@@garylobo348 the best was when he was told Eddie Arcaro went home and when he asked for Tom Dreesen he was then told "he drove Arcaro home " cue the sad William B. laugh.
_The Sammy Maudlin Show_ was a satire of _The Sammy Davis Show_ , and the latter show was a POS which the former spoofed accurately; the fact that you can't tell the difference between this POS show and a real one shows how touch you and anybody else that's a fan of _SCTV_ who would say that is. But what else is new with idiots like you?
William B ? ??? His show stunk so bad that it registered a new low for the rating system. He bombed worse than McLean Stevenson. William B isn't talented and, while they call him a 2nd Banana, he's really a 3rd Babana at best. You know, and I think that I can speak for everyone, it's the Great Sammy Maudlin, with his kind and caring heart, the is a true Humanitarian for keeping William B employed. Thank you Sammy !!
You asked for a bouncy C. To sing a song for you and me. You sang it and now. You sang it and how. Daa daa daa - Whatever the hell else you want to put in there!
If you can find them, check out "Fernwood Tonight" and then "America Tonight", with the great Martin Mull, Fred Willard, and Happy Kyne and the Mirth Makers!
Sammy really knew how to book guests including the new Soviet premier, vice president of the US, a rock legend, famous TV stars. And all on the same show. Seven guests in all. Way to go Sam-a-lama-ding-dong as William B called Sammy. Sammy had the greatest Talent Coordinator in the business.
Growing up as a kid in the '60s, living in the NYC area, there actually was a DJ on WNEW-AM radio named William B. Williams and his Make Believe Ballroom. Smoothest talking personality with a voice that killed, playing music from a bygone era. RIP.
Such a great show... "He thought he was dragging the ratings down...which he was, actually..." And yet...Sammy brings him back for another go-round because he's doing what he does best, which is to be a second banana, there to make the more talented people look better.
I was certain when William B struck out on his own he was gonna make it. I thought if he just gets some quality guests on like Skip Bittman, he's gonna go places. But it just wasn't to be.
William B's Show Stunk so bad that it clogged the toilet in the SCTV Studios. It really Bombed. I'll bet, and I think that Sammy would back me up on this, William B couldn't even get Fred Mertz or McClean Stephenson on the show. That's how bad it was. Some have said, and I hate to mention it, but One Day At a Time reruns were outscoring his show. So, you know that's pretty bad.
The artifice that was “The Danny Bonaduce Show” infomercials provided some top notch viewing. Whatever happened to his house band “The Critics” and their 3 guitar attack? Special guests included “memory expert” Kevin Trudeau and Grandmaster Tsai who could teach self defense in in just 30 minutes! Anyways, the screwball Sammy Maudlin show was always must see TV as well!
Never realized this was based on a contrived situation with Regis Philbin and Joey Bishop, where Regis left Joey's ABC late night show circa 1967. Turned out it was a plan cooked up by Regis and Joey. So funny.
The once aired William B. William's Show was my all time favorite show of all time.
Just needed more time to find its legs
If only william could have found a third banana to set up less talented people
Right! It was so terrible that it was wonderful!!! That laugh of his was all he ever needed.
steve johnson he needed Bill Needle 🤣

William B.....William B.
William B.'s show would have made it if he hadn't told that damn McLean Stevenson joke. The audience turned on him immediately.
Thanks to social media we can all now have the William B. experience firsthand at least once a week. :/
Breaking his ankle was a disadvantage.
😂😂😂😂 Yep hilarious!
Now that's how you tell a McLean Stevenson joke.
LMAO!
Is this the only time the Sammy Maudlin Show wasn't joined in progress?
I would always tune in to watch The North American Lacrosse League and then catch the end of the Sammy Maudlin Show.
The William B Show, which eventually morphed into the Sammy Maudlin Show.
There was another one. It may have been the "on the waterfront again" episode.
The William B. Show was still better than any of the late night talk shows of today.
Best cold opening ever...

"Can I just say something?"
"NO!"
OMG, there's just nothing better than SCTV in its prime.
One of the all time greatest second bananas - William B. Williams!
Notice how brilliant the guest list all of a sudden became when William B. left? Now that William is back... it's back to Bobby Bittman, I guess!
"you setup the more talented people, like myself" lol
Gimme a "C", gimme a bouncy "C".
You asked for a bouncy C.
To sing a song for you and me.

R.I.P to comedy legend John Candy. He was one of the absolute best and will never be forgotten.
I would watch this show every night!
If you can find them, check out "Fernwood Tonight" and then "America Tonight", with the great Martin Mull, Fred Willard, and Happy Kyne and the Mirth Makers!
I would too!
I'm sure true Melonvilians watched it hourly.
these folks were gifted.....
Sammy Maudlin, king of back-handed and passive aggressive compliments .
What an eclectic guest star list, I would have watched
DH - With the exception of Bush.
John’s laugh just kills me.
William B learned his lesson
Hollywood's greatest second banana!
Nope that would be hey now Hank Kingsley
William B. The legend!! 🤩
SAmmy MaudLin & William.B,quite an unbeateable duo.
I tells you what, I'd rather watch William B's parody over Jay Leno any day of the week!
The William B. Williams show was arguably sctv's best skit, a toss up between that, Celebrity Blow-up, or CCCP TV.
Yep, loved the whole William B. Williams saga! Two great comedians at their prime.
3cp one Russian television today is Moscow
meh i always like brad allen from scrapco
Happy Hour with Happy Marsden was one of my faves..

What you do best is be a second banana. You set up the more talented people like myself.

The Radio Daze of the Past...Hours of Memories. .
The SCTV William B. Character was somewhat based on that guy and a series he was involved in for the ABC network in the 1960s called "Nightlife".
Rest well Joe Flaherty aka Sammy Maudlin, together again with John Candy aka William B. 🙏☹️🍸
🌹💔 Still hurts, and I guess it always will.
"You set up the more talented people like myself" lol ha
The King is here! Just great.
Wickedly hilarious!...Thank you for posting this,...you made an old grump laugh!

Skip’s swimming with the fishes
😂😂😂 Love how Sammy continuously reminds him he's a "second banana " 😂
He didn't take it so well when Lorna Minelli used that term.
John Candy was so good portraying William B and everyone else he created. He was a really talented actor.
What a guest list 👍👍👍😂😂😂
Koo Stark!!!

They say the worst talk show in TV history is The Chevy Chase show.
That was the real life "William B. Show."
They're still lookin' for the pieces on that one Sam
William B and Sammy💕
