I bought this little gem to get my girlfriend into shooting. There is very little to worry about as far as how to work it(safeties, slide release, mag release) so it helped with the intimidation at the gun range full of people. She felt very comfortable to shoot and reload she forgot about all the guns going off all around her. Great tool to acclimate her to the 4 basic safety rules. She is already up to shooting the 20ga mossy and loving every minute of it. I owe it to this little revolver.
In 1969, working as a mourge orderly, the first dead guy I ever saw had been shot dead by his wife with a .22LR from 10 feet while they were arguing in their bedroom. One shot directly to the heart. Game over man. Two or three .22's in the throat will most certainly hit a large blood vessel or the windpipe that will absolutely stop an attacker.
Bought one of these as a fun gun and it's actually ended up replacing my Smith 642 for pocket carry. With quicker follow up shots, 3 extra rounds, and cheaper and more comfortable practice (which translates to MORE practice), I feel completely safe with this gun. Nice review Hickok, as usual.
@@Hakunamatata51101neither to the arm or leg is going to stop the type of threat that would require shooting like an enraged drug addict or other psycho. They may bleed out an hour later but that won’t do you much good if they’ve stabbed you in the heart. All pistol calibers do basically the same thing cause of the short barrel of a typical carry gun. Unless you’re packing a 44 magnum with a 6 inch barrel, shot placement is king. So carry a gun that you can actually shoot well in a bad situation and for a ton of people that would be a 22.

Picked up the LCR 22 lr today. My wife has had surgery on her right palm/wrist in the past. As we have enjoyed our SP101's .357... it was time for her to step down in caliber ... and this seems much easier anyway for conceal. Ruger makes speed loaders for the LCR .22 now. I got one... and its VERY well made. I will likely get a couple more as money permits. Its right on their website/store. We keep CCI Stinger ammo loaded for use.
I love being able to see those little .22 round in flight. I don't think I've seen that before with .22's. I see it fairly often with .45's and 9mm's given their size. Seeing a handgun bullet in flight really puts things in perspective for me, handguns really aren't all that powerful.
Wow - great shooting, as usual! Hard to argue against small guns with short barrels when you're hitting the gong at 80 yards!! Looks like a great retirement gift to me!

I bought one a little over a year ago, and aside from a factory defect (sent it back to ruger and it was fixed) I've had a blast with it. A really fun plinker.
My wife hasn't shot in awhile. Bought this for her. Definate training wheels gun. She's shot larger 38 special +P out of K frames with ease. Eight controllable rounds is better than hitting nothing with an Airweight .38 special
So glad you got this. I liked my LCR 357, I bought the same 22 LR model and shot it at the range having paper target fun for hours. It was comfortable, I can hit with it easily, it is comfortable in ankle holster carry, and fits my hand with that grip like it was made for it. I bought a speed loader with wooden trays you load the speed loader from to maximize range shooting time and that just added to the fun and quick reloads. It ended up being one of my favorite range guns.
Hey, keep that quiet, will you?. The remote control system that tips them over and the sound system with speakers over there in the trees that broadcasts the lead-hitting-steel effects was very, very expensive! :-)
I love your reviews. I actually got this for my mom who's in her 50's, never shot before and is a bit jumpy. Wanted a revolver so it was easier for her to know the functions. When she saw me shoot a m&p shield 9mm she almost jumped out of her shoes just from the sound alone. I wanted her to have something she felt comfortable with and this just works for her.
+J Muhr just shot the m&p shield 9mm today. First gun. Really enjoyed it. Had a few ejection problems, but those went away after the first few mags. No problems after. Recoil would be a bit much for a mom though. Well, some moms.
Only time I"ve had that was with a very old S&W with many thousands of rounds through it. I think it's the trigger return spring that gets worn. I've never had it with a carry gun or newer gun, though. I can tell when the spring starts to get weak, so it's off to my gunsmith!
"Big Box" stores virtually always have a policy where they escort you to the door with your newly purchased firearm to make sure you take it out and put it in your car right away. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from making this mistake about 16 years ago when I bought my Marlin Cowboy Model 94 levergun at Sports Authority. I could not find one anywhere else.
although i carry various cal's for self defence ,22 is one of my favorites for conceal carry ..but i still love my smith mod 36,J frame...nice vid ...thanks...
Got this one for my wife. She simply could not handle the recoil of a larger ammo. Quality little handgun. Fills the need. Keep the vids coming Hickok.
This is my survival revolver I have in my backpack for emergencies. Small, light and perfect for survival small game hunting. I also have a Ruger LCR chambered in .357 Magnum for a CCW. Ruger revolvers are amazing and I have yet to find one that beats it.
And there we have it. Proof positive that you don't need a long barrel for accuracy. I was very impressed by that little gun, and as always, very impressed by your shooting. Another great video, keep up the good work.

For all the "Caliber warriors" out there... Anyone fancy been shot with /shot at with this gun at 7 yards ..EIGHT TIMES... NO I DID NOT THINK SO. This sweet little gun can be used as a home defense gun ... You get shot with this in the head or heart with a .22 LR it is GAME OVER... Added into the mix is low recoil for faster follow up shots... Added into the mix is revolver reliable ... NO jam ups to worry about... I would trust this little gun to save my life from a home invader ... A MILLION times better than nothing.. Please take no notice of all the fools who say ... You need at least a .357 magnum to stop a home invader ... You could use this gun for a home protector... You would just have to be RUTHLESS with the shots .. Aim for the head face eyes neck ... You have EIGHT chances...
Personally, 22 magnum is the minimum caliber to me. Sure a 22lr can get the job done, but you can't rely on it to, at least out of a short barrel. (Out of a 4 inch or longer barrel you are good) With 22 magnum, you can at least rely on it to penetrate deep enough to do something from any barrel length.
I agree with everything. I now have one of these in both 38 and 22LR. The original in 38 Special I hate shooting. The felt recoil sucks. I would much rather carry the 22LR. The only problem with 22LR is not the power. It's the reliability. 22LR is just not as reliable. And if I was going to use this as my back-up gun, that matters a lot.
@@RabbiSteve I have the LCR 38 and yeah that recoil will bark at ya'. I bought the longer Hogue grips that come on the 3" LCRXs and put it on my 2" LCR and am now able to shot all day with it. With the smaller grip my hand would need a rest at about 25 rounds or so. It is longer though, so that's something to consider.

A .22 might not be the greatest self-defense caliber, but I think it's okay. The .22 was meant to be a self-defense caliber, all the way back in the 1850's when .22 short was invented. It was what the S&W Model 1 was chambered in, & that was a small concealable revolver that wasn't meant for target shooting or use out on the trail. With some of today's advanced .22 LR cartridges and eight rounds at your disposal that little gem could make two or three bad guys very sorry they picked the wrong person to victimize.
Hickok, love your videos and congrats on retiring. My father was a teacher for 38 years and the job changed so much throughout his career. Even in the 12 years I've been out of school. Congrats on making it and enjoy retirement!
I picked one of these up for $425 and have been extremely happy with it. I bought it for cheap practice with a hard to shoot gun, and with the long DAO and really light weight, it's difficult and rewarding to shoot. It's also a pretty great kit gun for camping or woods walking, for snakes and stuff like that. It seriously weighs nothing.
I was at a gun store near work about 45 minutes away when I was told I would have a year or so to wait, tried on just down the road, now the owner of a.357 LCR. Shoots great!!! Tried both .38's and .357's. at 20 feet no problems at all. put all in center of an 8" in plate. The .357 does have a kick, wouldn't want to shoot it all day, but definitely manageable. Trigger pull on the one I took home was just like all the LCR's that I'd checked out in the store. Great gun.
I sold my Ruger LCR .22 since the trigger pull came in at around 14 Lbs. I understand that is normal for a .22 trigger. I much more prefer something around 8 lbs trigger pull. Great video Hickok!
This might be the first firearm I purchase. I can get a lot of trigger time for a low cost and , I imagine, if I can get proficient with something like this I'll be off to a good start.
Someone once asked a friend of mine at a gun show why anyone might carry a .22 "pea shooter" as a defensive weapon. She asked him if they'd be willing to stand down range and take 8 rounds in the body cavity. They declined.
First time buyer here and this video definitely helped make my decision on what to get! this seems like the ideal firearm for practice and self defense. Much appreciated :)
glad you mentioned the hearing. My hearing was ruined as a kid with lots of .22 revolver shooting and no ear protection. My ears ring all the time, and have gotten louder even though I got smarter and started wearing ear protection. I couldn't get into the military because of my hearing loss.
I read (in another review) that the .22 magnum, in the LCR's short barrel, only gains 30 fps out the muzzle. Why would anyone prefer that over the .22lr? Ammo is more expensive for little gain in stopping power.
You just reminded me of the High Standard Sentinel 22 revolver I wanted so badly years ago. It was a 9 shot snubby. I didn't have enough money then but now I have an LCR like that one and that's fine.
I really like this video and watch it over and over. I've got this LCR too. One thing I've not seen anyone comment specifically about, here or any of the other .22lr videos, is getting hit with a 22lr, not once but 2 or 3 of them. With no recoil to speak of, you could hit an assailant rapidly and repeatedly with a gun such as this. 1 round might indeed piss them off but the next round or two fired in quick succession would be a different story. I DON'T WANT to have to shoot anyone!!! But I think my odds against me or my family being harmed would be lessened if I had to shoot with a 22lr and be able to get a couple quick rounds to connect to make the aggressor stop what he/she is doing.
I put a Crimson Trace Green Laser sight on my Ruger LCR .22 magnum and it's a lot of fun at the range. Deadly accurate. It's a lethal weapon now. The laser sight is a class 3 laser. Very bright even in broad daylight. It comes with two warning stickers you have to put on the gun that say "Warning: Laser". Very cute. Very accurate.
Hey Hickok, i bought the LCR 22 Mag for my fiancee. She used it during our concealed weapons test. It's perfect for her. We had a small problem with the ejector star when i first bought it though. I took it back to the store i bought it from and their gunsmith filed it down for free though. Now it's perfect.
Great video (as always). I got one of these for my girlfriend and we both love it. It's a great training gun due to the challenge of the short sight radius and the long, heavyish trigger pull.
I just got an LCR in .22 cal and paid $299. Got it for my wife. Yes it was brand new from Sportsman Warehouse. I also picked up 1000 rounds of .22 when I bought the gun. Life is Good!
I love mine,just shot it today. Bought it for my girlfriend and she did not like the trigger. Now I almost always bring it with me to the range and finish up my session with some 22LR. Awesome,accurate little gun that is alot of fun to shoot.
I totally agree, a short barrel does not give up accuracy. It's more about sight radius than barrel length. I shoot my Ruger SP101 .357 mag with a 2" barrel at 60 yards on a 6"x9" target and hit about 50%, compared to my Smith & Wesson 9mm semi auto with a 4" barrel I hit maybe 20%. If the gun fits the hand, and you shoot it enough to intimately learn the trigger pull feel and break point, you'll shoot it good. A longer sight radius will always help, but actual barrel length won't help much.
From the Ruger Owners Manual for all caliber LCR's (including the 22) "DRY FIRING: “Dry Firing” is pulling the trigger of an unloaded revolver for practice and familiarity. The LCR ® can be dry-fired without damage to the firing pin or internal components."
Looks like a great little gun and even if you don't use it for self defense, you can certainly use it to train up inexperienced shooters much less expensively than a 38 or 9MM.
Awesome vid Kickok45! When I took my CC class a while back we had a retired Medical Examiner in our class. The man had over 25 years on the job in a major east coast city. He said, and I quote "If everyone actually learned how to shoot, and the importance of shot placement, no one would need to carry anything bigger than a .22, and if everyone did learn, the death rate from gun violence would actually increase." A md examiners word IMO holds more weight. They see first hand what it's capable of.
You are dead on about who would want to use this for defense. My wife is looking at one for carry right now. A year ago she wold not have considered it , she was afraid of guns, and was not really comfortable with me having them until about 3 years ago when we had a close call. After that she was good with me carrying, and grew to the point that she doesn't go some places unless I am there and armed. She have fired my 9 mm once, and will not touch it. She can handle a .22, and likes the double action, with no hammer. It is all about baby steps. This little gun is better then a whistle of a stick.
Own two of these...one for me and one for my wife. Like the gun quite a bit, but the long trigger pull really seems to impact accuracy at longer distances. Practice with cheap .22LR, but use .22LR CCI Mini-Mags when kept "at the ready". Fun to shoot and should buy me time to get to my carbine ;) Great review on a great little revolver. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. My wife has the LCR in .22LR with the Laser grips. As you said in the video, her health (namely a bad shoulder), prevents her from feeling comfortable with a .380 or 9mm. I also liked to plunk with it and bought the .22 WMR for myself just to work on aiming. If you get the chance try it, I find it a bit more difficult to maintain the sight picture with the trigger pull myself.

I went to my uncles he handed me a old style S&W box he said look what our cousin gave me. I was a new J frame nickel .22 , I guess it was 30 years old and unfired. Have a nice Day
I agree there is a niche for guns like this. I am not a caliber snob. I'm a Private Investigator and usually carry my Walther PPK in 380. I get snickers from other guys about this. They insist I should carry a 40, 45, or 9MM minimum. I also have a Ruger LC9 in 9MM. But between the two I like the PPK more. May carry the LC9 in the winter. Bottom line for CCW is shot placement! I don't look down on any handgun, including 22's.
Thanks for the info. The trigger freeze was with my thirty-two year old Charter Arms Pathfinder. I thought the problem was a stuck cylinder stop pin. I oiled it and the trigger freeze hasn't recurred. But I believe you're correct about the trigger return spring. I've fired this trusty old revolver hundreds of times. The trip to a gunsmith is probably prohibitively expensive. It's time to retire my faithful sidearm.
Don't let the grip on this gun dictate where you place your thumb. You can get a really easy and accurate pull on this revolver but you need to experiment a bit with your grip. If you have trouble with the heavy trigger pull with your distal phalanx on the trigger, try pulling with your middle phalanx and you will get a good feel for where the trigger breaks. The flesh of the tip of my trigger finger just touches the rear of the trigger guard as the trigger breaks and I can aim very accurately and maintain my aim at this point. With my hand gripping this way, my thumb does not lie in the indentation in the grip, but above it or even over the back of the frame. I really like this pistol and have no trouble with the heavy pull since finding where my hand likes to be. Lefties won't be as tempted to use that grip indentation on the left hand side.
On the self defense part. My girlfriend loves shooting the AK, but when we get into handguns she HATES glock 17/26 because they are "too jumpy." She likes my Sig 1911, but has a hard time with the recoil and force to rack the slide. So with hers, we got a Rugar 22/24 (since she shot the 1911 on target so well.) She loves that thing, sleeps with it, and is so happy. That means she trains on a 1911 with low recoil in a sense and LOVES it (low recoil, easy to manipulate). Train small, move up!

My Father has that exact pistol with a crimson trace laser on it. Shoots well, the double action only takes some getting used to but like you say Hickok... its better than throwing a rock.

Own larger calibers but have no qualms whatsoever carrying my "little" guns for SD. They're all lethal and ALL calibers have pluses and minuses. One big advantage with "little" guns that I hardly ever hear discussed concerns missed shots. I'd sure rather miss a shot with a smaller round than one that's going to go through a couple of walls and a few rhinoceri on its way to killing somone in the next county. Or, putting it another way, I'd be a lot more comfortable using this .22 in a situation where there's innocent people in the vicinity while a larger caliber might make me hesitate for a split-second that I don't have.
Think of it this way: revolvers have two actions which must be done in order for them to fire, cocking the hammer (and rotating the cylinder) and dropping the hammer. Single and Double action refers to whether pulling the trigger performs both of these actions or simply drops the hammer. Many double action revolvers can function either way (the hammer can be cocked manually for a much lighter trigger pull). Double action is typically a longer and heavier pull than single action.

To me the easiest and simplest handgun you could start someone out with, would be a 22 revolver.

I've scene more people shot with 22's, 25's and 32's. They were either dead or on the ground bleeding and screaming.

As long as it's a well placed bullet, I see no reason that you can't use a .22 for self defense.
My personal experience with the little revolver is it goes bang every time

Exactly why I bought this for myself. More likely to get multiple shots in with this than zero with higher caliber. Female 55 y.o.

My wife selected an LCR in .38 for her carry gun and it has since become one of my favorites. Something about the LCR makes'em fun to shoot.
I picked one of these up as a compliment to my .357 LCR. Makes a great practice gun and is just plain fun to shoot.
It's a good backpack gun in some ways. Simple, reliable, A quality revolver always works.

Got this one for my wife. She simply could not handle the recoil of a larger ammo. Quality little handgun. Fills the need. Keep the vids coming Hickok.
This is my survival revolver I have in my backpack for emergencies. Small, light and perfect for survival small game hunting. I also have a Ruger LCR chambered in .357 Magnum for a CCW. Ruger revolvers are amazing and I have yet to find one that beats it.
And there we have it. Proof positive that you don't need a long barrel for accuracy.
I was very impressed by that little gun, and as always, very impressed by your shooting.

Your mention of a Revelation revolver brought back good memories! Used a 6" HS Sentinel WAY back in the day! Always wished I'd bought a Sentinal Snub! Those HS and H&R 9 shots were/are great guns!
BTW, the Revelation brand from Western Auto also brought back thoughts of my first handgun (Daisy 179) much ammo, good knives and tools!! Another good, old-fashioned hardware store, long-gone!

This sweet little gun can be used as a home defense gun ... You get shot with this in the head or heart with a .22 LR it is GAME OVER...
Added into the mix is low recoil for faster follow up shots...
Added into the mix is revolver reliable ... NO jam ups to worry about... I would trust this little gun to save my life from a home invader ... A MILLION times better than nothing..
Please take no notice of all the fools who say ... You need at least a .357 magnum to stop a home invader ...
You could use this gun for a home protector... You would just have to be RUTHLESS with the shots .. Aim for the head face eyes neck ...

Personally, 22 magnum is the minimum caliber to me. Sure a 22lr can get the job done, but you can't rely on it to, at least out of a short barrel. (Out of a 4 inch or longer barrel you are good) With 22 magnum, you can at least rely on it to penetrate deep enough to do something from any barrel length.

I agree with everything. I now have one of these in both 38 and 22LR. The original in 38 Special I hate shooting. The felt recoil sucks. I would much rather carry the 22LR. The only problem with 22LR is not the power. It's the reliability. 22LR is just not as reliable. And if I was going to use this as my back-up gun, that matters a lot.
@@RabbiSteve I have the LCR 38 and yeah that recoil will bark at ya'. I bought the longer Hogue grips that come on the 3" LCRXs and put it on my 2" LCR and am now able to shot all day with it. With the smaller grip my hand would need a rest at about 25 rounds or so. It is longer though, so that's something to consider.

A .22 might not be the greatest self-defense caliber, but I think it's okay. The .22 was meant to be a self-defense caliber, all the way back in the 1850's when .22 short was invented. It was what the S&W Model 1 was chambered in, & that was a small concealable revolver that wasn't meant for target shooting or use out on the trail. With some of today's advanced .22 LR cartridges and eight rounds at your disposal that little gem could make two or three bad guys very sorry they picked the wrong person to victimize.
Hickok, love your videos and congrats on retiring. My father was a teacher for 38 years and the job changed so much throughout his career. Even in the 12 years I've been out of school. Congrats on making it and enjoy retirement!

I picked one of these up for $425 and have been extremely happy with it. I bought it for cheap practice with a hard to shoot gun, and with the long DAO and really light weight, it's difficult and rewarding to shoot. It's also a pretty great kit gun for camping or woods walking, for snakes and stuff like that. It seriously weighs nothing.
I was at a gun store near work about 45 minutes away when I was told I would have a year or so to wait, tried on just down the road, now the owner of a.357 LCR. Shoots great!!! Tried both .38's and .357's. at 20 feet no problems at all. put all in center of an 8" in plate. The .357 does have a kick, wouldn't want to shoot it all day, but definitely manageable. Trigger pull on the one I took home was just like all the LCR's that I'd checked out in the store. Great gun.

I sold my Ruger LCR .22 since the trigger pull came in at around 14 Lbs. I understand that is normal for a .22 trigger. I much more prefer something around 8 lbs trigger pull. Great video Hickok!
This might be the first firearm I purchase. I can get a lot of trigger time for a low cost and , I imagine, if I can get proficient with something like this I'll be off to a good start.
Someone once asked a friend of mine at a gun show why anyone might carry a .22 "pea shooter" as a defensive weapon. She asked him if they'd be willing to stand down range and take 8 rounds in the body cavity. They declined.

glad you mentioned the hearing. My hearing was ruined as a kid with lots of .22 revolver shooting and no ear protection. My ears ring all the time, and have gotten louder even though I got smarter and started wearing ear protection. I couldn't get into the military because of my hearing loss.

I read (in another review) that the .22 magnum, in the LCR's short barrel, only gains 30 fps out the muzzle. Why would anyone prefer that over the .22lr? Ammo is more expensive for little gain in stopping power.
it definately has more punch and 22mag is more reliable made better and louder

You just reminded me of the High Standard Sentinel 22 revolver I wanted so badly years ago. It was a 9 shot snubby. I didn't have enough money then but now I have an LCR like that one and that's fine.
This .22 also makes a great understudy or training tool to its larger defensive brothers in .38 and .357. The latter being a serious handful.
Ruger really missed the mark when they made the 22 mag version of this revolver with a 6 shot cylinder.
I'd rather have the 6 shot 22 mag than the 8 shot lr.
agreed, they should have tried and gotten 7 shots in there, had they figured out 8 shots for it, they would have cornered the 22mag market

22 mag is also more reliable than lr apparently. Also more power to defend your self.
I really like this video and watch it over and over. I've got this LCR too. One thing I've not seen anyone comment specifically about, here or any of the other .22lr videos, is getting hit with a 22lr, not once but 2 or 3 of them. With no recoil to speak of, you could hit an assailant rapidly and repeatedly with a gun such as this. 1 round might indeed piss them off but the next round or two fired in quick succession would be a different story. I DON'T WANT to have to shoot anyone!!! But I think my odds against me or my family being harmed would be lessened if I had to shoot with a 22lr and be able to get a couple quick rounds to connect to make the aggressor stop what he/she is doing.

I put a Crimson Trace Green Laser sight on my Ruger LCR .22 magnum and it's a lot of fun at the range. Deadly accurate. It's a lethal weapon now. The laser sight is a class 3 laser. Very bright even in broad daylight. It comes with two warning stickers you have to put on the gun that say "Warning: Laser". Very cute. Very accurate.
Hey Hickok, i bought the LCR 22 Mag for my fiancee. She used it during our concealed weapons test. It's perfect for her.
We had a small problem with the ejector star when i first bought it though. I took it back to the store i bought it from and their gunsmith filed it down for free though. Now it's perfect.
Great video (as always). I got one of these for my girlfriend and we both love it. It's a great training gun due to the challenge of the short sight radius and the long, heavyish trigger pull.
I have the Ruger LCR 38 and love it! Ruger does a great job with the polymers.
Yes, they actually do, it's been out for awhile now. It is newer than the .22 mag version however

I just got an LCR in .22 cal and paid $299. Got it for my wife. Yes it was brand new from Sportsman Warehouse. I also picked up 1000 rounds of .22 when I bought the gun. Life is Good!
I love mine,just shot it today. Bought it for my girlfriend and she did not like the trigger. Now I almost always bring it with me to the range and finish up my session with some 22LR. Awesome,accurate little gun that is alot of fun to shoot.

I bought one of these for my wife. She carries it in her purse. We run CCI 40 grain mini mags through all of our .22's. They work the best.
Make sure you have it in a good holster when it's in the purse.

I totally agree, a short barrel does not give up accuracy. It's more about sight radius than barrel length. I shoot my Ruger SP101 .357 mag with a 2" barrel at 60 yards on a 6"x9" target and hit about 50%, compared to my Smith & Wesson 9mm semi auto with a 4" barrel I hit maybe 20%. If the gun fits the hand, and you shoot it enough to intimately learn the trigger pull feel and break point, you'll shoot it good. A longer sight radius will always help, but actual barrel length won't help much.

Every time i watch Hickok's videos i suddenly have a feeling i need to own whatever he is shooting.
Looks like a great little gun and even if you don't use it for self defense, you can certainly use it to train up inexperienced shooters much less expensively than a 38 or 9MM.
Awesome vid Kickok45! When I took my CC class a while back we had a retired Medical Examiner in our class. The man had over 25 years on the job in a major east coast city. He said, and I quote "If everyone actually learned how to shoot, and the importance of shot placement, no one would need to carry anything bigger than a .22, and if everyone did learn, the death rate from gun violence would actually increase." A md examiners word IMO holds more weight. They see first hand what it's capable of.

You are dead on about who would want to use this for defense. My wife is looking at one for carry right now. A year ago she wold not have considered it , she was afraid of guns, and was not really comfortable with me having them until about 3 years ago when we had a close call. After that she was good with me carrying, and grew to the point that she doesn't go some places unless I am there and armed. She have fired my 9 mm once, and will not touch it. She can handle a .22, and likes the double action, with no hammer. It is all about baby steps. This little gun is better then a whistle of a stick.
Own two of these...one for me and one for my wife. Like the gun quite a bit, but the long trigger pull really seems to impact accuracy at longer distances. Practice with cheap .22LR, but use .22LR CCI Mini-Mags when kept "at the ready". Fun to shoot and should buy me time to get to my carbine ;) Great review on a great little revolver. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. My wife has the LCR in .22LR with the Laser grips. As you said in the video, her health (namely a bad shoulder), prevents her from feeling comfortable with a .380 or 9mm. I also liked to plunk with it and bought the .22 WMR for myself just to work on aiming. If you get the chance try it, I find it a bit more difficult to maintain the sight picture with the trigger pull myself.

I went to my uncles he handed me a old style S&W box he said look what our cousin gave me. I was a new J frame nickel .22 , I guess it was 30 years old and unfired. Have a nice Day

I agree there is a niche for guns like this. I am not a caliber snob. I'm a Private Investigator and usually carry my Walther PPK in 380. I get snickers from other guys about this. They insist I should carry a 40, 45, or 9MM minimum. I also have a Ruger LC9 in 9MM. But between the two I like the PPK more. May carry the LC9 in the winter. Bottom line for CCW is shot placement! I don't look down on any handgun, including 22's.
ANY gun in your hand is better than EVERY gun you left at home!!

Thanks for the info. The trigger freeze was with my thirty-two year old Charter Arms Pathfinder. I thought the problem was a stuck cylinder stop pin. I oiled it and the trigger freeze hasn't recurred. But I believe you're correct about the trigger return spring. I've fired this trusty old revolver hundreds of times. The trip to a gunsmith is probably prohibitively expensive. It's time to retire my faithful sidearm.

Don't let the grip on this gun dictate where you place your thumb. You can get a really easy and accurate pull on this revolver but you need to experiment a bit with your grip. If you have trouble with the heavy trigger pull with your distal phalanx on the trigger, try pulling with your middle phalanx and you will get a good feel for where the trigger breaks. The flesh of the tip of my trigger finger just touches the rear of the trigger guard as the trigger breaks and I can aim very accurately and maintain my aim at this point. With my hand gripping this way, my thumb does not lie in the indentation in the grip, but above it or even over the back of the frame. I really like this pistol and have no trouble with the heavy pull since finding where my hand likes to be. Lefties won't be as tempted to use that grip indentation on the left hand side.
On the self defense part. My girlfriend loves shooting the AK, but when we get into handguns she HATES glock 17/26 because they are "too jumpy." She likes my Sig 1911, but has a hard time with the recoil and force to rack the slide. So with hers, we got a Rugar 22/24 (since she shot the 1911 on target so well.) She loves that thing, sleeps with it, and is so happy. That means she trains on a 1911 with low recoil in a sense and LOVES it (low recoil, easy to manipulate). Train small, move up!

I like the way you can stage the trigger on the LCR. Almost single action accuracy.
As a guy more than half of Hickok's age, I would, without hesitation, buy a round of beers with him and talk to him about firearms all day.
My Father has that exact pistol with a crimson trace laser on it. Shoots well, the double action only takes some getting used to but like you say Hickok... its better than throwing a rock.

Own larger calibers but have no qualms whatsoever carrying my "little" guns for SD. They're all lethal and ALL calibers have pluses and minuses.
One big advantage with "little" guns that I hardly ever hear discussed concerns missed shots. I'd sure rather miss a shot with a smaller round than one that's going to go through a couple of walls and a few rhinoceri on its way to killing somone in the next county. Or, putting it another way, I'd be a lot more comfortable using this .22 in a situation where there's innocent people in the vicinity while a larger caliber might make me hesitate for a split-second that I don't have.

Think of it this way: revolvers have two actions which must be done in order for them to fire, cocking the hammer (and rotating the cylinder) and dropping the hammer. Single and Double action refers to whether pulling the trigger performs both of these actions or simply drops the hammer. Many double action revolvers can function either way (the hammer can be cocked manually for a much lighter trigger pull). Double action is typically a longer and heavier pull than single action.
22LR is a rimfire round. The "primer" is incorporated into the rim of the cartridge. The firing pin hits the rim and fires the round.
