James Sok said that Kun Khmer Martial Art hadn't been allowed to train during French Colonization to avoid any conflicts. Later on, Cambodia had come through civil wars, so that was why the Thailand's Muay Thai becomes the best one in the Southeast Asia since then, but right now, it has been survived.
I don't want to say but have to say. The truth is Kun Khmer is the Khmer Martial Arts. It's one of the hundred style of Khmer Martial Arts or Bokato/Lbokato. Bokato has many many fighting styles. You can see these fighting style on the wall of Ancient Khmer Temples (the Khmer Empire). In the Khmer Empire Period Siam (Thai now) doesn't exist. Thai is the Tai ethno of the southern China. They start to move downward to Khmer Empire Land and set their small society under the Khmer help. The Siam start to learn everything from Khmer (which they love to call Khom since then untill now). Later when they have strong power enogh for conquer Khmer they attack Khmer again and again and try to put Khmer under their control. If you can compare Thai and Khmer language you'll see the truth clearly ever. You can see ancient temples, some fine arts, novels, traditional rites, letter style, monarchy style and ... these are what the modern thai don't want somebody else to know and doesn't let their children know.
During the French colony, Khmer called Kun Khmer as Prodal Serey (Free Fight) and just change into Kun Khmer 2 years ago (may be).
As i said, Siam or Thai absorb Khmer culture long time ago. They're so nationalistic. They change nearly everything into thai: bAn thai (thai home style), Lai thai (thai fine art), thron thai (form or style of thai), aksorn khom thai (khmer letter used for thai language "before now"), and the very now Muay Thai (Thai boxing style).

So much plagiarism! So much misleading ! So much distorted against Khmer histories . Khmer Empire from Ancient era was considered as the Ocean the powerful and prosperious Khmer Civiliazation. Khmer Empire were expanded to half of South East Asia mainland including all Cambodia, Laos , Thai,Vietnam until these modern day.
What cause the downfall of The Majesty Khmer Empire it’s because through out histories Khmer Empire were attacked and raided by multiple times from few Neighbors Asian countries . They sack and raided The Khmer Empire oftentimes Khmer Empire outlying provinces were lost and seized then its decrease in size and in dimensions.
Since Thailand seized 19 Khmer Provinces until nowadays . Vietnam seized 21 Khmers Provinces there’s it’s still plenty evidences of Cambodia population reside in Northern and Southern Vietnam that they still speak Khmers language fluently .
All theses factors concluded that Khmer Empire Civilization has heavily influence they’re Art Martials, Classical Dance, Traditional clothing , customs that has inspired and adopted by neighbors people then later they assimilated unto their own culture but the origin it’s from Khmer Empire Angkorian Civilization.
Ancient Cambodia was like the Ocean Pacific and Rivers overtime end up flowing into the Oceans and if water flow to a place that is surrounded by higher lands on all side a lake will form . The Khmer martial art is not Existing in the world of fighting sport. This "Kun Khmer " is the copy MauyThai version which kun Khmer organization just copy MuayThai technical handbook and also copy MuayThai martial art 2 yrs ago .

Do your research, im khmer and the thais just boycott us because we wanted to change the name to kun khmer for the s.e.a games in cambodia, we have kun khmer on are temple ankor wat long b4 thai existed. The "Kun Khmer" terminology is new to outsiders. Kbach Kun Khmer , translate to Khmer Martial Arts , its not new at all, There's many types that falls under the umbrella. Its just the Khmer people decided to call it Kun Khmer for short. When did you start hearing mauy thai? originaly in the 80s when they started to promote kickboxing the thai didn't introduce it as mauy thai. it was kickbox and thaibox, then they decided to stick with muay thai for the world.
no difference as khmer decides to use kun khmer terminology.. You know nothing of the history buddy. When Cambodia was going through war and genocide, thai took that opportunity to promote many things as theirs to the western world, while Cambodia was trying to rebuild in the 80s 90s and the 2000s. The Cambodian feels like it is time for them to reclaim their history back

That is Why ,Today even though Cambodia work so hard to claim MuayThai as thier own martial "kun Khmer ("Cambodia martial arts" ) when Cambodia trying promote this fighting sport to other country they wouldn't recognized as "Kun Khmer " but they only recognized this is MuayThai martial art from Thailand.

@@anclesam5017 Thai popularize the sport, i give them credit. Before the 70s and 80s have you heard of muay thai?? I bet you didn't. So does that means it never existed? Its been around, Have you ever heard of lethwei?? have you ever heard of muay lao?.. Same combat sport, the same as kun khmer, you never heard of it prior because you an outsider. Khmer , thai, lao, burma, been competing each other for decades even before the west new about it. Like i said earlier because Cambodia went into war and genocide they couldn't practice the sport, the fighters and teachers and master had to lay low because they were all getting executed. many were slaughtered. Cambodia was to busy trying to survive and rebuild. Theres school that teaches Kun Khmer since the 80s in long beach California. But khmer martial art was overshadowed by popularity of thaiboxing during the 80s and 90s, Now that Cambodia is booming there are trying to put their culture on the international stage . You know nothing of Cambodian history, the dominant force in southeast asia even before the thai/siamese migrate into the area, go do your research kid instead of talking out your ass

Cambodia may stop claime MuayThai and participate to MuayThai event as earlier because the claimed was unsuccessful , wasted time and money rather than accept MuayThai which currently well recognized in the world class level.
