Capacity ? Last weekend a midnight chicago street party emptied out in 30 seconds when someone fired a round. A round. No one stood there and wondered the caliber or drew his gun ready for a gun fight.

Exactly. I tell people concerned of larger calibers (mainly newer shooters either due to recoil or cost) and asking about a 22lr… the 22lr lacks the stopping power but a well placed shot cans get the job done. That and when bullets start flying and it’s no longer a soft target… the attacker isn’t thinking about what caliber is coming their way.

I got one for my sister. She has a nerve condition almost like arthritus, but it really hampers her ability to shoot. Forget a semi-auto. Even the 380 EZ that Smith came out with she cannot rack the slide. This was her only choice. I got her the Ruger LCR in 22 magnum. She got her CCP and it lives with her. So consider this if you are physically challenged in any way. Trust me, it's better to confront an intruder with any gun rather than a sharpened spatula.

@@precisionrodentcontrol_PRC That was the only issue. The LCR has a huge, hard trigger pull. When she first tried it I was worried she couldn't do it. After some different gripping techniques she was able to crack off a box of 50. But that was it. But in a real life scenario, her adrenaline will give her the extra strength to rapid fire probably faster than a real autoloader! lol

There's a lot going for it:
    1. A revolver is more reliable for .22LR
    2. Controllable for a v. small pistol
    3. Zero chance of limp-wrist malfunction.
    4. Controllable shooting one-handed (a possibility in a self-defense situation).
    5. Super cheap ammo for practice.
    6. Simplicity of a revolver.

Actually found out about the S&W 43C on another venue about a week ago and I was so impressed, I bought one. Federal Punch 22LR shot accuracy in the 43C was impressive and ballistic gel results were also impressive. My wife is recoil sensitive and the light weight was another plus. As Jeff Cooper once said "A pistol beats NO pistol" and it also beats just "harsh words" if that's all you have. CCI also has 22LR hollow point Varmit load which might make a good carry load. Been watching you Hickok for years.

I got my 43c from my local outfitter, it was a pretty penny. It shaved and spit lead badly and the trigger stuck to the rear a couple of times. I figured I'd just learn to live with it, thinking it would break-in eventually. I mentioned this to a friend of mine and he suggested I send it back to S&W and have it examined. So I sent it back, it was returned having had the forcing cone cut, a repaired extractor, they repaired the yoke and also repaired the hand. It took about 6 weeks to get it back. This little revolver is unbelievably light, but the overall exspence for me was high. If I were to do it again, I'd go with the Ruger.

Great video. Another consideration is how loud .22 LR is vs .38 spl. Obviously it's better to be alive and have bad hearing than dead with no hearing, but self defense scenarios often mean you won't have any ear pro. Tinnitus is no joke and for people who already have it and/or sensitive ears, 22 LR might be a good option to consider there, on top of the weight, low recoil, etc. A .22 LR is better than no gun!

I’ve been looking for a used 43c for years and still have yet to see one at four local gun shops. I had the LCR but traded it in because I found it too big for pocket carry and the trigger was bad for me. I continually short stroked it. Before you start saying that I simply need to learn how to work a revolver, I have a number of them and I have never had this problem before.
Anyway, can’t find the 43c anywhere used, but I have seen the LCR numerous times. I think that’s an indication of quality differences between the two.

Many years ago, a friend of mine was shot at close range with a .22LR in the abdomen. He lived to say that it knocked him down as if he had been hit by a truck. The impact knocked him down instantly and there was nothing he could do but lay there in pain, waiting for help. This guy was about 5'10" and 180 lbs and fit. So I am here to tell you that a little squeaky .22 can and will take down a fully grown man and immobilize him. Anyway, when Wayne was released from the hospital, he had a plastic bag attached to his side and we could all tell when he had to go to the bathroom... phew!

I have the Ruger and I detest it. I only bought it because it would have been months lead time to buy the S&W 43C. I wish I had bought the LCR 38 instead then it would of at least had a reason for being overweight and poor for concealing. Who needs massive grips for a .22lr snub nose which defeats the purpose of the best concealable package.

    • @jackgreenstalk777
      @jackgreenstalk777 หลายเดือนก่อน

I felt the same way when I tried the LCR. I bought the 43c after researching both. I figured pay a little more for the lighter smaller package since 22 lr recoil is tame even with "hot" rounds like federal punch. I thought maybe I made wrong choice so I was able rent an LCR at a local range, and side by side the 43c shined in nearly every category it was better. Lighter. Smaller, better sight, less sticky grip better to conceal, better fit and finish, it locks up like a bank vault, the ruger rattles if i shake it side to side. To be fair, the ruger shot all its rounds and ejected everything just fine and worked. Id maybe replace the hogue grip for a vz grip that is smaller more in line with j frame grip size. Or even boot grip from crimson trace, and then I'd say the lcr is very much a usable ccw. Both 8 shot, concealed hammer, snubs, with fixed sights, and fairly heavy double action only pull of the trigger. Both safe and reliable. I really prefer s&w trigger to ruger, but some feel the opposite on that, but if I HAD to carry something other then 43c, it would be the LCR 22 lr. Its like 8 or 9 out of 10 steps of the way of being an awesome ccw revolver.

DG unearthed I believe it’s the same idea that cowboys in the Wild West had when carrying more than one gun.
The idea that it’s preferable in a gunfight to just grab another gun rather than spend time reloading.
Seeing as this is a smaller more concealable revolver definitely makes it good as an option 2 when you get disarmed, like you said.
If you are looking for a self defense gun though most recommend a .38 caliber as the minimum amount of stopping power, a .22 will still hurt and is definitely better than nothing but it’s more of a cheap date to the gun range rather than a weapon to trust your life to.

I bit more kick than the 43C.....but perfect for self-defense...."better than a stick!". Indeed - or the 2-ounce pepper spray trinket I can legally carry in the Republic of Kali.

everyone talks tough but no one will volunteer to stand in front of a @@ caliber gun and get shot with it. yes there are stories of people getting many times and getting out of the hospital in a few days. but there are more stories of someone winding up in the morge. for me , the 43C would make a nice summertime pocket gun, or a nice back up to my other snubs ( like my 642). it is also not a bad gun to put in my sweatpants pocket while lounging around the house. neither would the 351C in 22 mag, but knowing me I would get them both. already have the 351PD. and remember , 22s have been used by special forces, the CIA the Massad, and the mob.

I've carried for many years. Mostly large frame autos when I was younger. But as I've aged, my normal carry most days anymore is 2 S&W 642- 38 revolvers. I figure grabbing a fresh revolver is much faster than reloading. And as a final back up, I usually carry a NAA 22 LR mini revolver. I was raised on a small farm in the 70"s. We butchered hogs and beef to put in the several freezers we had. I used 22LR and 22 shorts, fired from rifles mainly to put the animals down. But at times I used various 22 handguns to do the task. I can assure everyone reading this comment, the 22LR and 22shorts had no problem dropping them instantly. The little 22 round is much more deadly than many think.

How come people have a problem with ANY caliber? I am a 45 guy. No one, in their right mind, would ever want to fire a pistol at another human being, but in a situation where someone is trying to kill you or a loved one, I can't imagine a person NOT stopping their attempt at hurting you or said loved one, with a 22 cal revolver going off in their face... at their face. I know that you are suppose to shoot at center of mass, but when carrying a 22 cal, which is all that that person can comfortably carry and shoot..... what the hell difference does it make? I have carried a .22 for years with hot ammo along with others 9mm, 40 cal, 45cal, etc. I like the .22 because it is light and small, easily concealable and has very controllable recoil. Many many people have effectively used a .22 cal over the years in self defense situations and have lived to tell about it. It makes a great defense pistol for females because of the low recoil. The 43C would be a great choice because of the size, white dot front sight and its eight round capacity.

Ejecting the .32 ACP is a little tricky but doable because of the length of the star ejector. I definitely would NOT suggest recoil sensitive shooters even think about shooting the .327 Federal Magnum cartridges. The LCR .327 Federal Magnum would run about the same price as their .22 LR.
