At the middle of my life, and discovering Princess Anne for the first time. You can instantly sense the brilliance and charm of this royal. She was truly ahead of her time, a gifted communicator with an enormous heart, sense of duty and love of country. The younger royals should take a page from her successful management of public and private life.
She’s a treasure. I wishe the quality of TV programs reflected that of this old interview today so we had more opportunities to see the Royals like this.
She is certainly her father’s daughter. Similar senses of humour and a simple “just get on with it” approach. She’s also very intelligent and charming.
I wish we had had more opportunities during her youth see more interviews like this . Anne shows herself to be self aware, intelligent, very funny and very human. From the day of her wedding when she wore a dress that was so ahead of fashion and expected royal styling to these somewhat candid and honest responses, she is a self assured individual.
What a wonderful persona she puts across! Not the least bit stuck-up. Polite, well-mannered, respectful, and amusing. Everything a well-rounded individual should be. Respect to Princess Anne!
The queen didn’t receive the education she’d have liked, so she made sure that her daughter would have the best. And the result is this amazing person.

The lady playing Anne, whilst a charismatic actress given the role, is playing a very stilted version of Anne - a caricature, who speaks through the tiniest of openings in her mouth, like it is imagined someone of her breeding does. Also, you can unfortunately hear the actresses cockney roots coming through when she formulates certain words, and it is obviously a constant effort for her to maintain this form of RP. When I met with her in 1988/89, the immediate thing, that struck me, was that he’s so much more attractive in person, than photos or film, photographs never flattered Princess Anne
Princess Ann is naturally likeable, witty and very down to earth. She is the hardest working member of the Royal Family and represents many charities. She has her fathers no nonsense approach and seems to have the sort of 'no complaining, just get on with the job' character. Ann stays quietly in wings and has never caused a fuss or embarrassed the family in any way. There was no rift between her and Princess Diana which she discusses in the interview. Diana never disliked her but they were two different personalities and so weren't close.
Yes, this interview during the early Diana years and the focus was ultimately on Diana by the media. The Princess Royal seemingly in the background. Here is a glimpse of an utterly charming woman who never got the plaudits and as the years role by clips such as this present her to a generation who are discovering her. Like her dear Mother she is quick witted.
That was a tremendous interview , the princess came across very well, remember it all those years ago, Wogan was a genius at interviewing and he got the princess to relax and laugh which helps in these situations. The public saw a nice nice, powerful , intelligent but vulnerable side to the princess here which the papers has tried to tarnish and it endeared her to the British public from that day onwards as a good person who stands up for herself. She had great personality, beauty and wit, a model Queen in the making.
Brilliant interview between the Princess and Wogan, funny, interesting and warm. The interview was natural and none of this pulling the interview to bits with critical views and discussing it from morning to night . Just so lovely with the lovely Wogan.

Princess Anne, and her wonderful nature, gives us possibly a glimpse of what her mother may have been like behind her sense of Royal duty and public filter so scrupulously adhered to for so many years. This interview with Princess Anne also reminds us of how lovely she was, much like her mother, before today's audience has cast her as a "senior" figure.

Princess Anne is my favorite royal. She’s down to earth, hardworking, naturally witty, intelligent and you know where you stand with her. She also understood the importance of her role and took it very seriously by doing her duty.
There is a poignant scene in "The Crown" where Elizabeth II and Porchy are having lunch in Kentucky at the end of their horse breeding fact finding tour and she reveals her true feelings about the life she would have preferred. Fact or fiction... who knows? I wonder what life Anne would have preferred. She was still married to Mark Phillips as of this interview, a man whom her elder brother, now King of England, nicknamed, "The Fog" because he was "dense and wet". Anne knew she would never accede to the throne and so she has lived her life as genuinely as possible under the circumstances of her birth. She refused the Queen's offer of titles for her children saying, "I think it was probably easier for them, and I think most people would argue that there are downsides to having titles. So I think that was probably the right thing to do." Smart lady, and the hardest working royal in the bunch.
I agree, they're both beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. William & Anne (especially Anne) don't necessarily realize that they're beautiful on the outside. That's "true beauty." Once again, especially Anne😏 Most importantly, Prince William probably respected and listened to his Aunt Anne's advice on life in regards to how to act professionally and just all around how to treat others with respect. Just a thought I came across🤔 Love from 🇺🇸
