My review: Finally, Ellen and Travis’s story. And what a wonderful story it is. There are many inspirational moments that can strengthen your walk with God, or lead you to Him. Even after ten years, it is not all smooth sailing to their being together. I love that for those ten years, both Ellen and Travis were faithful to each other. This is a book you won’t regret reading. I couldn’t put it down once I started it.

Great story! The auction scene was extremely stressful for me (I had to turn the recording off and take a break a couple of times), but I loved the ending! The only criticism would be that I think the truth (about Chalmer) should be told ASAP!

    A sweet, inspiring read.
Travis and Ellen's story is one of patience, faithfulness and trusting in God's timing. It is a beautiful story that reminds us to look to Jesus, trust Him and let Him guide our ways. The romance that slowly unfolds as these two friends become more, is wonderfully written and keeps you reading for more.

My review: I have been following the lives of Ellen and Travis in earlier books by Jessie Gussman, and I was happy that they finally got their own love story with this book. They met when they were children and became close friends even though Travis was four years older than Ellen. When he turned 18, he moved to another state to learn how to become a businessman with Mr. Ford as his mentor. Travis and Ellen kept in touch. After four years, he returned home only to tell Ellen that he was being sent to Brazil for another four years. They decided to wait until he returned to make any commitment since Ellen was only 18 and still in school. She had her cattle and dog businesses that she was already successful in. I loved this story and I highly recommend this clean Christian romance on how to remain faithful even during adversity. I received an ARC but purchased my own copy. This is my voluntary and honest review. I always love hearing Jay narrate these books as audiobooks.

My personal opinion of this story: I loved reading about these two people while they were in HS and their different stages in life as they grew. I can see myself at 14 being a good friend to Travis even though he was 4 years older. I love the fact that Travis pursued their friendship very carefully and he did not give in fully to his fleshly desires to "the cheerleader" .It demonstrates how we should approach life's decisions. Do we go after the shiney object or what God wants us to do? They were blessed in pursuing patiently eachother. Ellen was blessed with a good dog breed, and nice show cows. What a nice business and perfect for her. I also love they way that the 12 siblings and new characters are being introduced. I can't wait to hear their stories. Heck, I can't wait for any book Jessie puts out. She's such a captivating author and Jay idoes a great job in brings the characters alive and makes it exciting for us to enjoy the story.

So happy Ellen and Travis finally have their story told. Jessie has written another inspirational book. Those of us who have read all of the "Flyboys of Briar Ranch" series have watched these two grow up and fall in love. Travis, being several years older than Ellen, leaves town for work. When he returns ten years later, he is faced with a surprising situation. Ellen steps in and helps. Jay does such a wonderful job with the narration and he even serenades us with a bit of music. Thank you Jessie and Jay for another winning story. If this book is any indication, it seems this new series will be as wonderful as the previous series.

This story was a long time coming. Ellen and Travis have been friends for years. Both in love with each other, but the timing hasn't been right. He's spent most of the time away due to work. Now that he's coming back for good can they move beyond friendship? However, just when he gets back they're thrown for another loop with him becoming an instant dad. Who's the biological parents? Why was he chosen? Will she trust him? I loved this story and laughed out loud several times. I can't wait to read Alaska's story and see what happens with Chalmer. Listening to it on here made it even better .
I received a copy of this book from the author. Review voluntarily given.

For what it's worth, I did try to put some thought into how much of a brogue she should have; she was born in Ireland but spent most of her childhood in North Dakota - so hers was much lighter than her Uncle Tadgh's, who came to Sweet Water as an adult. To get pieces of these two as they grow up(from their perspectives), check out the series “Flyboys of Briar Ranch” first.
I have been waiting for these two to get their matchup for a long time. I did not know what to expect for this book and it blew me out of the water. Gussman included some things that she generally doesn’t with touches of suspense and Wow. My heart was in my throat for a good third of the book at least. We met one character that I felt very unChristian towards and I bet Gussman will confront me with that issue later on in the series. It was a lovely start to a new series while bringing back characters we’ve been with since the beginning.

I love all of Jessie Gussman's books. Unlike some "Christian" romances, these provide Bible references and life lessons.
Unfortunately, I found a discrepancy about Ellen's parents.
    From Cowboy Marrying the Lady:
(Tadgh, page 96:) “I had a twin brother. Todd. We did everything together. Except… He fell in love with a woman,…
Anyway, he got married, they had Ellen, and they were in a car crash, and both of them died.”
    From A Cowboy’s Forever Faithful:
(page 45) Uncle Tadgh had raised her (Ellen) after his sister, her mother, had passed away.
Writing a series is harder than it looks, and I'm sure it's not easy to remember all of the details. I thank God for Ms. Jessie, for her dedication to writing.
And I thank God for you, sir, for providing wonderful character voices. I recently listened to a different author's book with Virtual Voice, and it was awful. Keep up the good work.

I really enjoyed this. I do have one little thing though. I know that series books lead into the next book, I get that and it helps me to look forward to what is to come. However, it took away from the existing story for me. It felt a little bit like there should have been more emphasis on Ellen and Travis and a bit on Alaska. It felt a little bit like their story, towards the end, took back seat to setting up Alaska's story and it made me feel like Ellen and Travis get short changed on the rest of their story. It's not a massive thing, but it did take away from my enjoyment of it, just a bit.xx

Is it not true? John Adams also traveled representing the US internationally starting at 14 and in most places we don't let 14 year olds hold any job never mind one with international significance... not saying I want my kids to marry at 13 or 14 but just saying these were historic facts.

It is history.... That doesn't make it right tho.
I have an aunt who was 14 when she got married.... One of my great grandma's was 13 or 14 when she got married.... It still doesn't make it right.

Hmm... well you didn't address my point that "kids" that age and younger worked and not just grunt work. Maybe you could share why you think it's wrong besides just your opinion. What age becomes "right"? 15? 16? 17? 25? Why is that ago ok and not before? My friend's daughter got married at 17 two years ago. That's super young if you ask me but I'd say she has a better marriage than multiple couples who I know that married in the 22-26 range. I don't think there is a right/wrong age if a person is biologically an adult able to reproduce and able to provide for themselves and mature and marriying a person of like age (not a 27 year old marrying a 15 year old or something like that). For some that's not even at 30 and for others it could possibly be 14 as much as it seems strange in our culture. But the truth is a LOT of 14-16 year olds not raised in God fearing homes are sexually active just not in a way God condones. I'm somewhat playing devils advocate because I don't know a 14 year old I'd be Gung ho about seeing get married but I wouldn't say it's "wrong".

Not my favourite of all I have listened to so far. You lost me when Ellen didnt stand up to the bully who spilt the lunch bucket of her little sister. I dont mean revenge or violence, but it made her feel like a weak character. Jesus didnt say dont be angry, just dont sin. I gave up listening after that. Also the moralisiing from Travis about addiction when the puppies are being born seemed out of place and jarred. A valid point but not at a good place in the story. He seemed to be a mouthpiece for an opinion. I lkied the first couple of series, but feel the writing has become a bit formulaic. If this seems negative its because I enjoyed the other series so much and feel a little disappointed.

Thanks so much for your thoughts, Angie. I'm so glad you've enjoyed other books, and I'm sorry this one didn't resonate with you. I love seeing people respond to unkindness with kindness and compassion, the way Jesus did. I suppose we disagree in that I feel that shows a true strength of character, rather than weakness, and it definitely makes us different from the world. Hopefully we can disagree and still be friends. : )

@JessieGussmanauthor Hi Jessie wow thanks for responding. I didn't expect that. No doubt, we could go on debating, but I'm more than happy to agree to disagree and remain friends. ❤️
