  • The Taylor 814ce Grand Auditorium Electro Acoustic Guitar With ES2 System. An Acoustic Guitar that Stands Out in a Busy Mix and Sounds Stunning Through my Bad Cat Black Cat Amplifier.
When it comes to Acoustic guitars… Taylor and Martin are probably two of the big US manufacturers that spring to mind although there are of course many others who make high quality instruments - especially in this price bracket. As I return back to playing and recording after a 40 year break, to some degree many things have not changed in the guitar world, but my search for an electro-acoustic guitar led me to the Taylor brand. Back in the early 80s I had a brush with Ovation Guitars and notably the Electric Legend which once again I was drawn to because of its bright tone.
Opening the Taylor deluxe hard-shell case reveals a beautiful guitar, that being the Taylor 814ce with its Spruce-Sitka top, high gloss Rosewood back and sides, Rock Maple binding and much more. A nice touch is that bevelled edge which not only adds to the comfort when holding the body, but looks cool. The ES2 patented pick-up system works very well and without doubt helps to place this guitar perfectly within a busy mix with a good range of clear tones. The mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard has 20 medium size frets and the guitar is a pleasure to play. If your in the market for an electro-acoustic, particularly for recording projects and you like beautiful looking instruments then this is certainly one to take a look at... Enjoy!

LOVE,LOVE,LOVE! Thank you for this. I have a Fender Newporter, maybe not quite up to your spec but it's a cool 'wee' instrument as you Scots might say.
PS I enjoy your down to earth presentation style btw.

Hi HoneyBee-Dee - Thanks for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed the video. The Fender Newporter is a very nice guitar, I have played one. I have an old beaten up acoustic that I would take on camping trips and it sounds beautiful, especially with new strings... which just goes to show, you don't always have to spend the big bucks to find a guitar that you love playing... regards: Stu

Hi Amin - many thanks as always... In regard to your question... As a child I was brought up in a family that had music playing (radio and records) all the time. I saw a cheap electric guitar in a shop and fell in love with it. I saved up for a long time and bought my first electric guitar around 13 years old. I went through some painful challenges as a youngster and playing guitar and writing songs helped me through those times. Today, I love to play music that evokes emotion but also just like to play for the fun of playing.... what about you... what inspires you Amin?... Regards: Stu

Pretty guitar. I am leaning more toward wanting to buy a Taylor, before I pick a new electric. I live in a hot & humid place, it really isn't good on guitars. I used to keep my guitars just on stands, but since living here, I have learned to just keep things put away. And that also helps my kids not to play with the guitars too :) I haven't really thought about a setup for an acoustic yet...I have some research to do.

Hi Jasper - They are very attractive instruments although a touch pricey. I see you can get some bargains on the used market and certainly in the USA there will be more to choose from than in the UK. I do keep an eye on humidity using the inexpensive humidity tool seen on the video. The guitar is generally kept in its case with silicon packs but I do bring the guitar out of its case from time to time to let it breath. Funny... my old beat-up acoustic (been on numerous camping trips) sits in my living-room and it couldn't care less what the ambient temperature is doing and sounds great all the time... there must be a lesson in there somewhere... ;-) regards: Stu

@@StuGuitarChannel that's what I kind of what in a Taylor, to be my camping/take to a friend's house, guitar. But still be able to play for groups if needed. My locally made nylon string guitar is ok. Sounds ok pass the 12th fret even. But it really lacks tone and sustain. When I was 20, I said to myself, someday when I am older, I want to learn flamenco. I was having daydreams of strumming and flicking like Paco de Lucia. I bought that nylon, because my music tastes have changed. I am older now. I still can't play flamenco. Paco de Lucia has died. And I don't like long nails on my right hand (I have tired so many times). Long nails aren't great for sports or chasing kids or cooking...and those are things I like to do. Have you listened to Phil Keaggy before, especially his instrumental works?

@@jasperMT516 Hi Jasper - I have not heard of Phil Keaggy but I went and had a listen... some really nice playing and music. My wife and I use to spend quite a bit of time in Spain and on occasion we got to see and hear flamenco guitar players who would sit and perform while you ate your meal... fabulous to watch some of those players. Your never too old to learn.... ;-) Regards: Stu
