I have recently been here myself and it was indeed an extremely good sunday lunch .Not the cheapest but excellent value or money and brilliant service from the staff .
Hi Eddie, long time subscriber here, my partner is one of the manageresses at the Owl and Otter (Also a Helen). I have watched many of your food review videos and have commented hoping you would visit the O&O. Glad you enjoyed your visit. Helen says bring the dogs next time. If i see you at the match any time ill stop to say hi.
I'm just up the road and drive past this often. Funny how these gems can be right under your nose and you don't realise - thanks for helping me find it Eddie! Looks beautiful.
I live on the estate opposite the O&O. Quite remarkable seeing how it has been turned around since these owners took over. Originally it was called ''the plough'', then bought out by Tavistock and renamed ''the new plough'' The reputation as The New Plough was absolutely terrible, food was shocking and service none existent. Within two years it was a no go from all the locals. Eventually the current owners bought it and turned it into what it is today, in a suprisingly short space of time its gone from zero to one of the highest rated in the North East. Credit where its due.
Try the Crown in Humshaugh for a Sunday lunch . Voted by Hexham Courant readers Northumberland pub of the year . Lovely sunday lunch . They have a car meet every 1st Sunday of the month , very exotic supercars are on display . Highly recommend !
The wife and I went to The Engine Inn at Walbottle. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try. Really good roast beef and the mash was the best I’ve ever had.
I done the behive on your review for my lasses birthday and it was so good i went back for my 40th. I used to deliver to the new plough and then the owl amd otter but ive never been myself but my family has that lives local. Ill be visiting it soon.
Oh my Eddie, my late Mum and family were all from Buronpfield! Many a happy time visiting from Yorkshire down the working men's club. We must have passed this place on the bus from Consett many of times. I recall as a kid men getting on the bus with their whippets stinking of beer. They used to race them in the fields with an illegal bookie in a council hose near my Mums old place🤣 Thanks, when I visit the UK next I will sure to ask my cousin to take me♥️
Looks very decent. I might pay a visit there one day. I used to work in and around Burnopfield in the mid 2000’s and I’d nip into that pub for a drink before and after work.
£17.95 and £16.95 respectively. Expensive??!! No way Pablo. You wanna come down south and get your pants pulled down for a shite quality roast dinner. Next time I'm in South Shields visiting my friend, that's where we're going. Keep up the good work ❤
Great video this, I’ve heard nothing but great things from friends & family who have been. This confirms the owl & otter is right up there with the best in the north east. Just to recommend a few Eddie. Earl of pit street, the broad chare, the tanners arms & wylam brewery are all worth a visit for the future 👌👌 the Northumberland arms & St Mary’s inn if you fancy a nice drive for one.
Good review Eddie gonna give it a go mever been in since it was the plough bout 25 years ago ... Seen you in Fog on the Tyne (the old schooner) few weeks back . What did you think of it ?
Great video that looked very tasty, I think I might give that one a try, you should put their details in the description so people not from the north can find and visit.
Try sale pepe and sorella sorella, I used to work at both and know the owners well, fantastic family and great to work for! Great review, keep up the good work 👏 😊
12 inch pork scratching stick... Never heard it called that before. The food looks good. I was in the area looking for grub a while ago. Now I know where to go!
Keep these reviews coming Eddie - just wish Lia and I were a tad closer to sample! I wonder if lunch time gift cards are available? My sister & brother in law are Durham folk. Durham lad in US.
Helen's featherblade ? oo -err missus -it's wor Susan's birthday next week -I want to treat them all to a nice meal -while I'm still 'stuck in Thailand' -Thanks for the recommendation Eddy x (p.s .the Toon are shite)
Why oh why have you done this ..its bad enough getting a booking...now you have made it even harder ....well done...stick to doing pubs & restaurants that need it..😂😂
Looks daft all piled up like that only to be dismantled before it can be eaten, the Jolly Drovers is worth a punt, less expensive and less pretentious with excellent carvery.
I have recently been here myself and it was indeed an extremely good sunday lunch .Not the cheapest but excellent value or money and brilliant service from the staff .
Old England still alive
Owl and otter was my local when I lived in Dipton, Sundays dinners are amazing

How can you state it is the best ever. I wager that Helen's cooked Sunday lunch would be the best ever.
Hey, I do the cooking in our house 😃👊🏻
Look's amazing! I'll be trying that when I'm home for Crimbo

Went there last year for Sunday Lunch and it was fantastic
Obviously marvellous. 👌

Wow, mouth watering watching this like. Looks like premier league food that like.
Lovely there, also like Shiremoor house farm in Wallsend though the second one is just a plate of scran and not as extravagant 😂
That looks great definitely going to give the owl and otter a try cheers Eddie.
One word Eddie fabulous.
My sister lives in Burnopfield she loves the place
Looks very decent. I might pay a visit there one day. I used to work in and around Burnopfield in the mid 2000’s and I’d nip into that pub for a drink before and after work.
Spot on Eddie, been twice, top notch 👌
