"Margerine Eclipse" is my fave Stereolab's Lp and it's beyond the pale how underrated this masterpiece is. Definitelay in my top 10 of the decade.
What I love about them is that they're just like, this is our 31 song album of songs we're working on right now. Nothing is the "best thing we've ever done" it's all just like, what they were doing at the time. To me they seem disconnected (which they are an ex-couple) but like....the music is still something they're doing. Reminds me of cool divorced parents lol, they have this kid (their music) but they're not pressing anything on the kid, not trying to make it 'be' any certain way, still care for the kid, maybe it's not the most "passionate" point in their existence, but they keep the music alive and do their best to give it a way to be in the world
My new favorite band. Just discovered them yesterday
me too
Still your favorite band?
Is it still
Laeticia is gorgeous especially here.
She has the same birthday as me :)
Tim and Laetitia seem irritated with each other here. Estranged.
Poorly edited production. I LOVE Stereolab.
i think the whole interview is just awkward.. seems a little forced
5:06
check out some of their songs from sound dust and empire tomato ketchup
i think with a small table like this you can just throw a voice recorder on the table and hit the button
Operator151 to be fair, at this time, most media outlets were barely stepping up their production for TH-cam videos back then. It seems like only a few short years later they finally realized that a lot of people were watching and invested more resources into them.
@@djstarsign Yeah, that was shot at my place in NY. Remember the team mostly consisted of film school students and recent graduates. Guess they were still learning their craft...
5:05 "I wouldn't put Peng!" The truth is that Tim doesn't like the early Stereolab albums much. He has said many times that he wasn't very happy with how the first 4 albums turned out. His favorites are Cobra & Phases and Sound-Dust, so no surprise.
I love Sound Dust. Nothing else I've listened to has caught me like Sound Dust, but I haven't listened to much else. Any recommendations?
I’m sure you’ve delved further, but Dots and Loops is one of their best and most cohesive albums as a whole. I also recommend Emperor Tomato Ketchup. Les Yper-Sound is one of my favorites
@@rudolffulcanelli3090 Thank you!!
To quote Universal slob, Dave Lister, a la Red Dwarf, "I just looouuuvre that accent!". I've never heard her speak before! She sounds like Tessa from Highlander The Tele Series!
Saw them in Boston late 1990's I think there was a little LSD present.
The following interview was recorded equally on both channels, but is out of phase...
They are amazing. Check out some of the stuff you tube live to from 1994-2000. (Preferably with Ms. Sadier in tune). At their best, they were incredible.
An uncomfortable interview.
She doesn't look happy in this interview, especially at 5:11.
This feels really awkward…
why the hell has the interviewer got that delay effect on his voice.
bro think he carti
nahh bro that's just his normal voice. lol
@@gxbrxxl9626 HAHA
Cobra!! My favorite album
Start with Peng! for sure
i agree, peng!
I like their sound and I still don't know enough about them, but sadly they don't seem very connected to each other in that interview.
in a relationship, then broke up and didn't want to be together but were still in a band
This is*late Stereolab* - imagine Bob Dylan on TH-cam talking about "Self Portrait," fans will watch, but hate themselves for not being able to look away. I wish Tim would do some good solo music. Kybernetika was so promising.
He's got such a good haircut.
what is happening with this audio? it sounds like you have 2 audio sources that are out of sync
(4:00) Maybe Tim has forgotten about “Tone Burst (Country). Definitely a favorite. th-cam.com/video/Pilj9GO_NsQ/w-d-xo.html
Man, this is a terrible interview.
I agree.
Yes but why is it terrible ? Is it because they are both so uncomfortable and seem to not want to be in the sane room together ?
Why is Tim Gane constantly pulling faces while laetitia speaks ? I find it very disconcerting
I love listening to Stereolab the band, but stuff like this and they're soooooooo boring & difficult.. BTW how hot is Lætitia here though 😍
How could a music magazine get the audio on the interviewer so wrong?
Interviewer sounds weird..... Like they put a delya effect on him.... Or a close and a distant mic
I suppose I'm partial here, but it seems like Gane is less than amicable here...
Yeah well Pitchfork gave Cobra Phases a really big dump of a review and weren't too kind to them during this era.
Also they were close to breaking up, it could be he is stressed about that, they seem to be annoyed with each other a little.
ha ha yes i am hearing the same thing
5:40 . there's like multiple voice overs going on.
There's absolutely none of the connection of the early interviews. Hardly look at each other. Laetitia looks bored and finally pissed with Tim. I guess relationships must have been bad at this point.
Why is tim contorting and making faces ? They always seem uncomfortable in interviews
2:43 woah
I've got some original songs that sound like Stereolab, and I want Laetitia to sing them!
Please respond. Guitar Dave.
The mixing for this interview is awful, I can barely hear the voices, it's too bassy
Awkward. These two do not seem to be liking one another at the moment.
Is the project being canceled, because I dont have any news of Stereolab, or is it an old interview.
in case you're still wondering, the second part is Not Music
#awkward
Fab Four Suture. Terrible interview, terrible audio. Check your levels. Record in a better space or use the appropriate microphones.
ühühüh
Tim is sleeping
This interview must have been in response to Chemical Chords, (30 songs split in half) a disappointingly horrible album.
I really like Chemical Chords. 'Three Women' is such a catchy tune. The closer is also very somber.
La yoko ono de Mc Carthy
Where is the female singer with full lips?
HooptieHamburger She died in a bicycle accident in 2002, just before the Margerine Eclipse album.
chiangui24 That really sucks. I have learned a great deal more about Stereolab since I posted that comment, and I really hate the fact that Mary Hansen died so young. She and Laetitia Sadier made a magical vocal duo that I think is one of the top few greatest vocal duos in the history of recorded music. Their phenomenal voices were perfect for each other. I'm sure Tim and Laetitia's writing had something to do with that, but it will be a long time before two voices come together like Laetitia and Mary's did. That is some mind-blowing stuff.
Dreadful and embarrassing.
year?
Probaby 2008 or 2009.
