    I have crashed my drone dozen or more times! I recently crashed on cement and took me out, got a replacement in and when i went to switch the braces over to the new drone, it completely fell apart! now, i don't know as to what crash did me in originally but i was flying & crashing over and over & never knew the true extent of the damage! for sure worth the money!

    I use the prop guards to protect it since you can’t add both at the same time. The prop guards I ordered from Amazon are nice and strong and it doesn’t hurt to plastic dip or wrap the guards with some strong tape.

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a catch-22 because you can't add them both to the drone and they protect it in different ways. I like the braces because I fly fast and low and they help to avoid breaking the front arms in a crash. The prop guards are great too if you're flying near trees or other obstructions. It's a personal choice but I always recommend any protection you can find to help keep this drone flying!

    Howdy Rick, last week, I ordered my DJI PRV drone fly more combo and the motion controller. They should arrived this week. I am also shopping for ND filters and will check out your website and recommendations. I am also seriously considering purchasing the arm bracer kit after listening to your video titled DJI FPV Arm Bracer Kit - Do You Really Need It? As I still consider myself a trainee in flying camera drones (MAVIC PRO & Skydio), these braces are definitely a smart choice. Thank you very much for your words of wisdom.

      Thanks for the post and I'm gld you're enjoying the channel. I think the bracers are a good idea until you get comfortable with the FPV drone and can help you minimize any damage. Stay in Normal mode for a while and take your time when flying in Sport. Switching to Manual mode will be a whole new experience but much easier if you work your way up to it. Good luck and we have a few accessories for the DJI FPV listed and I have a few more I'll be reviewing this week as well. Here's a link to that page - www.dronevalley.com/store/c35/DJI_FPV.html

    I think the brace should have a recoil built in like a mini shock absorber bracing the front and rear arms doubles up the strength to a point but some sort of absorption would be better.

      Thanks for the post and a spring sounds like a great idea but might reek havoc with the flight dynamics of the quad. The Arm Bracers are pretty sleek and don;t have any real impact. I guess the ultimate fix is to avoid hard objects when flying but we all crash sometimes. Stay safe. Rick

    I wonder if you know what is more vital for DJI company - is it more money for the insurance for this stuff in case you crash it or letting its users training on a simulators like for instance Liftoff in order not to crash it so easily. Because so far they don't support the connection of the controller to use this simulator.

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the post and I can promise you that DJI isn't looking for folks to crash their quads. Their replacement service loses money when they have to swap out a quad that has been damaged. The simulator is possible on a PC and should be fully compatible with other OS's really soon. In the meantime you can use the controller with other simulators if you'd like to practice.

    The braces are admission by DJI that the FPV isn't as durable as it should be. Perhaps there should also be braces for the front and back; at least optionally.

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do agree that it's interesting that these were released as an accessory that essentially makes the frame stronger but if you think about things like prop guards and Lipo bags, it sort of makes sense. Most manufacturers sell the basic kit and then let the fliers decide what do-dads they want to pop onto their quad and don't include those in the basic kit. I know as many fliers that will never use prop guards as fliers that will never fly without them so it's a personal choice. These are bit more of a gray area because they really do help to strengthen the quads against crashes. Thanks for the post and stay tuned for more content this week. Rick

      @@Dronevalley I think it helps to remember this is their first FPV drone using the DJI business model of making it for as wide a variety of people as possible such as beginners to FPV, those who are wanting to try it after being into camera drones for some time, and even for some who have been flying FPV for a while. Probably not as much for the established FPV crowd as the rest.
      My point is DJI will learn from their customers what they want then make decisions about future versions based on feedback and financial considerations. This is kinda like threading a needle in many ways. I have high hopes for the upcoming versions which may come sooner than many think. Hopefully they won't find this type of drone to be unworkable in the long term because a lot of people are having a lot of fun with them.

  • @ronsdroneadventures3298
    @ronsdroneadventures3298 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you smash into a tree and push a forward arm backwards you're most likely break the back arm as well with the bracket.....Front arm pushed backwards also forcing the back arm backwards.

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Ron, it's true that the front arm being pushed back will also push the back arm, but by joining them they share the impact and split for the force between them instead of the front arm absorbing all of it. This means less chance of a break. Also, the stabilizer absorbs some of it as well. Think about you pushing one person standing in front of you compared to pushing him again with 2 other people packed in behind him. In which scenario does he move the most? Same thing here. Thanks for the post. Rick

    Great video, but it’s newton’s third law not first law of thermodynamics. First law of thermodynamics does not apply here.

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the post and I was going for the first law "energy cannot be created or destroyed" so when the quad is in motion it's kinetic energy is transferred to the tree and the quad equally when it crashes. The brace helps to spread this force between all 4 arms (and the brace) instead of just the front two. This helps to reduce the stress on these front arms and hopefully avoid a break. I hope I have that right.

    Again this is just further prof the the first DJI FPV drone is badly flawed. There is a reason why most real FPV drones are made of carbon fiber. We have seen these arms break and crack left and right. I'll bet dollars to donuts that the next DJI FPV 2 drone will deal with this problem. Until then I will keep my money in my wallet.

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I appreciate you posting but I still think it's more of a choice for each flier. I'm sure there are a lot of FPV fliers that will never use these on their quads so it's nice that they weren't built into the frame as a permanent brace. I do agree that the design of the FPV quad is unique and that's kind of what DJI is known for. They innovated with the original Mavic Pro years ago and now every company has followed them into the folding drone space. Maybe they're onto something with the bigger design for the FPV. I also understand the argument for carbon fiber and agree that it's stronger but would have made the price astronomical for a larger frame like this. Other FPV frames are typically flat (or two tiered) with a minimum of carbon fiber used so they're reasonably priced. We'll have to see how this all shakes out but in the meantime, I'm having a lot of fun with this quad.

    Another flaw in the first DJI FPV drone, is the fact that you land on the battery. If the DJI engineers had come to me with that design I would have chewed their asses, and sent them back to the drawing board...what were they thinking??

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree that they made some bold choices and the battery mounting was an interesting one. To be fair though, every cell phone on the market has it's battery mounted right behind the rear of the case and every time you drop it or put it down hard on a table, you're shocking it. The chemistry in the batteries isn't really at risk, it's more about the connection to the quad that matters. I think we'll see several more models of FPV quads from DJI this year that you'll be able to fly with the goggles and the controller. Stay tuned for updates.

    • @kirbyvacuummadman1814
      @kirbyvacuummadman1814 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dronevalley I'm not sure comparing a phone with a drone, that lands on it's battery each and every time is a fair or even good comparison. One thing I have learned about DJI they always improve their drones the second time around. I own the Mavic 2 zoom, and the DJI mini 2. I love the concept of the DJI FPV drone and they are on the right track, but again I'm sure the DJI FPV 2 drone will be a better buy for those like me who are willing to wait, and have their money better spent...keep up the good work. I'll be watching.

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kirbyvacuummadman1814James, what I meant by the comparison is that Li-Po or Li-Ion batteries are semi-solid objects and not affected by shock at all. So landing on the back of the battery has no real effect on the life or the operation unless it cracks open the case and exposes the chemicals to water or air. The only concern is the chance of the connection dislodging between the battery and the drone to interrupt power. The good news is that if the shock of landing causes this, you're already on the ground. Also, the connection for the DJP FPV drone is done externally through a connection cable that provide flex to minimize any impact. I know a few channels are making a big deal about the quad landing on the back of the battery, but I feel it's a bit of a red herring. I do agree that this is the first FPV drone from DJI and they will develop more of these soon so stay tuned for updates on their gear. Thanks for the support!

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the post and if you're that close to a tree you're already in trouble :) Actually tying the arms together is better because it distributes the energy equally between them, which means the each only have to make it through half of the impact. The ultimate goal is to miss things, but all of crash sometimes. Happy flying!

      Thanks for the post and I do fly a ton and have posted a lot of clips with flight footage in them. To be honest, these get a little boring for viewers after a while. My channel is more about reviewing new tech, including drones, and I spend a lot of time diving into what makes this gear work. There is little debate that DJI has introduced many innovative and seminal features with their quads and currently dominate the RTF camera drone space. They have their sights clearly focused on FPV next and I wouldn't bet against them.
      There are plenty of channels out there posting flight clips if you're into that. I fly for pleasure and to test out new drones and other high-tech gear to help folks understand the benefits of this fast changing landscape. I get that you're deep into FPV and that's great, but a little less snark would make you and your channel more productive. The ethos with most nerds (like me) isn't competitive, but cooperative and we'd rather help someone instead of tearing them down. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing here and if folks continue to enjoy the clips, I'll keep posting. It seems to be working so far and I have a lot of fun doing it. If you're not enjoying these, simply change the channel.
