Peco is one of those characters I never really liked to use either. Though power wise he's one of the best and the best team is probably Peco, Ryu, and Rei in attack formation with Peco at point. On the other hand, he does start at level 1 and is very convenient to use as a skill doll if you don't have other plans for him which is honestly what I do, and he's not really required for much of anything in the game outside of recruiting Meryleep. I usually like to use Momo and Nina (even though she's garbage tier) though I tend to favor speed, probably more than I should, and I think they, along with Rei, are much easier to work with. I think most people should probably focus on developing Ryu, Rei, and 2 others they like and use the other 2 as skill dolls. Rei is not available for nearly half the game and effectively starts at level 25 so you're a lot more limited with what you can do with him master wise and when he does rejoin you, you probably want to develop him anyway since he's required for several areas towards the end of the game.
As someone who played as mostly Garr and Peco only because I like Garr character I can respect that. It is important you play the characters you like. I mean fuck min/maxing, you can do that in another playthrough if you feel like it. Just shows how much you love the lore and game.
Don't forget about Chain Formation! The Master Bais will teach you this and it is a battle formation you can set for your party. This formation changes your entire parties agility stat to that of the character in slot 1. SO if you make sure that Rei who already excels in Agility the point member you wont have to care about the Agility stat of anyone else ever! i suppose you could pick a 2nd backup Agility character in case you don't like or don't want to bring Rei for some reason?
Chain is great if you don't want to develop each characters agility individually, I don't like the hit to defense that comes along with it but it's solid.
@@theobsessivecompulsivegame9078 With double turns it might be worth it if you can beat them in one turn. Garr at 0 agility apparently would also get ex turns too.
Man this is making me want to play BOF3 again haha... I never ran Peco before I always ran Rei Garr and Ryu lol all the manly chars so I overlooked the rest of the cast haha....
Loving these guides. I've just found them recently. It's great for min/maxing the characters, but this game is so easy and meant to be a journey of discovery with little to no challenge unless you have no idea what you're doing. In saying that, I have never really invested time into Peco as I also used him as a skill sponge like most people do. That being said, I can run this game over and over and never get bored because of how customisable the characters can be utilising the various masters. I usually run with a Ryu/Rei/Momo team which just seems to be the norm somehow. I'm thinking on my next run I will just go with a brute force team of Ryu (Under Bunyan for the most part), Garr and Peco just to see how that works out.
I'm currently playing a "hard mode" mod by lleywn, you should give it a shot for your next rerun. Its 3 times harder than vanilla and what makes it fun is magic is actually useful, which makes Mage Ryu route more viable than before. I straight up use Mygas for Ryu at the beginning, and its been treating me well 😂
@@theobsessivecompulsivegame9078 I just finished training Beyd he killed Zig in 3 hits. He was also beating me even with dragon form. He was one shotting all my characters, it had to reach that point. Zig did 0 damage to Beyd.
