Man I literally walked into my dead end day job this morning asking myself “how am I going to get my photo/video business going?” because there is so much to do like research and making a website and all the nuance that stops me from moving forward. And Ive been stuck for months. And then I run across your video literally 2 days after you made it. This is so encouraging and empowering. Thank you!
Ah dude, perfect timing! I'm sure you'll smash it. For most people I work with, if you get your head down the next few months will be life changing 😊🔥🔥🔥

I cannot underestimate how valuable all the information your videos give me. I'm starting to grow my agency and your advice has been an excellent helping hand along the way, really grateful, man!
wow. i just have to tell you how valuable this video is. Everything youve done here is what i've done but the value is in the confirmation. As a new business owner with little experience and money to start sometimes all you need is to see and know that youre on the right track.... Also, I'll be completely honest and say that I only found your video through my research for thumbnails to inspire me for my latest video. Now you have gained a new subscriber and supporter outta me. Thank you Ross for committing for giving away this game for free. Many blessings to you brother!
This is just what I needed, started early 2023 done a few jobs for adverts, music videos, commercial & product photography, but still felt lost in the sea trying to close clients, or go out of my comfort zone, but since upgrading from the A6400 to the A7Cii, I feel after a year of crafting my editing skills and lighting etc, it was time to take it seriously, so new site on square space and domain, and now this video is really giving my the "If I can do it, so can you" motivation so thank you! I feel I was making excuses like "Oh I live in Northamptonshire so not many clients as somewhere like London" but there is always clients, you just need to know the right audience you wish to reach! Definitely needed this!
@@RossWelch Thank you dude, really excited to see the rest of this series, and find that perfect pitch to grow the clients trust and build repour with them :) see you in the next video / Live
id love to see a more in depth video on how to recognize value in the videos you make for businesses, for example the businesses we work with, we know the value videos that focus on brand identity can bring but also if the view count isn't high on socials it feels as if the results aren't worth it and youre chasing virality and nothing else, and part of that has to do with the already current standing on the business. There's so many variables that go into successful campaigns especially when comparing to competitors. Like you see the same type of video and can copy it exactly but theirs might get 5x the results simply because they ended up boosting that post etc. Can feel like a struggle when trying to focus on content ideation and become so stressful worrying about losing the client. I guess what i'm trying to say is when do you figure you should change your strategy content wise, and what do you consider when coming up with new ideas for the business you're working with?
Fantastic content as always, Mr. Welch. No other creator is this thorough in demonstrating the intricacies of creating a real video production business!
I'm a doctor and content creator. I am in the initial stage of exploring creating a media production company to assist other GP surgeries across the country to do what I do. This content is extremely helpful during this early phase whilst I try to figure out how feasible this goal I have is.
This is great content I”m still in the learning stage of how to shoot and edit but I plan to follow the entire series and double back to it. Once I”m able to generate some income I hope to join perspective academy and continue to learn how to become a successful videography business
This is Just what I NEEDED! talking about marketing a business plan that fits the business perfectly and the Ideal customer, I didn't think about that at all. But now I've seen this. It will make me improve my business plan a lot more. Thinking about my tone of voice as well and how I want it to portray. I've been struggling most of this year knowing what to do. Your videos have really helped me understand more about video business and figuring out what to do. Hoping to learn more about how to speak to clients, in a nice way even if you don't truly understand what they need and the problem I'm trying to solve. I did have a meeting with 1 client that didn't end up taking me on, they had lots of content already and I didn't know what I needed to cover I was selling the production for £500 and the editing at £150 per day being 8 hour editing days. Which I got told not to do for free what are your thoughts. when you see a client that already has lots of video content?
Firstly, thanks Jan 🙏🏼 really appreciate it. Regarding clients that have lots of videos already, I'd normally see what's working already for them and what's not. Then we can propose more ideas based on that as well as gain a better understanding of what they are trying to achieve from having video content in the first place. You could also offer to re-edit existing footage to refresh their content as a last resort. These things are all about crossing the right people at the right time 👍🙌
I'm looking forward to learning more about that in the future as it was my first encounter with a home care company. I was totally clueless about what to do and ask, but I'm eager to dive in and expand my knowledge!
Hi Ross, I am overwhelmed with the information you've given us. I want to ask, since you've made many videos before about "starting a production company" do we ignore them and just use this one or what do we do for those of us who want to start a company?
Hey! Totally understand, often there can seem like so much to do! Put simply, make a plan of a page of A4 and take it one step at a time. As Joshua mentioned, take what works from each of the videos. We all have very unique businesses, despite being in the same industry, so try to use the tips you think work best for you and then combine them to make your dream business 😊🔥
Of course!! 1. Make sure you check their portfolios and get details round how long the project took. 2. Ask about their workfolow and turnaround times (how reactive can they be) 3. Give them small tests to begin with before you use then on a live project If you do that, you should ha e the best chance of finding the right person 😁
Excellent content Ross, this is a really cool series. Interesting to see your thought process behind creating a new brand. It's not too dissimilar to how I went about creating my own... except I paid £700 for a logo from an award winning designer because I'm a bit of a perfectionist 😅 (and that was mates rates). It's crazy what AI can do these days, love the quick iteration website. I would highly recommend anyone to really dig deep on what your company ethos and mission is, something that really excites you, because that excitement and raw emotion you have from talking about your own video brand and how that approach can help your client will shine through in your discovery calls and emails. When a prospect says things like "I had a look at your website and it really resonated with me" you know you've struck a chord.
hahah! thats quite a lot when you're just starting. Great advice too! Getting that tone of voice for your business will drive sales to your ideal customers, for sure!
@@RossWelch Yeah I can't say I recommend everyone do that, but I bartered with the devil of debt to give me a jump start in my perceived value to charge more from the get go. I should mention I started the business while on a full salaried position as an Art Director at a company, so I had a regular income to be in the position to do that, in fact I still work that job despite making more in just my spare time / holiday leave now with the production company. It gives me the stability of a monthly income since I haven't quite yet cracked the retainer hurdle yet (but do get a lot of great repeat client projects). Definitely recommend having a stable income while building any kind of business on the side first until it starts to cost you money to keep your job 😅
