  • The 2009 SEC Championship matched two undefeated teams, the #1 Florida Gators and the #2 Alabama Crimson Tide. It was a rematch of the 2008 SEC Championship, when Florida defeated Alabama 31-20 behind a 14 point fourth quarter rally and went on to win the national championship.

This win was important for another reason. It gave Bama an SEC Championship in the 2000-09 decade, and kept Bama's streak of having a conference championship in every decade in the SEC alive. With the championships in the 2010s, it means the SEC streak is now nine decades long - an entire century if you include the Southern Conference championships of the 1920s!

Well said! Bama has also won national championships in 8 of the last 10 decades - the 50s and 80s are the only exceptions.

Alabama had a rough Decade, enduring a 3-8 season in the Year 2000 and ended with a National Champions in 2009

I remember watching this game, during the entire 4th quarter. I was basically chillin because I knew we won this game. Tebow and company couldn't capitalize at all the whole game. What's funny is how Bama was #1 the previous season and we lost while we were wearing our Away jerseys but this years game it was the exact opposite. We returned the favor lol. Sweet revenge, RTR

As a Georgia fan, this was the MOST memorable SEC championship game by far. I graduated high school in 09 and I still to this day love the way arrogance was wiped away from the Gators faces. Also Tebow crying was just a cherry on a sundae for me.

If I had one game to introduce the next generation to the Alabama Dynasty, it would be this one. Even ten years later, I don't think that Bama has played a better game in the Nick Saban era than this one.

@@RadicallyOptimistic Sorry that I missed this comment. I still give the edge to that Florida game, but that LSU game was total domination. Loved both of those games. But Florida had won 2 of the past 3 National Championships, had Tim Tebow, and were gunning for history and ran right into an Alabama wall. But the LSU win was the one that validated Saban and Alabama. I still give the edge to the UF game.

Such a turning point for Florida and all of college football. Had Percy Harvin been there. Had Tebow not suffered the concussion vs. Kentucky - which left him game shy. I think Florida wins this game. As a result , this team wins 3 national championships, Tebow wins 2 Heismans and this team and Tebow go down in history as the greatest in college football history.

I've heard the Harvin excuse since the game happened, but the Tebow concussion excuse is bizarre. That happened nine weeks earlier.

Dan Mullen wasn’t our offensive coordinator this year either. If he was, on top of all that, we would’ve won. But no use talking about the past I guess. Here I am now cheering for Bama to beat Michigan in the rose bowl because we didn’t make one🤦‍♂️ go gators

No wonder Alabama won this game. Both teams were 12-0. 12+12=24. 2+4=6. Tebow's jersey number was 15. 1+5=6. It was a rematch of the previous year's game, 2008. 8-0-0-2=6. Alabama, therefore, is Illuminati Confirmed.
