    Gotta say its nice to see these "basic tips" So many of the non-mechanical or "not yet vehicle owner/drivers" viewers may not be know how simple these kind of jobs can be. Then if they want to take it to someone else to dothe work, at least they Know what is really involved. 👍👍👍
    This sure beats cleaning out the oil bath air cleaner by a bunch 😄😄

    Funny. I've done engine swap to rebuilding transmissions and I couldn't figure out on my Tacoma where the engine filter is located. Thanks for the video - it saved me some figuring out.

      When your thermostat fails, that's easy to fix too and will save you even more money although you'll want one of those flexible coiled wrench shafts to get in there and unscrew the 3 nuts on the thermostat housing which are a pain to access. In my opinion, every ratchet kit should come with one of these flexible shafts, but they don't. You can pick one up at home depot for like $12 or something and it quickly pays for itself in time and frustration saved.

    For 2005-2015 Toyota Tacomas equipped with EITHER the 4.0L 1GR-FE or the 2.7L 2TR-FE the change interval for the air filter is every 30,000 miles.

    Thanks for the info. TH-cam has been a godsend for learning DIY stuff. Just fixed my first plumbing break in my house and now I"m moving onto replacing my air filter in my Tacoma. Question for you though. I have a K&N filter now and want to go back to the OEM paper filters. Are there any issues doing that like mods to the casing, etc. that I'd have to deal with or will it be a pretty straight forward switch out? I don't want to get in there and mess something up. Thanks again!

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching Sheri! Are you talking about a drop-in K&N filter or the cone style?

    • @sherik233
      @sherik233 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Um, guess I know what my next step is. I'll be checking to find out. :-)

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it is just the K&N rectangular filter that is the same size as the regular Toyota filters then you can certainly switch back to the Toyota ones at any time. I'd make sure you clean out the intake tube though because the K&N filters have oil on them and the residue could be left behind.

    • @sherik233
      @sherik233 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks again for the help! That makes sense about the residue so I'll make sure to take care of that as well.

    Behind this filter is a screen, mine is dirty and clogged and clearly not sucking enough air because the filter is still clean after 8 months since I changed it. Any advice how to remove this screen and clean it? Thanks for the awesome videos.

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that screen in between the air filter and throttle body is some kind of charcoal thing for emissions. I've heard of some people just cutting it out.

    • @jonstolarski
      @jonstolarski 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Tacomaholic outstanding thank you for the quick reply! There's no way to remove it without breaking something and the air filter will surely catch anything getting sucked in, so long as that filter is changed regularly and doesn't deteriorate. I've been getting code P420 catalytic converter not failed but insufficient. This is an '05 and I'm sure the cat is dirty. I've used that fuel additive once but the code returns. Probably still needs a cat, I see there's actually 2 of them down there. But I'm sure this screen being clogged up to the point of very limited air flow isn't helping anything. Sir, I owe you a 6 pack of imported beer. Thanks again! Subscribed and liked! Happy travels.

    • @jonstolarski
      @jonstolarski 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Tacomaholic okay so I just cut it out and there's actually two screens sandwiched in between them is a charcoal filter what exactly that does I have no idea but after removing the charcoal filter with the first screen I was able to salvage the second layer of screen so there's still an additional screen in between there although it's important to note that when you rip this filter out there's fibers from the filter the charcoal filter that remain and so I imagine it's pretty important to make sure there's not excessive fibers lingering although there is still another screen to catch anything that might try to suck through there. Took me literally 30 seconds to get done I'll let you know if this improves fuel efficiency.

    • @jonstolarski
      @jonstolarski 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Tacomaholic Not only improvement in fuel efficiency but also a noticeable improvement in pickup. Cutting this filthy piece of s*** out probably just saved me countless dollars in gasoline

    What about the filter after that one with the screen over it

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's some kind of emissions filter that is actually part of the intake housing.

    Clean around where it seals before installing new filter. Always some dirt/grime which can get pushed into the engine by installing the new filter over it... Nice disclaimer. I see you were talking to a lawyer friend...

    I'm surprised to see the OEM filter. Why not go for an aftermarket like a k&n?

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've seen a ton of threads on TW where people had all kinds of issues with both K&N and other after market filters where they really hurt the mpgs. Doesn't seem worth it for a small handful of horsepower.

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well that's actually a good deal (based on dealership standards) because if you get the engine and cabin filters changed on separate occasions it would have cost $135. Of course just doing it yourself will cost you about $30 for the filters.
