A smoother translation and maybe a slower build from that disturbing hospital into the Lovecraftian vibe would have been nice, but I am glad to see the full version of this. Framing the player as an outer god, the protagonist's potential savior, was a good way to cap off this experience.

Because, the previous moments were full of tension and a "sudden death" type mechanic. So, as soon as you leave the place, when something pops up like that, you are still dealing with the previous tension and you can not avoid going "UWAH!"

To be honest even though I'm a jumpy person, I was focusing on what obstacles was going to happen next that I didn't pay that much attention to it, but as the player I can see why manly got a bit startled there because of your comment.

As easy as it'd be to make a Cthulu/tentacle joke, I did want to say that Lovecraftian content can/do have potential for great games. Would love to see something exploring non-euclidean lovecraftian for a horror/adventure game (though if there is one out already, I'd love to try and play it)
You know something funny? All real life geometry is non-euclidean. Non-euclidean geometry is literally just geometry not confined to a flat plane, meaning every single structure on earth is non-euclidean. Lovecraft just had basically no understanding of the concepts he was so close mindedly terrified of. Still made really interesting stories, but he was a small minded coward to his core; said small minded cowardice just happened to come with a very active imagination and verbous vocabulary. Still amongst my favorite settings though and I fully agree that I'd love to see some good lovecraftian horror games!

While that’s technically true, real world geometry is close enough to a flat plane most of the time that it rarely becomes a factor, (to my knowledge particularly large bridges are the only things that you actually need to take the curvature of the earth into consideration for.) so for all intents and purposes we use euclidian geometry…

Tbh I think Stygian and cat in a box did the whole lovecraftian horror twist better. Maybe it’s because they had a somewhat more consistent tone throughout

Cat in the Box did cosmic horror, whereas this was literally a cthulhu story, I wouldn't call it cosmic horror as much as cosmic sci fi with horror aspects.

I kinda think the game did this in order that the player immediately did the wrong thing lol. Kinda like Sans talking about blue stop signs.
I do hope more people take inspiration form Lovecraft that isn't isolated to C'thulhu.
Looks to be a well executed game though, dealing with things far beyond your mental grasp is always an intriguing concept.
Yeah there's some really wacky, great shit to take inspiration from. I still have more to read, but I really enjoyed the short story where a machine makes you see the world for what it is, all space filled with creatures, even the "air" you breathed in. And they were not particularly happy for you to see them (or maybe the machine made you visible to them as well).

The Secret World MMO, relaunched as a F2P shared-world RPG under Secret World Legends, combines Lovecraft, supernatural beings and conspiracy theories into a very well written game chunk full of interesting lore.
I liked the implication in ending 3 that the player was actually an outer god who opposed Cthulhu.
As long as they don't go for Lovecraft-inspired cat names...(is that still vaguely funny or have we as the internet collectively chewed all the flavour out of it?)
there are 2 types of Divine Beings in this world, the ones that observe, and the ones who want power like it said in the start of the game
You (the player) is a observer Divine Being, and observes the story of stella and decides what kind of she will have and is entertained by it.
Cthulhu is the other type of Divine Being, and wants to destroy the world of humans, but was unsuccessful due to being sleeping because of the sacrifices.
A true savior ending (ED 1) - There is no real savior in here, what the name may refer to is how you helped save the descendant of Divine Beings (the "True" Leaders)
False savior ending (ED2) - This ending may refer to the fact Stella became a "Savior" to humanity without wanting to and how all of her story was in vain as she died in the end
Savior, of a little girl (ED3) - This ending refers to You (the player), and how you chose to protect the little girl (Stella) and pursit the truth of her being, killing both "villains" (the descendant and Dr.J) and saving the only innocent person in there.
while its not said if the divine beings are sealed still after the sacrifice of the descendant and dr.J at the end, i imagine that when that orb killed them, it also completed Dr.J's research and saving the world where the little girl lives,

It feels like demo was more menacing than the rest of the game

As a horror genre its score is slowly falling but as an adventure genre it is kinda okay

I like how they use 4th wall breaking as a twist. They actually explained why she is weirdly different from others(i.e. players do weird stuff) and the fact that the endings are equally both evil and good. True Savior ending is bad because it will end all which includes the suffering, false savior involves the sacrificies of many in order to sustain the humanity, the savior of a girl ending is ending all those results, giving more possibilities; will she die of coldness and starvation? will she become one of those apocalyptic survivors? no one knows because we cant control her anymore now that the controller, the tentactle sea orchin, got obliterated alongside the "savior" of humanity. Feels great being titled as a higher being.

So... evil Dr J Cup's sacrifices didn't work. Our little MC Stella turned out to be one of the true rulers who will triumph. On the plus side, there will be no need for sacrifices done by the over-endowed stupid scientist! And 'you, the player' helped an elder god or you helped an innocent girl go free. Nice 4th wall break - now there's a _~*plot!_
I liked this game purely because of the schlock factor which was only enhanced by the somewhat shaky translation. Good fun!

Uh, no. Dr J *wasn't* evil, and her sacrifices *did* work. In fact, ending 3 shows that her theories were right on the money all along, but she just couldn't figure out the very last step because it relied on the prophet and she didn't know he existed.

actually i wrote them because it is true and also i want to show my respect to the creators of the game if they ever see this comment and also show my respect to manly because once you have played a game, you most likely wouldn’t look at someone else play the same thing you did, but to show my support and respect for manly, i did actually come back and watch his video after playing the game.
finally got around yo playing the game, it was really good and i really enjoyed it. Although i found a bug (at the place where you get the keycard and if you get the hammer after that, and you enter the room to use the hammer on, and if you go back instead of right, then you lose the keycard and also you cannot enter the room with the broken wall again and you have to restart at a save) it was still fun. took me around 3 hours because i got stuck at this one puzzle part

yeah,the early parts of the game were definitely the best. the atmosphere and the weird stuff in that lab were exciting (especially the random smile room lol)
for me,the game took a big nose dive when I realized that all major characters who got their own picture were anime women with big booba... it kinda took me out from there,especially after seeing Dr.J

Funny you mention it looking and feeling very much like an RPG Maker game because during certain parts the game literally uses RPG Maker assets (Like in the cave where you get chased by the cyclops fish monster). So maybe the game started as an RPG Maker game and then they decided to change engines.
I dunno if the game was made in RPG Maker at the end of the day, but sometimes people go nuts with it and make something really extraordinary so who knows?~

edit: I should have known someone else would have already made that observation, lol. Maybe the 'J' stands for Jade?
A few things I didn't get, even after rewatching the endings: What was that large heart in the capsule to the left as you enter Dr. J's room? Is that the thing that's powering the 'barrier'? Whose heart is that? Why did the barrier machine explode in the third ending? If the barrier is destroyed in the third ending, doesn't that mean Cthulhu can break through into our world? If the 'savior' creature was needed to actually summon the Cthulhu through, what was the purpose of needing to power the barrier with mutant sacrifices?

Like another RPG games, this had different ending based on what you do towards the end.
If you manage to survive and reach the end, you become Cthulu vessel and destroy humanity. If you die in the final escape, you get caught and get sacrificed as a fine sacrifice, but only to get some time worth of some sacrifices. And if you try enought, you can get a new recipe and take another medicine to get rid of Cthulu parasite, and the researcher in the process.
In two of the endings, there is notion about the player existence, and practically, the whole game is in a dream, being the real world part the one where you finish the game by being hit or reaching the end.
A nice, short and not too much simple game.
When the last doctor arrived at the bad ending Manly paused at the ANIME that was in your face and didn't make dwell on the jokes or the topic.
This is why Manly is my favorite TH-camr.
Hm well in the game they do explain there are "Observer" gods and gods who want to rule, and theres a hierarchy among them. So your not far off we are part of the gods in this universe as we are "observers" But does that mean cthulu is above or below us in this universe? cause in one ending he was released and in the other we intervened and prevented him. then there was that one ending where there was the false savior... which I think due to the girl dying the monster fled our body and into the experiment/sacrifice and ended up being sacrificed to the energy shield..... It's an interesting game either way. x3 ty manly for sharing the vid!
In ending 3 we save the girl and the world from both Chuthulu and Dr. J, and get a thank you from said girl and we're a benevolent God apparently.
