Locomotive Be 4/6, The Electrical Marvel of the Gothard Railway Tunnel

The Locomotives Be 4/6 are a monument of the Gothard Tunnel. They were the first to cross it after its electrification in 1921. We go for a ride through the tunnel in the Be 4/6 12320 which is the original one that was the first to cross the Alps powered by electricity.

I can't believe a locomotive like this still runs and here in America we had all these beautiful classic electric locomotives that are just dying or many that were scrapped 😔

These locos were in use in the 1940s and 50s era by Indian railways under DC electric tractions.

Must have been different ones. You can't run AC Locomotives on DC at all. Vice versa would theoretically be possible, but the much higher Voltages of AC Systems (15-25 kV) would blow up DC Locomotives, as they run on 1.5-3kV.
AC Locomotives have a Transformer to reduce the high Voltage from the Catenary to a comparably low Voltage for the Traction Motors. Transformers need AC, thus this Locomotive couldn't work on DC.
