I still have my MP-33s and bought them when they first came out. Had them fitted 3-PW and still using them to this day (though 19 years later, my swing speed has slowed down a little). Had them re-gripped a few times. Love them !! Perfect irons to use without gloves, so you can really feel the shots.

I have a set of mp 14s, which I love. I found a mp32 2 iron at goodwill for two bucks. Went to the range, and tried it with my last ball. I waggled the club, and just felt something different. I swung and for the first time in my life smoked a 2 iron. I yelled “Holy s@$t” and just stared at the club. That is why you should get a set of old mp blades.

I've had MP33's 2-PW since they were released .... when the faces get too worn I'll have them completely rebuilt and refinished, then I'll play them for another twenty years. I'm not giving these beauties up. Just awesome!

Do they rust on the face? I’m curious what refinishing entails. I saw a set of 33s heads only that basically looked like they where polished and buffed really nice, is that all it is? Can they fill scratches?

I am a life-long Mizuno Iron player. Started with MP14 from 1995 - 2002 : never thought I would find a better iron - then in 2003 I was introduced to the MP33 irons. Absolute game changer for me handicap dropped from a 10 down to a 2, shot shaping was significantly improved which gave me better access around the course and into the greens : with the ability to consistently hit the same yardages for each club depending upon shape & height. I as my swing speed declined a bit I tried using newer Mizuno irons (Newer MP & JPX irons) but I find myself still playing my MP33 irons. I was fortunate enough to find 2 brand new MP33 sets back in 2010 from a person up in Oregon who use to own a golf shop + I have had my old set refurbished so I actually have 3 sets which should last me until I can no longer play. 1 set here in AZ and the other in Calif + 1 in my closet. Nothing feels or plays like a Mizuno.

I’m jealous and feel the same way. Mizuno irons are all I ever played until a few months ago sold my MP4’s because I hurt my back and wanted a change. Wanted to use lighter shafts and it’s a better deal to get different clubs anyway. Or so I thought. Found a good deal on some ap2’s, had the s300 shafts I wanted to go back to when I was younger and I thought it would make the game easier. We’ll I hate them! I hate the way the bottom line sits behind the ball and in the rough. I can’t control them for the life of me. Now I find myself looking for clean grooves of a old mizuno set with s300s. Hard to find. I have preference for 33s 37s 69s and 4s, but I’m at the point where just give me any clean groove mp line mizuno and I’m happy.

I bought a very well cared for used set of 33s 3-PW this year. New to blades, I wanted to start with the best classic blades to learn how to game them. Fast forward, today I also own a used set of 68s 3-PW. Once you feel Mizuno blades you’ll never want anything less 💫🏌️

I love MP33. Bought a set back in 2004 in Manchester and replaced them this year with a brand new set of.........MP33! Yeah baby! Never had any problem with wear on my old set though. Always kept them clean and dry. No problem

I came back to golf after 15 years and I thought I needed more forgiving clubs so I bought game improvement irons. Due to lockdown they are locked in my locker, apart from the 4 and 9 irons. So when I practice in the mornings at the local disused pitch and putt I use the Mizunos. They look great, feel great and they are so accurate! I can hit a four iron almost on top of the previous one, to within a couple of feet. Also much better for chipping. The lofts are a lot weaker though. The Mizuno 8 has 2 degrees more loft than a modern 9 iron, so you need one more club. For some reason I hit the 4 iron the same distance as the new clubs. I see nothing wrong in changing the grips, I bought midsize Champkey X and love them, nice tacky feel.

I've played with the same set of MP33 2-PW clubs for 17 years and am not a low handicapper. I have tried other clubs several times and even been measured up for new clubs but I still come back to the MP33s. I don't know why, but I hit them better than anything else - maybe the smaller head helps me focus. Also, no rust or visible signs of wear on the face

MP-33s are the best looking and feeling Mizuno iron to date. The only one near in my book are the MP-32s - they got those spot on also. Todd Hamilton won the Open with 33s.

I bought a set of MP 33's off Facebook Marketplace. Guy had 2 sets of clubs in a beat up torn Titleist golf bag. I could tell from pic, one set was Titleist and the other were some sort of blade. When picked them up they were 33's. I had wanted them since they came out. Had little rust on them but none like was in this video. Took a brush to them and regripped them. Look almost brand new. Just little bag clatter. Total cost with new grips.......$60!

  • @samuelhoward7213

I swapped to 64s when they came out (same issues apply) because 1) sometimes we have to come to terms with our ballstriking and 2) they haven’t made a better iron since the 64, but to me these look as good at address, feel as good on center, and work through the ground as well as any current model blade (including the 221).
I would go out of my way to get a set of these with minimal chatter and chrome plating still intact on the face.

TGIF!!!! Now you're talking! Mizuno is my jam as the kids used to say. I hate to admit it but I agree with you the wear on the sweet spot is annoying. My MP-14's did that and after 10 years or so I had to get rid of them. I ended up getting a set of the Mizuno T-Zoid Pro's and these do not have that issue. Mizuno's do feel like butta.............I will admit since I found this channel while I love Mizuno they are not the most beautiful clubs ever made and since I play mostly vintage clubs (persimmon woods and blade like irons) I have found myself scouring ebay for old Wilson staffs, Hogans, MacGregors, but I've really been fawning over the Maxfli Australian blades. So thank you for broadening my horizons and opening my eyes to the vintage scene more so than I was. Can't wait until next week!

I’ve had a set the last fifteen years I can’t sell them I mite put them away for maybe a round or two but they keeping jumping back in my bag. Can’t find anything that feels as good. Even if they punish me once in a while . Also have a set of Cleveland TA 2’s that I love almost as much. I want newer clubs but I keep coming back to these.

Great video. Got to admit I watched the one on the Cleveland vas irons and it brought back memories. Jumped on eBay found a set of those ugly things and ordered them. I've had them for about a month and shot my best score ever. 37 on front at Franklin golf course

i own these and the mp32 irons the issue with the 32 was hard to shape shot with the long irons a lot due to way the built them but the mp33 is built for workability completely probably the best irons even today you can get they go the distance u want with no hot spots, you can work them anyway you want and tbh blades arnt that unforgiving. great clubs and so glas got a set 2-pw

The OLD mizuno mp-33's (ones that were made in the early 80's (like 81-84)..They were alot thinner and had less muscle back. But Seve Ballesteros used a set of mizuno mp 33 manufactured in 81-84?, to win a bunch of tournaments including the british open during that time frame.

    A couple feedback thoughts:
    1. The browning you see there on the face happens when the plating wears down to expose the bare steel underneath. Any exposed steel is susceptible to rust. I don't think that is directly related to why Mizuno is heralded for its buttery feel. I think that would be more related to the type of steel they use, the way in which they forge that steel, and the overall design. So contrast that with something like the Nike Slingshot. It had a chrome finish which could wear and brown just like your MP33 9 iron there. But it feels like hot garbage. I think the 'soft' Mizuno feel would be more relevant to how easy it would be to knock an iron out of the intended lie / loft mid season.
    2. I genuinely wonder how many people wear a set of irons down to browning? There are a lot of variables in play here. The type of soil you play with. How anal you are about cleaning balls and grooves between shots. Pounding dirty range balls day after day vs. a weekend warrior who never practices. Is your swing repeatable enough to consistently hit the sweet spot day after day? I bet a PGA tour pro who is belting balls all day every day for years would need a new set maybe once a year. Wedges more frequently. I admit that cast clubs would have more durability, but I would also say that personally I see the brown spots as a bit of a badge of honor. It is no mistake that you tend to see more browning on bladed type irons. The type of golfer that would be interested in blades probably practices a lot and has a repeatable swing. How many of us actually check those boxes?
