Jam Episode 2, Part 3 of 3 Then welcome, ooh astonishing sod ape, welcome in Jam. Sketches in this clip 1.Plumber Baby 2.Gun Idiot 3.Woman in Trouble 4.Life's So Good
I've been looking for the plumber sketch, just the best thing Jam did. With the gun sketch and the rest included, just a superb compilation of what Jam was about. Roll on Chris Morris and co. Love the radio stuff, IT Crowd and all the rest of it. Only a genious could get away with Four Lions. :oooo)))))
The baby plumber sketch is one of the high points of Jam - one of the places where beneath the 'dark humour' lies something profound. The fragility of life and the tenacity of the human spirit which will cling onto it even at the cost of descending into madness. I don't know - I worry that that sounds stupidly pretentious. But, as with many other Jam sketches, I have a feeling that it means more than just "ooh look how grotesque this is".
That's the whole essence of it. It's about people losing their senses and thinking that their behaviour makes perfect sense. That's why it's funny and sad at the same time.
basically the writer of this show (chris morris) has been making pretty controversial and well known satirical shows in britain since the early 1990's. this show is taken from an old radio show he had and its sort of like some bizarre underground art piece that was barely recognised when it came out, weird late night telly stuff... i personally think its his magnum opus, amazing and dark
I had to lol at your comment. It reminded me of something John Cleese once said: "When people say "I'm not a prude but..." it usually means "I am a prude and...""
@AlephNeil When you say the fragility of life and the tenacity of the human spirit which will cling onto even at the cost of descending into madness it reminds me of Mary Shelley's novel. Would you therefore consider this Chris Morris' 'Modern Day Prometheus'? I never thought about it that way. But yes this could indeed be the best modern rendition of Frankenstein in a short ever...
@AlephNeil - dude I totally agree. It's not just trying to shock for shock value. Instead it's a way to highlight issues that we as either individuals or as a society have trouble dealing with. :)
Was this sketch adapted from the original Blue Jam radio show like a bunch of other Jam sketches? If so, what series/episode? I ask this for extremely sinister reasons.
Jam was a great show but I prefer Blue Jam,the radio show. The use of music was utterly sublime.See Rothko into Ray Of Light by Madonna for one example...
Her baby is dead, she is desperate. She offers the plumber a lot of money to do his best. Tempted by the money, he tries his best. It's not funny when you explain it.
"Of course I want change, what do you think the gun's for?"
What an amazing statement.
I want my funeral in my prime.
What a brilliant way to go.

i think u need to watch this show stoned to fully appreciate the genius in it.
Chris Morris A study in brilliance. Makes my heart ache it's SO damn good.
plumber baby will haunt me forever
I love the warped mind of the writers. Bloody brilliant TV. 😂
Why isn't there anything like this in 2018?
I'm pretty sure this first sketch is about people who cling on to life & will not let go of loved one who are in coma's. Cheers,
Peace*
mark heap: brilliant actor
That last scene - now THAT is black comedy.

The baby plumber was so disturbing.
I had to lol at your comment. It reminded me of something John Cleese once said: "When people say "I'm not a prude but..." it usually means "I am a prude and...""
the plumber showed great care & attention to detail putting a plughole on the mouth for it to gurgle. You don't get that with the real thing!
"of course i want the change! what you think the guns for?!" lol

Me too, especially being a plumber myself!

@MehmTex
you're making me hungry...might have to watch a cooking show lol
Mark Heap's face is a joy to watch.
ahahahah! good one! :D
Mark Heap is awesome
@AlephNeil Plus also the lengths that ordinary people will go to, and the depths to which they will descend, when money is the motivating factor.
Not exactly, but it uses the beginning of the second movement of Dvorak's New World Symphony.
christ i forgot how deranged this show was haha, love it =D
This is why plumbers shouldn't be doctors. (I'm looking at YOU, "Dr." Mario.)
Plumber Baby made me think of Eraserhead too. Wonder if he used it for inspiration?

I don't get plumber baby. Did that woman buy a sink, call it Matthew, and think it was a baby?
Jam was a great show but I prefer Blue Jam,the radio show. The use of music was utterly sublime.See Rothko into Ray Of Light by Madonna for one example...
he's only 3 months old - I'm sure they're supposed to last longer than that.
....ace
Holy shit Plumber Baby is dark. Funny, kind of, but daaaark.
'I'm American and i don't get it' wah wah wah
could somebody please explain to me what "jam" is? because it looks relly cool. is it like the british "twilight zone" or somethin?
@AlephNeil Also, how easy it is to convince someone to try something by offering them absurd amounts of money.
Best Fucking Show EVER!
that gun sketch was a bit far fetched - like 1 policeman would take him down in such a short amount of time? lol
what is the tune on the 'Gun Idiot' sketch?
ummm Mr. lizard doesnt really know how to use his gun does he >.>
where's part 2?
jam is like a derek jarman film without the gay
mmm! i do not see the scary or disturbing moment here.. I think my humour goes beyond every imaginable dark humour!! well thanks for trying anyway!
@thiscocks i was wondering the same thing carol
funny...but it's no "Eels" ( mighty boosh)
Air Giant by transglobal underground
this video specifies the exact point when western civilization jumped the shark...
Well its true - if you see coppers on channel 4, youll see what I mean
