    The methodical way you present everything is very clear and I really enjoy these a lot. Also want to say that adding the little quirky commentary outside of the description of the painting added a lot of value for me. The all-business aspect is incredibly valuable for the presentation, but the little quirky bloopers reel stuff lets us connect to you as a person. Keep up the great work and definitely add these little blooper reels at the end!

    I've been watching a ton of oil videos lately, and thank god I found your videos. I've actually been subscribed for years but I forgot you had oil demos and tutorials lol. I don't know why but the way you teach is so much better and not boring than other "teachers". Please keep uploading oil demos! It's the only medium I haven't got down lol

    That's right, Lisa!! You rock those doily sleeves. Whoever made that comment just got buurned!!! Also, this video was much appreciated. I love working in oils since they don't dry as fast as acrylics but sometimes I feel like I'm in a little over my head. Your advice on glazing has been amazingly helpful. Thank you so much 💜

    Hi Lisa, very new to your channel! Love the way you teach! Only one thing I was wondering, could you do the underpainting in acrylics and have the same effect ? Since they dry so quickly you wouldn’t have to wait overnight? Or it’s not a good idea to mix them ?

  • @apersonal1
    @apersonal1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome video!! I absolutely love your channel! Is there anyway to keep my rose from looking too brown when doing this because my rose looks more like a dying rose then a vibrant red one because of my umber under painting

    • @kathryncastanares525
      @kathryncastanares525 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You probably have already gotten it figured out but if someone else has this same issue, just try letting that layer of burnt umber dry a bit more before adding more colors ans/or just try not to over blend the colors to keep from muddying them up. What ive done instead of using burnt umber, i used a dark violet as my under layer and even if i overblended it didnt make a muddy or dull mess. Even adding some ultramarine or another dark blue will creat that darker violet if blended wirh the red. I am not a professional in oils by any means and this was actually my first time with oils. But just wanted to share what i did. It may turn out different depending on your paint etc.

    Great work Lisa! I love the grisaille/umber study technique and will be utilizing it as I'm just starting in oils with still lifes/florals like these. Question: Do you do all of your pure oils like this as you taught us in the intro apple vid? I ask only because I enjoy traditional landscape painting (and you've inspired me with your surreal landscapes) and it doesn't seem like a tonal study would lend itself as well to that style (I also know that most your surreal work is in acrylic only or oil over acrylic). Thanks for your patience with my rambling!
    Joe

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Joe Maysky No, lots of times I just start in with the color. It just depends on what I think makes more sense for that piece...or what mood I'm in lol.

    OK I have the biggest dumbest question about oil painting that doesn't let me start. when switching colors do I change paint brush and if not what do I do? do I clean the same brush and then paint?

    • @BeckyEnchanted
      @BeckyEnchanted 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Late but you use two water cups, 1 to get dirty the other just to get the little rest off.

    • @lakshyabakshi4955
      @lakshyabakshi4955 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you could also wipe your dirty brushes on paper towel, if your planning on using the same brush with the same colour soon, then change brushes

  • @ryanfreundschuh8924
    @ryanfreundschuh8924 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Help me out what brush did you use for the beginning background the big round one? I have two but when ever I use them it just falls apart I am very gentle with the brushes......

    • @MariaRevArt
      @MariaRevArt 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are referring to the mop brush, I believe she's using a makeup (powder) brush instead of an artist mop brush because it sheds less hair. I know that's what she does with her acrylic paintings at least. It may not be the same for her oils.

    would you be able to paint a rose like that without a reference photo? Just from your mind for all the values?

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bob Loblaw lol heck no! Photorealism requires a photo, it's in the name itself! haha.

    • @InUterusLimbo
      @InUterusLimbo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      hmmm. not even after lots of practice?
      how does Dali do his paintings with objects that look real in them? Does he imagine the values or use values from a real object and just impose it in a painting? sorry for all the questions!
      i would like to paint awesome looking stuff but out of mind not necessarily from examples and make some surreal paintings. Is it mixing in photorealism with random stuff?

    • @ashleymcdaniel-yourneighbo1649
      @ashleymcdaniel-yourneighbo1649 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For surrealism I would use a reference photo for the objects within the painting. Even if I was painting abstract I would opt to use a reference photo.
