    8:38 "become accustomed to allowing the mind to sink into the heart over and over and over again, until the minds natural place to rest is not on an object, but in its source, the heart."

      "The mind of a Buddha never moves from the fundamental nature, while a sentient being's mind is in movement." - Padmasambhava. "Manjusri asked, World-honored one, what is the state of the unconditioned? Buddha said, The absence of thought is the state of the unconditioned." - The state of buddhahood sutra. That is not to say it is not present during thought and only appears in their absence. Awareness is the very essence and is present always, it's just that the direct experience of awareness is more apparent in the absence of thought movement in the same way that the sun is more visible in the gaps between clouds or their absence, although it is always shining. Another helpful bit is how the clouds don't carry the space of the sky off with them as they pass, the wind and clouds may move, but the space in which they move is still and silent.

    I now realise that as a child i was most of the time “living in awareness” without realising. I somehow lost it on the way by focussing on my problems all the time. Can anyone relate?

      In childhood everybody lives in that awareness and when the ego takes shape in pre adolescence the thinking process begins... that's when we want to taste the fruit of knowledge and get out of garden of Eden... and now finding our way back slowly to the eternal consciousness to where we belong..

    • @zisananter731

    • @satpurush2592
      @satpurush2592 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think that is the case with everyone of us... when we were children there was no strong individuality or ego.... in pre adolescence the ego takes shape and the thinking mechanism starts functioning in a negative way... children don't think... neither positive nor negative..!

    Wavv...!!!!.Thank u Rupert for providing a 21st century edition of "Who am I" .....i.e...
    "Am I aware".....we need a "realised" as well as "Intelligent" persons like u to revise the editions and help the mankind....
    Bcz "Intelligence" is related to a person and not the "Presence" or "Awareness" and most of the "Realised" beings are not "Intelligent" enough to convey their msg to the world. They always used the old tools which are no more working right now or difficult in this timezone.....
    Thank u Rupert...

    Am I aware? The mind circles and ends...mind formulates question and answer. Experience of timelessness. As simple as that..!! Pose the question when as we can. Experience the Now, eternity anytime. Form a habit of asking the question.. Being aware of being aware...stay there. Habit..!! Go to Knowing of being Aware..! Go through doorway: Am I aware? Touch the flame..! So accessible..! Doorway is wide open..! Am I aware! is direct and clear.. Appreciate being Home..! Wonderful crucial teachings, Rupert..

    .... so much more then a lovely apartment to me it seems the end of a life long search or even the meaning of life: finding HOME in youself and beeing there in Peace, Joy or Happiness and Love!! Now feeling this after so many years the sensation to me is quite similar of beeing a sleep and to be a sleep at peace can be perceived, at least by me, as to rest in peace or death and that again to be back HOME!! Just like the French are calling an orgasm: la petite mort. very close as well: absolute awareness, no thoughts, Home at Peace, Happy and in Love... Wonderfull!! Consciouness never dies!! Peace&Love ❤

    His practice of asking the question am I aware has been very very powerful and helpful. I have felt hugely connected to people and especially nature for the last few days . It's kind of been overwhelming at times but also very interesting and exciting aswell. I have felt very alert and kind of lost at the same time, it feels like I'm kind of letting go of my identity and finding it hard to talk to people cause I feel I'm gonna blow up with this energy. It's very new and a little scary and I wondered if you just settle into it. The main thing is I'm not feeling that heart warmth and love that I have with other practices and I wondered if you anyone had something they could say? Thank you

      It's not always necessary to experience heart warmth (even though it's human to want that feeling). Step 3 of a 12-Step program requires that you experience yourself completely as energy like a "hole in the donut" and I've found this to be a major relief for years.

    When I ask "Am I Aware?" Instantly, it seems, there is a more or less strong thrust from the base of the spine upwards, often acommpanied by a tightening of the transverse abdominal muscle. What is the explanation for this?

    Since I last posted I've noticed that if I ask the question am I aware ? It takes me straight to the experience of awareness which feels naked, new, connective and a little scary without actually having to answer the question. Whereas if I ask the same question and answer yes when I recognise awareness then I feel such a warm complete kind of love in my heart and it feels like I'm totally home. I find it interesting how contrasting these two experiences are although very similar in practice. Rupert invites us to ask the question before going to sleep but says it not necessary to answer it this time. How come ?
    Thanks very much

      No need to say "I am aware "' which negates the very purpose by.activating the mind. The idea of making the mind to ask the question is to allow the mind to kill itsel with the slow poison of silence. What Mr Spira means by silence the answer is there. in order to keep the silence (awareness) to continue, repeat the query at frequent intervals gradually extended until such time Awareness just becomes a natural habit with the mind getting dissolved what Maharshi Ramana called 'Mano nasha' (elimination of the mind) to get drowned in the ocean of Consciousness.Just as the milk(mind) boils & starts oozing out of the vessel until the last drop.

    Can you use this words "am I aware" when exploring for example the anger or shame?
    Am I angry? What would happen inside me and with the mind?
    Thank you for helping me answering my question?

    • @JannikBoRasmussen
      @JannikBoRasmussen 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could use the question "Am I aware" also when experiencing for example anger. However asking the question would then - hopefully - direct your attention towards the awareness itself, rather than the anger.
      I suspect, though, that the energy intensity of a strong emotion like anger would be so inviting that you would rather stay with that instead of exploring the awareness.

    Okay. So I have a question. I have been experiencing this for past few days. I see thoughts arising and disappearing. And as I witness it, I come to the present moment. And that feeling, of being home and peace. I experience that. But in that experience, as you say that there is no mind, so how did I experience bliss and peace then. In order for me to say that I was home and I loved it, I needed to use the mind, right?
