    I love to watch these fast videos, and your natural speedy speech packed with information, I have a short attention span and am always busy with a full plate, I can watch your videos, get fully art refreshed, not lost all my morning time, learn ALOT and not have fallen asleep or gotten too lethargic to go on with my morning!

    Oil painting always intimidates me, so I never touch it. However, this is changing my mind.. This piece gives me a magical vibe or something from a dream. Thank you for showing us your process! This video is very informative.

      Oil painting sounds way more difficult than it actually is. Try my apple oil painting lesson first, it makes things so much easier when you understand when to stop and let it dry :D

      Most artists are averted to oils at first, but most of us get over it in time if we are serious about becoming the best we can. If for no other reason, because we dont want to be limited by the mediums we can use.

    Wow, I absolutely LOVE the new editing you've done with labeling supplies and the tiger painting popping up -- amazing and really pulled me in even more to what you're describing. I already felt your tutorials are easy to understand and kept my attention even on the longer patreon videos, and this just makes it even better 😁
    I only use acrylic at the moment but still watch nearly every video you post and plan to venture out to different mediums soon. Thank you so much for sharing your art as well as your techniques -- as a self taught artist, I would have given up out of sheer frustration long ago if not for TH-cam artists like yourself!

    Ho-lee-cow... do I even need to say it? I don’t know whether I wanna throw my painting stuff away in hypnotic amazement, or if I wanna spend my life attempting my visual chopsticks inspired by your astounding visual symphony... If that frog breaks out a violin solo, im gonna cry. Lol To say you are amazing is to call the Grand Canyon a ditch, & that’s not even mentioning the fact that you talk with the ease & zest of a friend TEACHING... I for one, am thankful for the opportunity, and would be dishonest to say I wasn’t intrigued & interested! Hoping this won’t be the last message!
    Impressed,

    I have used the grisaille method, but I found that the process took a lot longer. I liked the depth that it created, but I am experimenting with the single-layer application. This is not entirely accurate because I do use glazing to enhance warmer tones. I know that the old masters used the underpainting, grisaille, etc. and their work is legendary. I do not always have the luxury of time, however. I plan on pursuing my experiment unless you feel it might be detrimental to my process. Thank you for the tip about the Gamvar, I have added it to my wishlist.

    I love the idea of the grisaille method -- one of the things I wished I could do with the colored pencils (which I abandoned in favor of just sticking with my old fave graphite) was exactly what you describe here: separate value and color and solve each problem separately. When I first saw you do that with oil painting, I wished there were a way to do that with a dry medium like pencils.
    Do you know of a way to separate out the process -- value, then color -- with dry media? I do think I might enjoy working in color more if I could do that but I really dislike even the idea of working with wet media.
    ETA: Wait a second, can you do this with Inktense pencils? Can you make a separate value layer with the black pencils and then wet it down and add the color on top? Given how inktense works, would that do it?

    I'm starting with oils and I bought Liquin thinking it was not toxic since it came in a gel like texture (silly me) and although I don't worry about me because I can ventilate the room, I have 3 little chickens (a budgie, a lovebird and a cockatiel) so I worry about them. They don't sleep where I paint but they come here often when Im not painting so I was wondering how long the fumes last in the room so I know it's safe for them or If I just should't use liquin at all.

    One question. What is the easier medium. Oil or acrylics.
    I think of trying out one of it. I would like to have a fast medium.
    Maybe there is not one right answer, but a few opinions would be nice.
    Thanks.

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right, there isn't one right answer. I can say though that when I taught classes in person it was easier for students to get the hang of oil painting than acrylics because the acrylics dry so fast. If you want a really fast medium though it's hard to beat acrylics :)

    Dear Lisa. I have a question. You said in the video that Gamvar can be applied when the painting is dry to the touch. That is not what they say on their website. Where can I find reliable info about this? I'm working on a very important commission and I can't mess it up.

    • @Lachri

    You were talking about how you don't really want a thing layer of paint on a thick layer of paint and you mentioned Bob Ross. So i am curious then how his oil paints differ from yours. Bob always said " thin paint sticks to a thick paint."

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      His paints would lift even when dry when I did certain glazing techniques. They weren't intended for glazing since he painted everything in one day.
