@@BAMA-2019 I wanted Shula to do well, and I wanted DuBose to do well. They didn't, changes were made and I'm glad Alabama is where they are today. As far as "best games," consider that they held a Spurrier team to 7 points and just a little over 100 yards of offense. And, considering how Florida had dominated the SEC in the 1990's, this was a pretty big, pretty special win for Alabama. They dominated the game in the second half and won an SEC Championship - their first since 1992. So, I do think it is one of their best games ever.
I was so disappointed that Alexander suffered an injury vs Tennessee. He never was 100% until the bowl game. He was the Heisman front runner before that happened. Just an amazing player.
1999 was a weird year for Florida - under Spurrier it was the only time they lost twice to the same team in a season, only time they lost 2 home games in one season, and finished with the only 3-game losing streak of the Spurrier era.
Yep. And were even ranked #1 at one point. Very weird season. That was probably Spurrier’s ‘worst’ season at Florida. That’s how spoiled Florida was under Spurrier. 9 wins and an SEC East title was his worst season.
Mike Dubose set Bama back until CNS--Spurrier wrote Dubose, not the SEC, and told him to quit paying players out of Bolles High School, Jacksonville Florida.
@@gorman646 He got two wins against him in one season. So he owned him with one team. Doesn’t mean a whole lot. Spurrier was 3-1 vs Saban, and 5-1 vs Stallings. Two of Bama’s greatest coaches ever.
@@chrisj7187 Meant a lot to Spurrier at the time, which you can see on his face when the Tide went up 22-7. He was like 'I'm losing to THAT guy...again?' As for his record against Stallings and Saban, duly noted, but irrelevant to my comment.
I remember this game well...I live in Satsuma Alabama about 20 miles north of Mobile Alabama. The same weekend of this game was Bay Fest in downtown Mobile Alabama. Hank Williams Jr was the closing act for Saturday night... He walked out on stage & The 1st thing he said was..."Steve Spurrier can kiss our Alabama asses...ROLL TIDE ROLL" Then he opened the concert with "All In Alabama" A totally awesome memory & concert.
Randy Miller that was the first meeting in Gainesville he was talking about. That game was in October. BayFest was always held in October. This game was the first weekend in December.
Tyler Watts never got enough credit at Bama he did save the 99 iron bowl and had a heckuva season in 2002 undefeated, no he’s not a great but was solid.
Bama’s 40-39 OT win was kind of flukish. They needed a dropped punt near the end of the game to get to OT, and a missed PAT to win. This wasn’t flukish obviously.
@@chrisj7187 however, if you watched the game wasted: freddie millons does look flukish at the end: my first time ever drinking: only image i remember: i thought i was hallucinating
I hope this day is erased/reversed through the Mandela effect and that Spurrier won 9 natty titles with the Gators. Otherwise, this game is dead to me.
Bill W Mike Shula basically caused Tyrone Prothro’s injury against Florida in 2005 by having him in the game in garbage time AND calling a corner post in garbage time. I’d say crushing your team’s hopes of an SEC and maybe even a National Championship because of stupidity and greed should rank pretty high on the “shitty coaches list”.
@@bigeric1030 Alabama wasn't going to win the national title that year. They had no depth. What happened to Tyrone was extremely unfortunate and I'm sure if he had to do that one over again he wouldn't have him out there. Alabama, was still under crippling NCAA sanctions and whether you want to admit it or not Shula, brought the program back from the brink that Dubose and boosters caused it to be on. Then again, the truth ain't for everyone.
@@therealfronzilla Auburn really exposed that team after they came within a hair of beating LSU. But close calls with Southern Miss, Ole Miss, and Tennessee should have told us something. When you think about it, to have Brodie Croyle and in Bama's biggest games after Florida - Ole Miss, Tennessee, Mississippi State, LSU, Auburn and Texas Tech - Bama had five offensive TDs! Just five! But, I agree - Shula had his back to the wall from the get-go. He wasn't as bad as people think.
I just don’t see how any black kid could play for either of these schools especially Alabama. It was so obvious these hillbillies couldn’t stand Zow being the starter over watts who was simply not good but they found a way to split time when zow was clearly the starter
