarine....
My point is that this technology exist & is available to the military, but kept away from the civilian population.
Stirling engines could power our cars, produce heat & power for our homes in a much more clean & economic way, allowing us to go off grid & get rid of utilities.. Because Stirling engines would endanger the monopoly of power companies, they are not allowed into the public domain...
For the same reason, fuel cells are also suppressed...
@@jandoerlidoe3412 my friend, the Sterling engine cannot defy the laws of physics, the pressure involved is so low that it would need to spin 100x faster than the equivalent ic engine to do similar work but unfortunately materials with thermal properties that would allow this do not exist.
The sub engine is very interesting but just a 100 shp genset supplying sufficient power for lights and coms, nowhere near enough for meaningful propulsion or oxygen production like on proper subs which is why they rely on chemical co2 scrubbers and liquid oxygen in bottles, pretty Micky mouse and endurance is measured in weeks and not decades.
@@dingledooley9283 The Stirling engines we know are just mere toys... the military have other stuff & technology that allow for much higher pressures & temperatures....the steam engine in the Enginion steam car did use ceramic pistons & liners, making it fit for much higher steam pressure and temp than any conventional steam engine could withstand...
There even exist classic petrol car engines with these ceramic pistons & liners, that do not need cooling, and as such have a much higher thermal efficiency than the stuff we use in the public domain...
Yet none are available for the public...
@@jandoerlidoe3412 I remember reading about a US experiment for a low heat signature engine with ceramic internals, I can't imagine what it sounds like.
Increasing the mean pressure as our man does in the video increases the heat transfer rate and subsequent change in force applied to the pistons throughout the cycle but the change is less the faster the engine runs, and the effort is very low hence the inability of the swedes to use it as main propulsion instead of the two big mtu diesels, you'd need a Sterling engine the size of a lorry to power a car or a Sterling engine the size of a container ship to proppel a sub.
