A look through Some of my Charcoal sketchbooks 👀

A Quick look through a few of my sketchbooks.
I tend to start any painting with charcoal sketches either from life or photographs, This allows me to discover which compositions I prefer quickly without worrying about colour, I also found that painting straight from a photograph didn't allow me to paint as freely as I like.
When I like a sketchbook drawing I would often do a larger study in charcoal on paper again helping move away from my original photo further.
Any that make it through this process will become paintings and If the painting isn't going the way I like at this point it would usually be down to my colour choices rather than composition.
I've found this process helps keeps me motivated as any disappointments are discovered quickly and cheaply
