I love this interview because Bonnie is knowledgeable about Stereolab and shows that she is a fan without making them feel weird. And Lititia & Duncan mad chill

Probably one of the more intelligent and respectful interviews I've ever seen of a band. Nice job Bonnie Burkert!

One of my favorite bands. This was recorded about a month after
I saw them for the first time in 1993.

She is a nice lady, for sure (I didn't know her back then though but I'm sure she was as lovely as she is nowadays)

Incredible! thank you for uploading this, do you have any more early lab interviews?

No, we've only interviewed a few musicians more than once....sorry....

They seemed quite relaxed, but some musicians did get nervous about talking to journalists.
The Sex pistols, didn't care a shit what they said to the media.
It should be about the music.
Joy Division, had a strong image, but they weren't Facist!

Stereolab is a permanent love of mine for musical and sentimental reasons but besides having something to sing about and stand for.. I never could figure out how marxists or hard core wingers can actually believe one of two manufactured herding mechanisms can be morally superior to another just because it happens to historically appeal to a particular demographic or even stylistic preference.. It's the trappings of impressionable youth until they are too old to turn around without embarrassment.
There is no right or left for elites. If I know that, why don't they? Maybe they were Soros' favorite group!

She thought the 30s were after the second world war. She doesn't know what she's talking about

    • @reedwacker2090
      @reedwacker2090 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I know, and she thought the 90s were right wing.... Maybe she made the history mistake because she was nervous? In other interviews she says how artists are stifled by conservatives, but I don't see any examples of that. Besides Stereolabs stuff is pretty relaxed and tame considering what else is out there.

No, she obviously meant and wanted to say WW1 as she speaks of the time that led to Hitler. So it was a nervous lapse.

She knows exactly what she’s talking about. She’s saying that it’s inspired by the Weimar Republic and artists like Bertold Brecht. The 1930s prior to the rise of Hitler. She made a slip and said Second rather than First World War. Would you manage as well if you gave an interview in French?

    • @gomey70

@@reedwacker2090 She said the world was becoming 'more and more right wing', which it was, and had been since WW2 especially through the Reagan and Thatcher years of the 80s. Clinton had won the election in '92 by moving towards the right. Also New Labour in the UK who came to power a few years later.
