    Thank you! I have a Haden mango tree that makes THE best tasting fruit I've ever had - this coming from a Miami native that grew up eating mangos. My sister wants a tree so now I know how to make one for her.

    So to start, I need a mango seedling? One that actually sprouts from the seed, and then I cut it and add the piece from the Haden mango?
    I’m looking into this because my mother in law has a Haden mango tree that’s like 20yrs old, and I want to grow one for me because I love mangos! So, I can get the graft from her tree…

    You know what, you motivated me, I'm studying maths and during my worktime i'm completely disconnected from the world, using fancy words and theorems, I recently ate the best mango i ever tasted so i kept the seed, and thanks to your videos, you motivated me to grow my own thanks man !

      It makes me so happy that you had a good mango. So many of the mangoes that you find in the supermarket are blend but it really is an amazing flavor if you get the right variety, picked up the right time of year.

    So can you explain zoning? Does the seed has to be local and graft of any variety ? Or both? Or seed can be from anywhere and graft have to be compatible with the zone?

    Thanks. I would love to hear anything you know about family trees and fruit salad trees. I think that's multiple grafting to the branches instead of the stem, then carefully pruning?

      Jason, I don't know what a family tree is (aside from the human ancestry type) but people grow fruit salad trees as a novelty where they'll graft several types of citrus onto one rootstock. I've read where folks have successfully grafted up to 4 varieties of avocado onto a single tree but i've not had the opportunity to see one.

It's a good thing I watched a few of your more recent videos from 3 or4 months ago about which varieties of mango is best... and you explained which mangos are polyembryonic and monoembrynic. Damn it, there's those long words. It's just incomprehensible just how many varieties of mango and avoc- Damn it, I used another complex word! How do I aleays end up saying a very long word!
    If you were my teacher, you'd be the best teacher ever!!!

    you are so lucky i have tried to germinate mango seeds for about a year and finially got one to grow and the tree came up and the first set of leaves opened up and only one massive leaf came out and i brought it home and put it under a grow light with all my other trees and plants and the one big leaf is shrivling up but the only hope i have is that the second set of leaves is quickly coming in so hopefully they grow without a problem. by the way i am only fourteen so doing alot of fancy things is limited. keep up the amazing work and see you in your next video.

      That's great! I'm not sure how grow lights work but mango seedlings need partial light not full sunlight. Can you simulate partial light with the grow light?

    When you buy the mango prunes off any website, would you be able to just get the cutting and pop it in dirt, will it work?

      no, that would require some prep, the cuttings are meant for grafting.

    Is there a Mango variety you would recommend for growing inside? I live in Vermont so it will be inside in the winter.

      You could grill any mango tree as a houseplant but you’re not gonna get fruit up in Vermont unfortunately

    Bro I've been eating mangos all my life and I just learned that they are Polywhatever 🤯. So it doesn't matter what type of seed I start, it only matters what type cutting I graft on to the seedling. Oh it's about to go down!       Jorge, As a fellow mango lover I know the feeling. It goes by variety, some are polyembryonic and do not require grafting. The other varieties require grafting. For example a Nam Doc Mai does not require grafting whereas a Haden does.

    Curious, any experience and good results from grafting more than one variety Mango to root stock with several branches? As an example, early season. mid season and late season.

    How does the lower part of the grafted tree affect the mangoes? And also, can you graft with two different types of mangoes? Thank you!

      The lower part doesn't effect the fruit at all but we try to use seeds that give a nice strong disease resistant resistant platform for the graft to grow on.
      And yes people have successfully grafted more than one variety of mango onto the same tree.

    Thanks again for great video's. Question, how soon can I graft. Time of year and how tall or old does the plant/tree need to be? I planted a mango seed maybe 3 months ago? Started it the way you showed us. It is 8 inches high, now, from the top of the soil. I am dyeing to graft it from a friends large mango tree. Please tell me what to do!!!!! ?? Thanks... P.S. I just read one of your comments. You say Nov. Dec. is a good time to graft. So what about the age and/or height of the tree/plant, mine is 8 inches high? Thanks.

      Hi Marc, how you doing? You can graft as soon as the diameter of the seedling matches the diameter of the seedling.
      Yes, right now is a good time to graft mango. An 8 Inch seedling is fine if the diameter matches the diameter of the cutting. Good luck!

      You're right, I should have done that. I had been grafting a lot of avocados and we don't cover those and I forgot.

    I have double rootstock grafted mangos, do I plant both roots in the same hole or do I cut off one root before planting

      sounds like you might have a polyembryonic variety which means you can separate them and plant them each in their own pot...you don't have to graft polyembryonic varieties either...you'll get identical fruit in 3 years.
      Do you happen to recall the type of mango you got the seed from?

    Do scions/cuttings need to be freshly cut when grafting? Or how much time after cutting will they still have a high chance to successfully graft?

      the fresher the better but I'm told you can store them damp in the fridge for up to 30 days but I don't have any personal experience with that.

      I use plain old store bought potting soil and I add fruit blend fertilizer every 60 days

    So the tree you graft into can be any type of tree, crape myrtle, oak, standard hibiscus, etc?

      No. Has to be same species. Mango with mango 🥭. Apple with apple 🍎. Avocado with avocado 🥑

    Awesome👍 question , i did side bark grafting to my 20 year old mango tree yesterday using 3 scions in one go. I covered it with plastic cling wrap top to bottom including covering it with white plastic bag no holes and sealed with duct tape, is it correct? Pls comment if i need to remove it. And i place the scions in the middle of the bark hopefullly it will attach with rootstock later on. Pls advise if i can still correct it if it was not right since only few days have passed. Thank you so much.

      Razor, that won't work, it has to be within species, mango with mango

      @@SleepyLizard you can grow multiple types of mangos on one tree by taking different varieties of mango scions and putting them on
      on a old tree by making a slit,cut the mango scion at an angle and repeat the process multiple times with different scions

    What if you just get a branch say from mango tree and put it in water for it to root and then plant it in the ground ? If it does not produce fruits, can you then graft with another branch just like you did it? Or does it have to be from a seed plus another stem from fruit bearing tree?

      you can propagate directly from a cutting and yes if later down the road you want to graft onto it you can.

      we don't want the tree devoting energy to anything other than the graft. If it has rootstock growth then it will divert energy there and the rootstock will become dominant.

      Yes you can. The age doesn't matter, the important thing is to match the diameters or if you're doing a veneer graft carefully line up the edges.

    Hi! Can you reuse the cutting tool for the wedge? Because I have bought a cutter and I don't want to throw it away with just 1 use. Maybe I can apply alcohol to sanitise it?. Btw, I'm just starting to work in my backyard.

      Wow! That's great news. What are your plans for the yard?
      And yes you can clean your tools with hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, soap and water, diluted bleach. Just make sure you wipe it down good before you use it again. Get all the solution off there.

      I am currently planting different mango varieties such as carabao mango and katchamita a.k.a Indian mango, citrus fruits such as oranges and Calamansi (native here in the Philippines and in SE Asia), jackfruits, avocados, and different southeast Asian fruits.
      I also have an apple in our backyard, based on my research, apples can't be productive or thrive in tropical places but there's nothing wrong with trying right? That's it, take care always sir! Hope I can visit your garden in the future😉

    Is it important to put a plastic bag over the scion after you graft?? I’ve seen lots of videos where they do that.. I’ve tried to graft a few times and only one of my grafts has been good. It’s not yet flowering anything but it’s been a month and it’s still very healthy. Do I just keep waiting until it flowers..also.. I did put a bag over the scion that is healthy just want to know for future grafts if I need to do it or not.thanks love the video!

    You mentioned that you cut into the root stock off center. Is that just slightly off center? I've tried grafting mangos many times with no success. I always tried to cut the root stock straight down the middle, maybe that was part of my problem.

    Can you graft from 2 seedlings (sprouts)
    I live in Ireland and it's cold here and I don't know of any mango farmers here.
    Does mango trees require a certain heat environment?

      My guess is it will be too cold outdoors where you live. And while technically you can graft any avocado to any other there's really no point doing it from one seedling to another because the reason to graft is to take the cutting from a good producing tree and replicate it in your tree.

      you can use any rootstock but turpentine is preferred in Florida yes. How small? I've seen some surprisingly small diameters grafted but I prefer to wait till they're maybe the width of a straw.

      That won’t work. You still wind up with seedlings. That said with mangos it’s a bit complicated. Some varieties grow true to seed and do not require grafting. Do you recall the type of mango you got the seed from?

      I'm not selling cuttings right now. We sold out in the spring so my trees need to regenerate. It'll probably be July before I have any.
      As for mango in South Carolina I'mafraid you're out of luck. It gets too cold up there.

      Rocket Man, thanks for the question. I think what you mean by "species" is "variety". All mangos are of the same species. I only make this clarification because grafting must be done within species but not within variety. You can graft any type of mango to any other type of mango.
      On the other hand you can't graft mangos to apples which be be crossing species.
      Are you going to try your hand at some grafting?

I already have a huge Valencia Pride Mango Tree and wanted to know if I can do grafting onto the seedling from my Valencia so I can grow some Valencia Mangos from it. Is that how it works?     My trouble is understanding... can you just plant any seed from any mango, but graft from a tree that gives off delicious mango to end up with delicious mango?
