"Live and Let Die' is the title of a James Bond film from 1973 (w Roger Moore as JB) and this song, obviously, is the theme of the film. Bravo, Paul!! You are the man!
@@susanmurray7654 Yes it is, and I think we all should Listen To What The Man Said about these Silly Love Songs. Hopefully, My Love, With A Little Luck, Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey will both be Coming Up to join us and we'll gladly Let 'Em In.
IMO in 1973, his #1 single from Red Rose Speedway album, My Love, and a TV special, and the Live and Let Die Theme, also went #1, saved Paul McCartney's career from tanking....permanently? Don't know.
Wings Over America Tour was HUge in the Mid 70's. That was a FREEDOM era for America with the Bicentennial celebration we had the Light from the tunnel in our FACES Then. Let's go back to this Feeling and this type of music. Let's Come Together as a Society.
Something like THIS? (Spoiler alert. This is the last five minutes from the 1970's movie "HAIR." If you know it, you'll know why I'm linking to it here. If not, and u don't mind the spoiler, the story is self-explanatory,and it's one of the most moving film segments I know of). Also, I was on the grass in front of the Washington Monument for the 1976 July 4th fireworks show. 4th grade with my family and 100,000 of our closest friends, woohoo!
Yes it certainly was. When I saw him he opened with A Hard Days Night did tributes to each Beatle and a tribute to Jimi Hendrix playing Foxy Lady playing lead guitar.
Agreed. Worth adding that the orchestrated parts are also McCartney and Wings segments. What you hear in the finished product is basically already there on the Wings studio tape before orchestration; George Martin's score dramatises and decorates the instrumentals but doesn't really add any new material. You can find audio on TH-cam of Paul coaching Wings through those parts.
That concert was the same night as my high school graduation in Seattle so I couldn't go. So long ago, time flies! I did get to see Aerosmith later that year in the Kingdome. It sucked as a concert venue, that's for sure.
By now many have already told you it was the theme song of, “Live and Let Die”, Bond James Bond. My first concert I was a month shy of 17, was the Wings Over America tour, Paul McCartney and Wings, and they blew the roof off of the Kingdome on this song…..
A sweet thing was that Roger Moore, who was the new James Bond for this film in 1973 but who had already been a huge star for nearly 20 years, managed to get a tape of this song shortly after it was finished and walked around playing it to the cast and crew on location, excited and effusive about how good he thought it was.
I was 10 years old when “live and let die” came out. I remember going to the movies to see it. I love Paul McCartneys solo work just as much as his Beatles days.
I was 12 and we saw it multiple times it the movie theater because a friend of one of my brothers had a Glastron boat like the one in the movie. ( in the movie production, that type boat made a world record jump over land) and we used to go water skiing behind one..... Definitely not the best boat to try to ski behind, but we had a blast. So this song and the movie hold a special place in my memory. Gosh, the 70's were great.
Paul was asked to write the theme song for the James Bond film, "Live And Let Die", so Paul, the genius that he is, combined a pop song with a James Bond Movie soundtrack. This was a huge hit, and is even better when he plays it live in concerts. You should look up a live video of him playing it, it's amazing.
The Beatles pretty much invented progressive rock, combining orchestral, jazz, folk, psychedelic, avant garde, world music elements with rock and pop songs, adding diffrrent song and instrumental sections together into longer pieces. They clearly do that on Sgt. Pepper, but Rubber Soul and Revolver are moving in that direction too. They weren't alone in expanding the boundaries of 'beat' music but were certainly one of the earliest pioneer bands of what became 'prog'.
When I saw him live in the 90’s, it was him at the piano for this one. And when the get to the part “And if this ever-changing world in which we live in makes you give in and cry . . . “ BOOM! Fireworks and pyrotechnics - “Say live and let die” BOOM! The crowd loved it.
I love how LA began that trademark head shake as soon as the backup vocals kicked in, as if to say, "Here we go. My man Paul has probably thought of everything." 😄
McCartney was the Beatles’ orchestra leader with the grand vision-Mystery Tour, Pepper. Lennon was pure rock and roll. You can hear it here with Wings.
Paul said when he started learning music as a kid, there was no rock and roll, so he figured he'd be writing show/pub songs, and trained himself accordingly. The rest is fantastic history.

Growing up with songs like this on AM radio which was so accessible is one of the reasons those of us raised with that don’t bat an eye at such a diversified banger. So much variety in pop music then - something like this would be followed by Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Derek & the Dominoes. WheN Paul played this for the producer of the Bond movie (same name), The producer laughed and said "quit fooling around and play me the REAL song" Paul assured him that this IS the song!. The producer hated it, but Paul promised it would be a hit. And it was!!!
What I remember is something George Martin said: The movie producer treated McCartney's recording as a demo, and asked Martin who they should get to sing it. Martin told him something like, "No, that's the finished version - take it or leave it." Apparently the Bond producer knew next to nothing about the music scene in 1973, and had no idea how lucky he was to have McCartney on board.
Kozinn and Sinclair found that this story is a misunderstanding, though often retold, even by George Martin himself. The title song was always contracted to be McCartney and Wings, but the song was set to be reprised during the film in a club sequence. Apparently what Broccoli meant was "Who are we going to get to sing it in *that* scene?"
@@strathman7501 Okay, well that clears it up. It's the B.J. Arnau version. It's certainly not the only time George Martin misremembered something in an interview.

A Beatle wouldn’t be writing a Bond movie song.”Waited till the end watched the credits and squealed loudly it was Paul. love this song 🇦🇺🎸⚡️🤘🏿🤘🏼💋❤️
Funny story about this song: saw Paul in concert a couple times. In the beginning of this song, after he sings the first verse, there’s a loud blast (for lack of a better word). In concert, I swear they set off a cannon. Well, when the cannon blasts I screamed, startled. The guy next to me looked at me like “WTF, lady.” My sister was laughing and said “be prepared, it’s coming again.” I *know* the song. And yet, when the second blast comes I screamed again. Everyone laughed at me. 🫤 Also, this is from the James Bond movie of the same name. 🤓
La: "He was a BIG part of the Beatles... HUGE". Yessir. As I heard it, Paul was the glue that held the Beatles together, and as the band became more fragmented, John and George hated Paul for pushing them to work and fighting for better management, rejected him, and the Beatles broke up (media blamed Paul, but John quit first). Oscar winning song for the Bond movie. George Martin didn't produce much or McCartney's solo work. Paul wanted a different sound, but this was a song for a movie, not on a PM album until years later on reissues.
